Linda 4 Legislature

Background:

After 40 years of activism, I have been given the opportunity to run for elected office.

I have been a member of Democracy for the Hudson Mohawk region for about five years and volunteered on the campaigns of Wes Clark, Howard Dean, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Kirstin Gillibrand and Scott Murphy.

Goals:

I am running for a seat on the Rensselaer County, NY legislature to break the strangle-hold the Republicans have on this body and get something done for the people.

Under one party rule, our property taxes have sky-rocketed 110%, the Republican incumbents voted themselves a 33% pay raise and filled county departments with their cronies.

With your help I can make a difference.

Issues:

Transparency, accountability and fiscal restraint.

The Republican majority gave itself a 33% raise in the dead of night right after the last election.

They have put a gag order on the Democratic minority and have prohibited them from working with department heads to help their constituents.

They have padded the employment rolls with their cronies who make far more than they should for the work they do.

Grassroots Support:

I hope the grassroots will play a big role in my campaign. I have been part of it and see the power it has and very much hope I can tap into that to help both my fund-raising goals and boots to the ground volunteers.

DFA Values:

My "big picture" beliefs include single payer or public option for health care, equal rights for all including abolishing Don't Ask Don't Tell and the Defense of Marriage Act while working for marriage equity at the state level.

My views on fiscal responsibility include pay-go, on a local level, I am for the prudent use of local resources by consolidating municipal services and reviewing the pay and work product of all politically appointed municipal employees.
