Background:

I want our children to grow up in an America coming together, not falling apart. My philosophy comes from my working class family, and the twenty-seven years I spent as a trial attorney. In more than 125 jury trials, I have worked for those forgotten by the system. My typical client is the lone person facing overwhelming odds.

I was born in Southern California and raised in Utah in a working family. I learned to "Do what is right, let the consequences follow" -- my mother was a registered nurse, my father worked in aerospace, one Grandfather was a coal miner, and the other a railroad conductor.

I worked my way through the University of Utah and Pepperdine University School of Law. My commitment to justice and my dedication to the people of this community make me a strong, clear voice for all residents of California's 48th District.

I have four children and four grandchildren. I am married to a wonderful, supportive woman, Solange, also an attorney.

Goals:

My parents' savings was decimated after my father had a stroke. He was hospitalized. On Christmas eve my mother received a $93,000 bill from a facility my father was in because there was no room for him in the Veterans' hospital. I promise that if you send me to congress, I will fight for the Veterans, and their benefits.

Issues:

1) Ending the occupation of Iraq.
2) Fully funding the Veterans' Administration.
3) I commit to work in Congress to give every American a) a quality education, b) equal opportunity, c) real wages from real jobs, d) fair taxes, e) a secure retirement and f) a health care system that works for America ��" not just the top 1%. I want our future to be as bright and hopeful as any time in our history, and it can be if we have the courage to change the old style Washington politics. America must be a country of opportunity for all, responsibility from all, and a community of all.

Grassroots Support:

My whole campaign is grass roots based. Last cycle, I knocked on 4500 doors. My campaign has 150 precinct captains in place. We conduct regular volunteer training because I believe that we must meet one to one with our district or we can't win.

DFA Values:

America is still a country of the people, by the people and for the people. I believe that giving people a chance to work and feed their family and provide for their children builds initiative. Hunger destroys initiative. Hopelessness destroys initiative. Ignorance destroys initiative. A cold and indifferent government destroys initiative.
