Larry Kissell for Congress
| Name: | Larry Kissell for Congress |
| Office: | NC-08 |
| Website: | LarryKissell.com |
Background:
I'm a teacher and former mill worker from a small town in Montgomery County, NC. I came within 330 votes of defeating my opponent, a millionaire textile owner, in the 2006 election. I graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in economics, worked 27 years in textiles before the jobs went south, and have watched decisions made in Washington tear at the very fiber of the community I've devoted my 56 years to giving back to. I'm a life member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Biscoe, twice past President of the Biscoe Lion's club, immediate past chair of the FirstHealth Montgomery Board of Trustees, an avid cyclist and married with two teenaged daughters.
Goals:
I want to get this nation back on track, and I'm asking for your support. I get up and go to work every day, just like you. I understand why people are so disaffected by politics and I want to help individuals like us take our country back from Washington politicians and corporations. Even outspent by millions last year, our innovative grassroots campaign came within a margin of 330 votes from victory. With your help, 2008 will be a solid victory for the working families of this nation.
Issues:
I believe taking our country back from the hypocrisy of the Washington politicians should be everyone's top priority. I'd like to bring some real thought and honest brokering back to the table. A few of the issues where I know I can make a difference are trade, healthcare and education.
Grassroots Support:
I've been told our campaign last year redefined grassroots politics, accomplishing so much with so little. Nothing about that will change in 2008 as this campaign is being run both for and by the people. We've incorporated the best of both worlds, running a professional winning campaign including paid television, radio and direct mail with a healthy grassroots get-out-the-vote operation, innovative events like $1.22 gas and a real on-line presence. With your support, our grassroots operation will be a well-oiled machine in 2008.
DFA Values:
As both a former business manager and economics graduate, I want to run our government more efficiently, reducing the national debt burden on our children to whom we owe so much more in terms of education, protecting the environment and building a strong economy and bright future here at home. I believe the Constitution and Bill of Rights are our foundation and should be upheld at any cost.
