Who am I?

I am an actor, director, activist, Democratic party fundraiser, and the founder and former executive director of GOV360. I have worked on Democratic campaigns since 1989. I am a union member. I have a Master's degree in Social Entrepreneurship and Change from the Graduate School of Education at Pepperdine University. I believe in the core values of peace, justice, freedom, equality, and fairness, and I think politics should be about ideas and solutions. I am a concerned native Virginian with the educational background and political experience for the job.

Why am I running?

The very foundation of our Democracy is crumbling under the weight of special interests who favor money and power over the best interests of the people. Too many of our friends, family and neighbors are slipping through the cracks.

Low turnout in the 2010 midterm helped usher in Robert Hurt, but 2014 is a new year. Robert Hurt is wrong for Virginia, he has consistently voted to limit the rights and freedoms of women, he has worked against the diverse interests of our citizens, and he has supported the limited special interests that helped him get elected to congress.

I believe I could reach many of the non-voters in the 5th district and bring them into a broad coalition with independents, republicans, and democrats. We all know that Washington is broken. We cannot expect the career politicians to fix the problems that they helped to create.

It is time to renew people's trust and faith in their own government and revitalize the American dream.

My Goals

I will represent the best interest of the majority of people:

I will fight against the growing problem of income inequality.

I will put women, children, veterans, and the elderly first.

I will find ways to make sure that more people participate in the democratic process.

My DFA Values

Peace, Justice, Freedom, Equality, and Fairness. These are the core values of the Democratic party and of Americans in general. We will place importance on communities, because we will be working on the grassroots level. Liberty and security are values that are embedded in our constitution, and my campaign will promote these values by proposing a living wage, supporting organized labor, closing corporate tax loopholes, ensuring sensible environmental protections, and protecting the right to affordable healthcare.

My Campaign is People Powered!

We will engage people by running a progressive campaign and by sticking to our values and not running back toward the center. We have been working with Dr. Ferguson Reid to help us reach the progressive community. I have received the Triple Crown national endorsement from PDA as well as an endorsement and finance lists from DAPAC.

We are running a precinct level neighborhood team model. We are recruiting and training representatives for each precinct. This strategy is not only to win in November but also to strengthen the progressive movement in this district. These semi-autonomous teams will be responsible for disseminating the campaign message via direct voter contact. Our path to victory depends on our ability to be data driven but still people focused.

About the Endorsement Process

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our members. We recognize that all politics is local and that what is considered progressive in Los Angeles may be very different from what's considered progressive in Louisville. For this reason, DFA does not have a litmus test of specific progressive positions for which a candidate must stand. Our endorsement is heavily weighted based on these questions:

• Will the candidate move the progressive movement forward in their community?
• Does the candidate have substantial support from our local members?
• Do the candidate's positions and policies fit into the broader progressive movement?
• Is the campaign people-powered and the candidate working to win?

If you have questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
