Who am I?

I am a licensed Social Worker and a Tax preparer. I lived on a farm for most of my adult life and with my husband raised our two daughter and 12 foster children. We were involved in raising and showing both dogs and horses.
Since my retirement I have begun being involved in the political process. I had always signed online petitions and donated to political campaign but I now had time to be involved with a political party and see what I could do to try to make a difference in the world in which we live.

Why am I running?

I am running because the voters of TN District 25 needed to have a candidate who would represent them and not the ideas and values of the Republican Party. They needed a candidate whose values would reflect their's, who understood the problems which faced them and who was not committed to guns and hate for those who didn't look like them.

My Goals

Healthcare for All. I have written letters to the editors encouraging voters to contact their elected officials to get them to Expand Medicaid (TennCare).
Raise the Minimum Wage. Rally in front of Representative Black's office.
Protect a Woman's Right to Choose and her Right to Equal Pay for Equal Work.

Except for being the treasurer of the Cumberland County Democratic Party, I have never held political office. I am no diplomat but do understand the idea of working with others to achieve a desired goal.

My DFA Values

I believe that it is only through community and our coming together that we can possibly change the direction that this country is going. There are many issues at the federal as well as the state level which have damaged the character of this country, I am hoping to work toward making a more fair and equal society where the 1% are not the sole beneficiaries of the largesse of government.
People need to be free to enjoy the values of this republic without hurting the rest of us or taking advantage of the Commons. The federal government has gotten out of control regarding our right to privacy, spying on individuals who have done nothing wrong, this is not acceptable.

My Campaign is People Powered!

I have no big money benefactors. My friends and supporters here in Tennessee and my family will be all the financial support which I have for this campaign. We will not be spending a lot of money, will be making a lot of phone calls hoping to engage people in getting out to vote and changing the status quo.

About the Endorsement Process

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our members. We recognize that all politics is local and that what is considered progressive in Los Angeles may be very different from what's considered progressive in Louisville. For this reason, DFA does not have a litmus test of specific progressive positions for which a candidate must stand. Our endorsement is heavily weighted based on these questions:

• Will the candidate move the progressive movement forward in their community?
• Does the candidate have substantial support from our local members?
• Do the candidate's positions and policies fit into the broader progressive movement?
• Is the campaign people-powered and the candidate working to win?

If you have questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
