Tristin Mock for Congress
| Name: | Tristin Mock for Congress |
| Office: | OR-2 |
| Website: | votemock.com |
Background:
Tristin Mock is the youngest of a large family and was raised in The Dalles. She earned a BA in history with concentrations in biology and international studies, before pursuing a certificate in gerontology. Most recently she earned a degree as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine.
Tristin was highly active in her community even in her early years. She worked with many organizations including the county animal shelter, Special Olympics, 4-H, and FFA. It was during her time at The Dalles High School when Tristin's leadership skills began to develop. She was able to meet with her congressional representatives while attending the FFA's Washington Leadership Conference. This was the first of many trips that Tristin has made to the nation's capital to speak with her representatives about issues that are of great importance.
Tristin cares deeply about people. She was an active member of her Neighborhood Emergency Team while living in Portland. She spent the majority of her time as a naturopathic intern in low cost and free clinics. Her training in gerontology makes her especially sensitive to the difficulties that people face as they age. The raiding of Social Security funds to pay for the invasion of Iraq is extremely disturbing to her.
Dr Tristin Mock lives with daughter in La Grande, Oregon. She has recently opened a naturopathic medical clinic in La Grande.
Goals:
Tristin's campaign will bring attention to the true cost of the Iraq invasion. By funding this war we have stripped the US of many valuable resources. We have thrown fiscal responsibility out the window. We should refocus our energies and solving the environmental and healthcare crises. The US is one of the global losers when it comes to these issues. Tristin will work to have the US take a leadership role in these fields.
Issues:
Peace
Supporting our troops does not mean sending them on a suicide mission, and abandoning them if/when they return. We should be providing them with appropriate support when they return to the US. Care of the body, mind, and spirit are essential. Veterans should be fed, sheltered, and healed.
The occupation of Iraq needs to be ended immediately. There are several plans, including the McGovern Plan and "a responsible plan" that have already been developed that address how to successfully end our invasion of Iraq.
Universal Healthcare
Everyone deserves access to healthcare. Ongoing wellness care can help prevents illnesses, costing everyone less money. It is deplorable that a 20 year old type I diabetic could be denied access to life saving insulin because its too expensive. It is morally repugnant to send home widowed seniors hours after surgery for a fracture because they don't have insurance. The current healthcare system is leaving doctors with no time to see patients; and patients are receiving suboptimal care.
Election Reform
We must return electoral power to the people. Modern politics has evolved to the point where corporations and PACs buy candidates, by donating huge sums of money to the chosen campaigns. The American people can no longer be sure if their representatives will represent the people, corporations, or special interests. Tristin will not accept money from businesses or PACs.
Tristin supports public financing of elections. Public financing keeps power in the hands of the people. Public financing is extremely important for incumbents. Elected officials should spend their time leading our nation, not trying to raise money for re-election.
Grassroots Support:
Tristin is running an entirely grassroots campaign. Democracy is supposed to represent the people, not rich corporations and special interest groups. Dr Mock's campaign is entirely volunteer run. In maintaining her belief in keeping power with the people, Tristin only accept financial contributions from individuals- not businesses or PACs.
DFA Values:
Tristin will refocus the US on meeting its responsibilities to care for its people. Shifting our focus away from offensive strikes will allow the federal budget to become more balanced. Our government can return to being a model of fiscal responsibility, while caring for its citizens.
