John McCarthy for State's Attorney
| Name: | John McCarthy for State's Attorney |
| Office: | State's Attorney |
| Website: | johnmccarthy.us |
Background:
I have worked in the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office for the past 24 years and have served as the Deputy State's Attorney for the past decade. I have been a high school teacher as well as an Associate Professor at Montgomery College, where I have taught since 1979, and was a founding faculty member of Montgomery College's Paralegal Studies Program. I live in Rockville with my wife, Jeanette; we have four children ranging in age from 13 to 26.
Goals:
I have the experience, vision, and energy to protect our community and to ensure that everyone is treated fairly in the criminal justice system.
Issues:
The biggest issues facing our next State's Attorney will be preventing gang violence, ensuring that our children attend schools that are safe learning environments, addressing the problem of domestic violence in our community, and protecting our children from Internet predators.
Grassroots Support:
We have worked in the past year to establish a countywide grassroots campaign, and will continue to run a grassroots operation.
DFA Values:
I beleive the State's Attorney's Office should reflect the diversity of the community it serves. I am proud to have played an important role in hiring the first female Deputy State's Attorney in Montgomery County, the first Asian-American prosecutor, doubling the number of Hispanic prosecutors, and tripling the number of African-American prosecutors. I also beleive we have an obligation to protect our most vulnerable citizens. As State's Attorney, I will ensure that the resources provided to my office will be used in the most fiscally responsible way.
