Nancy Floreen for Montgomery County Council

Background:

I began public service as a community activist. I was president of the local elementary school PTA, served on various community Boards and Commissions, and then was appointed as a Commissioner on the Montgomery County National Capital Park and Planning Commission for 8 years, which honed my land use interest and expertise. I was elected Mayor of Garrett Park, one of the County municipalities for 2 1/2 years before my election to the County Council. I am married and have 3 young adult children.

Goals:

My first term enabled me to accomplish many worthy efforts in the area of housing, transportation, park enhancement, and library improvements. I would like to continue this work by increasing the quality of these and other services for our residents.

Issues:

traffic congestion relief, quality educational system, significant increase in housing the average family can afford

I am reaching out to all segments of the community to seek their involvement.

DFA Values:

I led the Council's effort to increase affordable housing and am a co-sponsor of our workforce housing program. I support strong educational programs for at-risk and non-English speaking students. including all-day kindergarten for all students. I am a leader on the Council to expand and enhance transit options for our residents. I consistently champion property tax relief and expansion of our homeowners property tax credit to help our lower income homeowners. I consistently work to ensure our tax policy is progressive and fair, seeking new revenue sources to avoid over relieance on the property tax.
