Knoxville shooting touches DFA members
The Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville where a gunman killed two and injured seven others was the church home of many DFA members in the Knoxville area.
Among them are Amy Broyles and her husband, Jamie Parkey. Amy is a Democracy For Tennessee endorsed candidate running for Knox County Board. Parkey was among those who helped subdue the gunman. You can see their account of what happened here. Fortunately, they were not injured.
The incident was sad on so many levels, but particularly because the gunman targeted the liberal community for the action.
As the church members begin their healing process, you may wish to help. DFT is not aware at this point of a fund for contributions, but you may want to monitor the church's web site for information.
The Knoxville News-Sentinel has also set up a guest book for people to share their thoughts about the incident with church members and the community.
DFT asks that you keep Amy and Jamie in your thoughts along with all members of the congregation as they work through this horrific event.
Jim Grinstead
Chair, Democracy for Tennessee
