Steve Sarvi for US Representative
| Name: | Steve Sarvi for US Representative |
| Office: | MN-02 |
| Website: | stevesarvi.org |
Background:
19 years in military; served in Kosovo with peacekeeping mission and in Iraq with MN National Guard unit that served there longer than any other Guard unit. Earned Bronze Star Medal. Elected 3 times mayor of Watertown in Carver County. Current Victoria city administrator. Married 19 years to Barb who helps teach special ed in Watertown-Mayer school district. Three children, 9, 13, 16, who keep me very focused on the future.
Goals:
I'm running to change our nation's course. I believe the United States has been taken down the wrong path at home and abroad by President Bush and my opponent, Congressman John Kline, whose voting record supports the President more than 90% of the time.
Issues:
Changing course in our foreign policy (including our occupation of Iraq), in health care, in transportation and infrastructure, and public education (I know, that's 4).
Grassroots Support:
It will be the cornerstone of our campaign. I come to this race with a unique background and perspective on the issues we face, not a gold rolodex or a lifetime in politics. We have already begun to put together a diffuse volunteer organization to prepare for the endorsement, even though I have no DFL challenge.
DFA Values:
When I was mayor of Watertown, I declined to raise the tax rate and was creative with making the most of what we had. For example, I persuaded a developer to donate land for a new elementary school in our community. I don't mind spending money where needed, but I hate to waste it. On social issues, I believe we need to be consistent with our founders' faith in limited government and protection of individual rights.
