Name: Jane Dyer for Congress
Office: SC03
Website: janedyerforcongress.com

Background:

Having grown up and attended public schools in my district, I am well aware of the needs of the hard working people in my district.

The opportunities afforded me at Clemson University, being the first female to be selected for an Air Force pilot training slot, must be continued to be offered to all of the great young people in our district.

After serving for seven years as an Air Force pilot, I returned to my home town and have been an airline pilot for over 20 years.

Married to a highly decorated Vietnam pilot, we have four children and three grandchildren.

As a working mother, I volunteered to coach youth sports teams, lead numerous children programs at church, helped with school functions and served as a deacon at my church.

My family, hard work, and service to my country, my church, and my community are the foundations of my commitment to make SC and the US a more perfect union in the midst of these trying times.

Goals:

Times have never been tougher in my lifetime People are losing their jobs, their homes and their hope. Struggling to pay bills today leaves little hope for saving for tomorrow. It is time for new leadership in South Carolina.

My experiences as an airline pilot, veteran, and mother give me the insight and commitment to serve the great people of my district.

Now is the time to make hard working Americans the impetus for American success.

My major goal will be to put workers first. A strong middle class is the key to good jobs and good education.

Secondly, cooperation in government is imperative. We must get to the point that we are doing what is best for America and not what is best for political careers.

As a US Congressman, I want to ensure policies that promote a strong economy that benefits all Americans and ensures our strengths as a nation for generations to come.

Issues:

South Carolina is suffering from record unemployment and huge budget shortfalls that are gutting our educational system.

The vicious cycle of job loss and deteriorating education must be broken for the survival of businesses and hence the success of the working class.

Job creation will be number one. Creating infrastructure jobs, developing green technologies, commitments to improved transportation, and providing quality education and health care to the folks in our district are the ways out of this dismal abyss.

Education cannot be allowed to suffer anymore in South Carolina. The ill-fated policies of the nation and especially our state have lead to poor educational standing for our state. New ideas, belief in the public school system, and a commitment to making college affordable will be mandatory for the success of the young people of South Carolina.

The men and women who serve and have served in our military deserve to be honored for their service. The wounded should get the best of health care and rehabilitation, retirees need unencumbered benefits, and of course our combat troops need the equipment to fight the battles they are assigned.

My main concerns will be to fight for good jobs, lift up the education system of our state, and fulfill the needs of the armed services from the battle fields to the needs of our Veterans.

Grassroots Support:

Having attended the DFA training in Charleston, SC at the beginning of my race in 2008 was instrumental in understanding the requirements for a successful campaign.

Running against a popular incumbent in a traditionally red district was very enlightening. We got into the race very late and had little to no experience pool to draw from. We worked hard but were late and did not have the resources to be successful.

This time, the incumbent is running for governor, so it is an open seat. We have the experience of running before. We are already putting into place the ingredients of a winning team.

Nowhere will the importance of a grassroots system be as important as in the race for SC-03. The ability to reach and effectively convince the people of our district will depend on the coordination, commitment and hard work of the many volunteers who will make this a winning race.

DFA Values:

My experiences as an airline pilot and a veteran may lead one to think that I was the ultimate conservative. These experiences as one of the first females gave me a very different perspective.

Every person deserves to be treated fairly, regardless of gender, race or any other factor. It is governments responsibility, through legislation and the judiciary process, to make sure that we do have "justice for all" and that all have the opportunity for "the pursuit of happiness". This is the America that I believe will make us stronger, better, and more united to face the trials of today and the tests of tomorrow.

Great ideas for a better tomorrow are faced with the reality of the costs to the taxpayer. The tragedy of the fiscal policies of the past era have left us in a terrible predicament. Obviously tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and a corporate America allowed to run rampant with no oversight or regulations has been a disaster. At the same time spending money that we do not have on two wars and in support of these disastrous financial goals have left us in a crisis.

First, we have to find a way to get people back to work. This is going to costs a great deal since we are already over $10 trillion in debt. But investments to get people back to work is a necessity.

Once, the economy is stabilized, we have tough decisions to make. A strong economy will be required to support the concepts of good education, affordable health care, supporting our military and veterans, and bringing us into the 21st century in terms of a green economy.

A strong economy, based on a healthy working middle class, will allow us to finally start paying our debts and creating a positive future for our children and grandchildren.

The current crisis has opened the eyes of many Americans that we can do without a lot of things we thought were necessities. We were living in excess as a country and as individuals.

The problems appear at times to be almost insurmountable. I believe that if we work together we can put people to work, improve education, and support our military. At the same time we must make the tough decisions to get our economy back on track and addressing our national debt. We can not only survive, we can succeed at fulfilling the future dreams of all Americans.
