Change is in the Air for Paraguay
Karl Rove could only dream of a 61-year lock on power, but that is exactly what the Colorado Party had been able to do in Paraguay...until now. McClatchy reports:
A former Roman Catholic bishop scored a historic win Sunday in this country's presidential election, ending the 61-year reign of what had been the world's longest ruling party.
...
Sunday's election ends a Colorado lock on power in this 6.8 million-person country that began in 1947, when the party seized control after a bloody civil war. The Colorado period also included the 35-year regime of dictator Alfredo Stroessner, who was ousted in a 1989 coup.

Why don't you get fixed, John. Maybe you won't be so cynical.
I'm clinging to the blog. even if it is broke

Watch this video of Rendell saying that young people for Obama have been drinking the kool-aid. What a horses arse.....
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/
And old people for Hillary are taking the ex lax?
Phil - lol! I was just thinking that they could just disable the blog and avoid our complaints so I'll thank them for that small favor. it would be interesting to see what Jim would think of the flow of conversation if he came on to blog with us sometime...!
I do not trust Rendel and his touch machines, most of which don't have paper trails, and the reliability of the machines themselves. Gotta wonder if those large Harrisburg black areas will have not enough machines and/or many that don't work at all.
Historically in these primaries the "errors" in the voting problems have never once benefitted Obama. California, New York, Nevada -- will Pennsylvania be next?
I am cynical and suspicious by nature, so don't mind me -- I never believed, in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy beginning at the very early age of about two:))
Howard and Barack are first so there!
Imagine if this primary from beginning to end were to be made into a documentary movie. Would anyone unknowning person believe it was authentic? Probably not.
Howdy all. Hillary would have to win by a considerable margin in PA for it to really mean anything. I think she gets a small margin or Barack squeaks out a win there. Either way, a victory for Barack...remember she was 20+ points up just weeks ago. Turned off NPR on the way home from BART....all of these "undecided" Pennsylvanians getting on my nerves. They KNOW who they're voting for fer gawd's sakes.
..............
Tipping my Mojito to Denise;)))
Why don't you get fixed, John. Maybe you won't be so cynical.
How is it cynical for me to ask the incompetents in HQ to bring this blog up to the standard of every other one on the Web?

Why can Diebold build ATM's that work 99.99999% of the time (with redundancy and paper trail), but they can't build an honest voting machine?

Joan, re: Would anyone unknowning person believe it was authentic?
I feel the same way about the story of Bush the Second!
Clinton: If Iran Nuked Israel, We Would "Totally Obliterate Them"
What would happen if Israel nuked Iran? (a much more likely event, since Iran is years away from having nukes).
The AIPAC-whipped American politiciansof both major parties would call it "self defense".

We hope your interest in the North Carolina Democratic Party will not end with the cancellation of the debate.
We will keep your e-mail addresses for a random drawing to attend a special event in the fall featuring the nominee.
Senators Clinton and Obama have offered additional opportunities to be seen and heard across the state in the coming weeks and months.
Both candidates have committed to attending our Jefferson-Jackson Dinner on Friday, May 2 in Raleigh.
Tickets are available by signing up online at www.ncdp.org.
Again, the Party thanks you for your interest in the Democratic Presidential primary. We hope you will continue to be involved in local and state politics.
i think one problem with the electronic voting machines is that they are not used often enough. Sitting in storage is not good for electronic stuff. You know what happens to batteries left sitting in a flashlight you keep for emergencies. Also, temperature and humidity affect the contacts and corrode the metals. ATM machines are kept on all the time, their temperature is kept constant and it can run periodic checks to test the system (usually at night). Energy surges or cut-offs will alter programs. It's not possible to keep and IT person on staff to service equipment that's used so infrequently. Bottom line, they're just not practical and they're too expensive and they're not secure from tampering.
We just need to take a decision that on election day there will be more and new volunteers. poll workers everywhere are getting very aged. Also, they need to be trained.
The candidates will have cameos on WWF Raw tonight (while Bush has a cameo on "Deal or No Deal" -- NO DEAL, BUSHIE, NO DEAL!!!)
Typically Hillary says something like, "The last man standing might be a woman."
And, typically, Obama trumps on wit with, "Can you smell what Barack is cooking?" with a mischievous smile.
Commentators on News Hour saying Obama is doing better in the rural areas than they thought he would.

Won't You Be My Neighbor
The Democratic National Committee is rolling out its new online Neighborhood Volunteer tool, which will empower grassroots activists to use the party's voter file for organizing efforts in their communities. The DNC is launching it first in Kansas and Virginia, two states where officials said they had the structure in place to make it a quick success, but beyond shortly thereafter.
"We’re way ahead of where we were four years ago in terms of our field operation," DNC Chairman Howard Dean said today on a call with reporters. "And I think we’re going to make sure the American people don’t get bamboozled by the wishy washy-ness of John McCain."
Here's how the DNC explains it:
The tool builds on the DNC's investment in its new state of the art national voter file. Each volunteer will be asked to contact their neighbors. The program provides walk packets, scripts, and materials for the activist to print out from home or in a campaign office should they choose. The data volunteers collect are fed back into the voter file.

