Molchany for State Representative

Who am I?

I am so proud to be part of my community.

I wake up every day determined to make my home better, safer, and more prosperous. I've done this for my whole career and will bring the same high level of commitment to a life in the public sector.

I came to Pittsburgh for school, fell in love with the city, and never left. I worked my way through college, and for the past 15 years have worked tirelessly in the non-profit sector.

I have worked for the American Red Cross, advocated for women's health at Planned Parenthood, and directed leadership trainings at the Coro Center for Public Leadership. In 2006, I was elected Vice President of the Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation where I advocated for economic development and a thriving business district.

For the past 6 years, I've worked to retain young people by connecting them to our community and encouraging them to stay and invest in Pittsburgh's growth and success. As Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP), I understand the commitment it takes to make Pittsburgh stronger and more vibrant.

I've worked with non-profits and community groups to improve the quality of life for our friends and neighbors. I understand that a partnership between good government and our neighborhoods will bring creative solutions home. I have fought to give people a voice in government, so decisions it makes help everyone.

Why am I running?

Governor Tom Corbett and legislators in Harrisburg have been distracted. Their attention has focused on naming the Bible the book of the year, on restrictive and undemocratic Voter ID laws, and attacking women through requiring unnecessary mandatory ultrasounds.

Harrisburg has been more concerned with distractions than with the legitimate everyday concerns of the people they represent.

I am running because all my life I have been committed to my community, and my community needs its voice to be heard in the state capital. We need an advocate to save public transportation in our region, which will be cut by 1/3 if funding is not allocated by September. We need a fighter to stop cuts to education, to public safety services, and to community organizations that make our neighborhoods great places to live.

I'm running because we need to restore trust and integrity back to Harrisburg. We need a community leader, not another career politician.

My Goals

Once elected, my two top priorities will be to save our regions public transportation system and to stop unnecessary cuts to education.

For too long Harrisburg has unfairly passed the buck onto local municipalities to fund public transportation systems that economically benefit our state and make Pittsburgh a world class city. As an elected official, I will fight to have a statewide conversation about transit. We need a comprehensive solution. We need a sustainable funding sources for all statewide transportation infrastructure that includes roads, bridges, highways and mass transits systems. And I pledge to make sure that public transportation remains in the public trust, as a statewide asset we all own.

Economically, the greatest rate of return we will always get is from investing in education. This truth must be understood and reprehensible cuts to education must stop so that we can invest in our children again. Building highways and fixing bridges is always secondary to investing in the education that makes those projects possible. We must give every child an opportunity to succeed through a public education. We must protect local school board's right to make independent financial decisions in the best interest of the students. And we must make certain that where you live is never a barrier to a child learning.

My DFA Values

My Campaign is People Powered!

I believe it is the responsibility of anyone running for office to interact, get involved, and intimately understand the concerns of the communities that he or she could come to represent. Because of that, I have attended every block watch, community meeting, neighborhood association, and local chamber of commerce event in the district. I have introduced myself and offered an open ear.

I have knocked on thousands of doors in my district and intend to knock many more before Election Day. Getting to know the one way streets, random green spaces, and talking with voters has been the most invigorating part of this campaign. Everyday I hear stories on the door that remind me again why I am running to represent this district. It renews a personal promise to work tirelessly for these neighborhoods I know so well.

In the final weeks of my campaign, volunteers will be making phone calls and knocking on doors to talk to voters about their stories and why they're volunteering on my campaign. This race is less about me than it is our community. I want the people of my district to feel apart of what we're building.

Because together, with dedication and commitment, vision and patience, we can do so much.

About the Endorsement Process

All campaigns seeking a DFA endorsement are first required to complete the endorsement application in order to be considered. Members of the DFA Political team will review applications after submission and make endorsement decisions on a rolling basis throughout the applicable election cycle.

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our membership. We gauge DFA member support in a number of different ways. For starters, supporters can publicly show their support on any candidate’s application page. We also utilize endorsement decisions of local DFA groups as a measure of local community support. Finally, if you know a candidate deserving of a DFA endorsement who hasn’t yet applied, we want to hear about them! Please visit the Endorsement FAQ page for answers to frequently asked questions about our endorsement process.

If you still have any questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
