Rory Lancman for State Assembly

Background:

Rory Lancman was born and raised in Queens, and has lived in what is now the 25th Assembly District for thirty-two years. He attended Queens public schools, Queens College and Columbia Law School.

Rory has served on Community Board 8 for over fifteen years and he currently chairs the Board's Youth & Education Committee. For four years Rory chaired the Queens Hospital Center Community Advisory Board, during which time he led the community's successful fight to rebuild the hospital and keep it public. Additionally, Rory is a vice president of the Flushing Heights Civic Association, a board member of the Queens Jewish Community Council, a board member and chair of the legislative committee of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, and a volunteer New York City Civil Court Small Claims Arbitrator. Rory served in the Infantry in the Army National Guard from 1988-1992, where he rose to the rank of First Lieutenant.

Rory is a practicing attorney, representing victims of discrimination, securities fraud and defective products in civil litigation and appeals.

In 2000, Rory was the Democratic nominee for the Eleventh Senate District and ran a spirited race against the twenty-eight year Republican incumbent. In that race, Rory was endorsed by, among others, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, Congressman Gary Ackerman, Assemblyman Brian McLaughlin, the New York Times, Newsday, the Queens Courier and the Queens Tribune.

Goals:

Rory Lancman is running for NY State Assembly to reform Albany by opening up the legislative and budget processes. Because New York State legislature was named the most dysfunctional legislature in the country a year ago, Rory Lancman is determined to reform the legislature and to getting things done.
