Who am I?

I am the Democrat who can beat the 1-term incumbent, Andy Barr (R) and turn this district blue again. I have 35 years of experience in the political arena, working on issues such as energy policy, foreign policy, protecting the environment, defending working people against economic attack, defending reproductive rights, and cutting waste in the federal budget. I know how the system works. I have a highly developed BS detector, and I can see through all of the Republicans' tricks and deceptive rhetoric. I pinpointed why Barr's two major legislative initiatives are fake and why they don't solve the problems they claim to solve or actually make them worse.

My professional training is in economics (MIT) and mechanical engineering. I worked on energy policy in Frankfort for 13 years.

Why am I running?

I will work for a comprehensive alternative to the Paul Ryan-Andy Barr federal budget. Barr's budget would increase the federal taxes on a typical Kentucky family by $7,000 a year, in order to siphon even more money upward to the super-rich. I don't know a single family that wants to pay more taxes so the super-rich can get even richer.

I will work to demilitarize our foreign policy and work with other countries in a less aggressive way. If I had been in Congress in 2003, I would have demanded the impeachment of Bush and Cheney for illegally invading Iraq under a smokescreen of lies. I vigorously opposed President Obama's proposal to bomb Syria last year. If we keep trying to dominate the world militarily, America will go bankrupt, and it might happen in just a few more years.

My Goals

1. Drive the Paul Ryan-Andy Barr federal budget off the table and into the paper shredder using sound economic analysis, ridicule, and contempt. Its priorities are highly immoral.

2. Pull a major fraction of our troops and weaponry back to defend this country, which is the proper Constitutional function of our armed forces.

3. Reduce the vast amount of waste in the military and intelligence budgets, freeing up funds to invest in education, infrastructure, renewable energy, and scientific research.

My DFA Values

I believe in cooperation and have supported co-ops all my adult life. Conflict in Washington, however, arises when one major party stops trying to govern and simply grabs for as much power and money as it can get. Our senior Senator, Mitch McConnell, has devoted his entire career to putting "for sale" signs over senators and representatives. The result has been the worst Congress money can buy. Rep. Andy Barr is a clear example of what we get when big money rules.
America's security would actually improve with a smaller military-industrial complex that wasn't constantly looking for more countries in which to intervene.
I will cosponsor legislation to stop the NSA from spying on all Americans who use the phone or internet. Barr voted against the Conyers-Amash-Massie bill to rein in the NSA.

My Campaign is People Powered!

I have participated in whatever panels and issue-focused forums have been scheduled. I feel voters should be as well-informed as possible about the candidates who are asking for their support and votes.
I plan to invite the voters of the 6th District to identify examples of Barr's deceptive political rhetoric and share them with my campaign. If the voters can spot the false assumptions and bad logic behind his pronouncements, I will help publicize what they discover. This should raise the level of the discussion above the mudslinging that Barr has used habitually in his campaigns for Congress in 2010 and 2012.

About the Endorsement Process

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our members. We recognize that all politics is local and that what is considered progressive in Los Angeles may be very different from what's considered progressive in Louisville. For this reason, DFA does not have a litmus test of specific progressive positions for which a candidate must stand. Our endorsement is heavily weighted based on these questions:

• Will the candidate move the progressive movement forward in their community?
• Does the candidate have substantial support from our local members?
• Do the candidate's positions and policies fit into the broader progressive movement?
• Is the campaign people-powered and the candidate working to win?
