Agenda:

Our first-Wed September date falls on the same date (Sep 2) on which one of our 3 congressmembers, Anna Eshoo (CD14), is having a healthcare forum (town hall). The team decided to go there and show support, since she's firm on the public option.

Note: No signs allowed inside the hall. Staff will be checking that only constituents get in. There's no provision for people outside the hall to hear the proceedings; no loudspeakers.

The doors open at 6, some of us will be lining up before that, probably. Meeting starts at 7pm & is scheduled to end at 8:30. Club members will probably gather at a member's nearby home afterward to share impressions & ideas.

If you attend this, please note: we're not there to argue with teabaggers and others who insist on being ignorant of the facts about healthcare and the House bill. We're there to show support of the public option. Nothing is gained by arguing with ideologues. Lakoff says: "attacking our opponents' frame reinforces their message...Our job is to frame our own values, vision, and mission, and to avoid attacking theirs because if we do, it only keeps their ideas in the forefront." Framing our own side takes time and repeated exposure, so--best to ignore these people no matter how provocative they may try to be.

----------------------------------------------------

We realize that our membership includes not only CD14 (Eshoo) but also CD15 (Honda) and CD16 (Lofgren). Again, there's no provision for people outside Spangenberg to hear the proceedings; no loudspeakers.

However, there are other ways to make your support of the public option known to our legislators:

There's a Sendoff Rally for Sens Feinstein & Boxer the same night, Wed Sep 2, from 5pm to 7pm, on the San Francisco City Hall steps. THIS IS AN ORGANIZING for AMERICA (OfA) event (OfA is part of the DNC). Wear your Obama shirt. You can take public transportation:
