Donna Bebo for Congress

Who am I?

I am an Army wife and the mother of four amazing girls. My husband retired last year after serving 20 years in the Army. Our family lives in a small town in Oklahoma. My husband and I are very grateful for the opportunities the Army has provided for us. We're able to raise our children in a safe community and give our girls a lot of the opportunities we never had. I was raised by a single mother and our family struggled financially. I faced my own struggles as an adult when I also became a young single mom. I worked hard to provide for my daughter. I waited tables, worked locating utilities on construction sites, and tended bar. I know from personal experience what minimum wage life entails. I've been through struggles like those many Americans are facing right now.

Why am I running?

Like many Americans, I've becoming increasingly concerned and disturbed by the partisan game playing that has become so common in our Congress. Last summer, I organized a rally in front of Rep. Tom Cole's office in Lawton, OK. I invited other local progressives to join with me and we asked our Representative to remember who he works for. We asked him to stop holding our most vulnerable citizens hostage. We asked him to stop using scare tactics to advance his partisan agenda. Mostly, we were tired of seeing so much effort put in to advancing the Republican party and so little effort being put forth to help struggling Americans.

But, nothing changed. Our voices went unheard. I shared my concerns with other progressives. It was during that time that some suggested I run for Congress. I dismissed them by saying, "I can't run. I'm not a politician." Their response was, "That is exactly why we need you to run!"

I realized that there comes a time when we need to stop waiting for other people to stand up for us. So, here I am. I'm a wife and a mother. I'm a fed up and I'm done complaining. I'm going to do something about it. The legacy we are leaving for our children if we stay on our current path terrifies me. I'm ready to fight for our future. I'm not content with leaving our problems for the next generation to fix!

My Goals

My first goal is to shift the priorities of those in Congress. Our elected officials need to concern themselves more with improving our nation than improving their stock portfolios. This begins with an amendment to overturn Citizens United. The Super PAC circus that is becoming the norm needs to end. I would also work to close loopholes which allow our members of Congress to increase their wealth through practices such as insider trading.

My second goal is to end the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. Trickle-down economics doesn't work. Investing in America begins with building a solid foundation. Our working Americans would see their tax cuts extended permanently.

About the Endorsement Process

All campaigns seeking a DFA endorsement are first required to complete the endorsement application in order to be considered. Members of the DFA Political team will review applications after submission and make endorsement decisions on a rolling basis throughout the applicable election cycle.

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our membership. We gauge DFA member support in a number of different ways. For starters, supporters can publicly show their support on any candidate’s application page. We also utilize endorsement decisions of local DFA groups as a measure of local community support. Finally, if you know a candidate deserving of a DFA endorsement who hasn’t yet applied, we want to hear about them! Please visit the Endorsement FAQ page for answers to frequently asked questions about our endorsement process.

If you still have any questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
