Eric Streit for U.S. House of Representatives
| Name: | Eric Streit for U.S. House of Representatives |
| Office: | U.S. House of Representatives |
| Website: | StreitForCongress.com |
Background:
Born in Paducah, Kentucky on July 8, 1969, Eric is the proud son of James "Jimmy"
and Mary Streit. Eric enjoyed many summers on the farm with his dad, played baseball
at the Paducah Khoury League and attended St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church. His years at Reidland High School were spent studying, working at Hannin Roofing and Sheet Metal and volunteering at the Market House Theater. At the age of 17, Eric enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving his country, Eric
was afforded the opportunity to travel the world. He was stationed aboard the USS Simon
Lake in Holy Loch, Scotland for two years before serving aboard the USS Paul and USS
Gallery, both deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After 4 1/2 years of honorable military service, Eric enrolled as a student at the University of Alabama at
Birmingham. An unexpected gap in the GI Bill left Eric and many veteran students vulnerable. Unable
to keep up with the high cost of tuition and books, Eric left school before graduating. After leaving Alabama, Mr. Streit pursued a career in the entertainment
industry with his most recent work including Animal Planet's That's My Baby, Travel Channel's Underway: Life at
Sea, and Intervention, the critically acclaimed documentary series which reveals the harsh realities of drug addiction.
Goals:
Upon my return to Kentucky three years ago, I noticed a lack of jobs, stagnant annual incomes and skyrocketing health care costs. I am running because our current representative represents solely his own financial interest, not the residents of KY-01. It is truly shameful that not only have the rich gotten richer over the past twelve years, but our representative is among one of the greatest offenders in creating the culture of corruption in Washington, D.C.
Issues:
Creating new job opportunities, Affordable Healthcare for everyone and Veteran's benefits
Grassroots Support:
Grass roots is an ESSENTIAL portion of my campaign. Name recognition is our #1 challenge in the primary election. Door knocking, phone banking, personal contacts and earned press have been our primary strategies to date and shall remain so throughout the primary and general elections.
DFA Values:
I believe that all citizens are entitled to fair wages, healtcare and retirement after a lifetime of work. This does not mean that we must break the bank by throwing money at these issues. Instead, we must create new, inovative ways of achieving solutions to all these problems. At no time did the founding fathers intend tax breaks for multi-millionaires to be their definition of "the pursuit of happiness".
