David S. Broder of the Washington Post comments on women leading the message of the Democratic Party during the national convention in Denver.
Michelle Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton, slated as the featured speakers on the first two nights of the national convention, delivered a pair of speeches that came as close to fulfilling the hopes of the nominees and the party leaders as anyone could have imagined.
'They raised the bar for what the voters can expect from Joe Biden and Barack Obama, and signaled to John McCain that the level of professionalism on their side is so high that Republicans will have to stretch to match it.For those who like to look past the immediate partisan stakes, the message of Monday and Tuesday night is heartening. Never before has a national party entrusted to women the principal burden of setting the tone for the coming campaign by their domination of the first half of a convention. And rarely, if ever, have the expectations of the convention managers been so well fulfilled.'[...]Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton are two impressive women -- and there are a lot more like them.
“Women have always made the difference in every election, and this year, your voice, your hope will be the deciding factors in forging a new future for America.” ~ Barack Obama (Launch of California Women for Obama September 7, 2007)

Subject: The change women need
Women voters have a chance to make the crucial difference in this year's election. On issue after issue, the choice is clear.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden have fought for Equal Pay for Equal Work, comprehensive health care, expansion of child care and family leave, and a woman's right to choose.
John McCain and Sarah Palin have actively worked and voted against these important issues. This year's Republican platform is so extreme it proposes a constitutional amendment banning abortion -- regardless of rape, incest, or the mother's health. It also makes absolutely no mention of Equal Pay for Equal Work.
It's time for us to get organized, reach out to other voters, and elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
There are less than eight weeks until Election Day. Sign up today and get started on bringing the change we need.
Instead of an agenda to help the American people, John McCain is offering the same old Republican politics of divisiveness and distortion. It's a desperate attempt to distract voters from eight years of failed Bush-Cheney policies -- policies that John McCain voted for 90 percent of the time.
We can't afford a third Bush term. We need your help right now to help elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Sign up today:

There is a lot to do in the next eight weeks to bring the change we need.
We are counting on you!
Warm regards,
Lottie Shackelford, DNC Vice Chair of Voter Registration & Participation
Linda Chavez-Thompson, DNC Vice Chair
Susan W. Turnbull, DNC Vice Chair
Alice Germond, DNC Secretary
Mame Reiley, Chair, DNC Women's Caucus
Bel Leong Hong, Chair, DNC Asian American Pacific Islander Caucus
Ramona Martinez, Chair, DNC Hispanic Caucus
Virgie Rollins, Chair, DNC African American Caucus
P.S. -- Check out this document that highlights how Barack Obama and Joe Biden stack up side-by-side with John McCain and Sarah Palin on women's issues:
