John Miller for State Legislature, District 83

Background:

Retired USAR Lieutenant Colonel 28 years USMC & USA. MBA, Certified Homeland Security Professional (CHS-V). I was a 17 year-old HS drop-out when I joined the Marines and went to VietNam (67-68). My wife of 37 years is a HS Math Coordinator/Teacher. Our oldest daughter is Special Ed teacher and our youngest daughter is college professor.

Goals:

More than ever before, Texas needs real change in our representation in Austin and it goes to the party level. We simply must take back our democracy and demonstrate real Texas values.

Issues:

As a west Texan, I am working for outstanding public schools that are not funded by new gambling laws, affordable healthcare to protect our children, and an economy that fosters expanding opportunities for small businesses to develop and operate. Grassroots Support:

I am running in one of the most conservative districts in Texas, against an incumbant that was targeted by his own party with special interest lobbyist funds to unseat him. He has always had a coffer of $60,000-100,000 and this year will be no different. I can't raise anywhere near those funds so I have to be able to do it with grassroots. I have always been a major financial supporter and volunteer of our local party. I can't win without the support of our base and from people that have had enough.

DFA Values:

I believe government exists to take care of those in our community that need extra help. Those capable of being able to work should provide services where needed in return for that help. School bus monitors, hospital volunteers, homeland security volunteering are ways to give back services for social financial assistance. I believe we must protect our environment and provide a park and recreation system for the health of our society. Only by electing more Democrats can we change the the moral compass of Texas.
