Thomas Allen for U.S. Senate
| Name: | Thomas Allen for U.S. Senate |
| Office: | U.S. House of Representatives |
| Website: | tomallen.org |
Background:
I was born and raised in Maine. I attended public in Portland and went on to attend Bowdoin College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar and Harvard law school. I served on the Portland City Council and as Mayor before being elected to the United States House of Representatives from the First District of Maine in 1996.
Goals:
I feel that there is a lot at stake in the upcoming election. We need to end our involvement in the Iraq war, we need to provide health care for every American and we must address the growing threat of climate change and our country's energy crisis. I also strongly believe that we need a working majority in the United States Senate to accomplish these and many other progressive goals in order to order to move our country forward.
Issues:
Ending the war in Iraq, providing health care for all, and addressing climate change and our national energy policy.
Grassroots Support:
Grassroots will be incredibly vital to our victory. We are currently building a state-wide precinct captain organization that will be capable of delivering neighbor to neighbor voter communication from now through 2008.
DFA Values:
As Mayor of Portland, I successfully fought to prohibit discrimination in housing and employment on the basis of sexual orientation. As a member of Congress, I have consistently supported a woman's right to choose. I have fought to lower the price of prescription drugs and supported cleaner energy policies. At the same time I strongly opposed the President's irresponsible tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and fought to restore pay-as-you-go rules to Congress.