Clinton: If Iran Nuked Israel, We Would "Totally Obliterate Them"
What would happen if Israel nuked Iran?
======================
This is typical man-bites-dog Orwellian globetty-gook - ISRAEL IS THE ONE WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS ! - NOT IRAN - but in typical neocon fear-mongering style (also popular in Israel BTW) it is our own shit that stinks - and we complain about the other guy's shit.
The DNC is using the Iowa developed voter file software, and it really is very good, but only works is you knock on doors. The development of the scripts for trained canvassers is a bit of an art though and data is only as good as the questions asked. free lancing use of this tool is about like buying a gun without taking a safety course.
a quick post............
elizabeth edwards is blasting away at john mccain, the two-faced maverick, who has called her statement about his health care plan a "cheap shot.' both of them, as cancer survivors with pre-existing conditions, would not be eligible under his plan. the two-faced maverick talks up his bio, but he doesn't step into the skin of others.
keep blasting away, elizabeth!!!

barack might pull it off. telephone surveys like the time-valued presidential primary polls rarely, if ever, reach cell phone users, who tend to be the technologically savvy young. as a result, this demographic would be undersampled in the pennsylvania primary.
also, my hunch--just that--is the bosnia sniper fire lie tipped the white working class male bloc.
If Israel ever nuked Iran, there would be a wave of at least 25 million suicide attackers heading towards Israel and it would thereafter cease to exist - they would overrun the land like locusts - The country itself, not the Zionist ethnic form of State, would diminish. The 7,000,000 citizens of Israel would become refugees, although most of the Arabs might be spared. And all their fancy weapons would not help them.
I think israeli intelligence knows this.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Basically, Russia should form a defense pact with Iran......that will cause the nonsesne in the ME to come to a grinding halt..............would Americans risk their own ciites getitng nuked if certain shenanigans take place in the ME?
Its come down to decision time folks...........I told ya to keep your noses out of that region.....now youre all(and your politicians) are neck deep in crap.....................
Hillary just fillibustered with Keith. Unbelievable - doing this to avoid the tough questions.
My husband and I watched The Daily Show, it must have been a rerun, Barack was not on it. Anyway he was showing clips of Clinton, she said something like she walked in the woods with the Holy Spirit or some such thing, my husband choked on his drink.
I guess the live show is later.
Well, Hillary's comment is kooky in the most basic way. Israel doesn't need us fighting any wars for them. They have fought and won their wars so impressively we might want them to fight a few for us.
As has always happened in the past, as soon as Iran gets anywhere close to nuclear weaponry Israel will just simply take out their reactor and let them start over.
And you'd better all pray to whatever god or non-god you do or don't believe in that Iran doesn't sign any treaty with Russia.

rae 27 --
But was she channeling Eleanor Roosevelt at the same time she was walking with the Holy Spirit?
LOL

Hillary just said it on Larry King. She is GOING TO REACH OUT TO REPUBLICANS. She would like to have a bipartisan foreign policy.
Who'd a thunk? LMAO
Maybe a Republican or 2 in the Cabinet.
And they jump on Barack for this? Anyone who didn't like it when Barack was saying this care to comment?
If you need names to refresh your memories I'm glad to oblige :)
Hi cChal :) You're probably gone but that mojito sure was good! So was the company.

Subject: Answer to where are all of Saddam Husseins Fighter Jets from Desert Storm and

Well, here's the full post.
What they are ready to do!
Answer: They are all in Iran. The first week of Desert Storm , Stormin
Norman, called them "Chicken" and that they tucked tail and ran, To Iran.
Remember that Russia has a full military treaty with Iran. If anyone attacks
Iran, Russia attacks back. The Iraqi fighter jets were left alone to fight
another day. All of the world looks at the unlawful and illegal invasion by
the United States into Iraqi sovereign territory as deplorable. It is now
the United States Vietnam III.
If those 500 plus Iraqi fighter jets in unison attack the United States
Aircraft Carriers in the Persian Gulf, the world looks on, well Iraq is at
war with the United States for illegally invading its sovereign land. Loaded
with sea skimmer missles, these figher jets could very well take out the
United States fleet in the narrow Persian Gulf.
You will find Joe Vialls , investigative reporters detailed report below:
You may find it and the excellent one on Russian putting 100 of their
Sunburn nuclear missles in Iran and Syria over a year ago, as a deterent to
discourage, the United States from further invading Iran and Syria for its
real estate to take the land locked oil and Natural gas from the Capsian Sea
( in the Trillions of $ of value) at http://www.vialls.com
If you don't think the United States is hiding these facts from you, then
ask yourself why has google and other search engines, have a total black out
on it. Just try it. Type in google, Sadam Husseins fighter jets, location,
first week of Desert Storm". They have blacked it out, as they don't want
you to know what is brewing. The real solution in supporting our Troops, is
to BRING THEM HOME NOW.

She is still pushing the Florida/Michigan delegate seating issue. Unreal.
Oh great now she is commenting on someone in a wheelchair who registered to vote (elderly person) for the first time just to vote for her.
Why the gratuitous mention that he is in a wheelchair? Does that have any bearing on anything? It would if she went on to say how much her campaign does to get handicapped people to the poles.
Women who self-deceive find it VERY easy to try to deceive others. It's a coping mechanism for them. Self destructive, too.
Ånd then there's this:
Russia and Central Asian Allies Conduct War Games in Response to US Threatsby Michel Chossudovsky
Global Research, August 24, 2006 Barely acknowledged by the Western media, military exercises organized by Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan under the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, (CSTO) were launched on the 24th of August. These war games, officially tagged as part of a counter terrorism program, are in direct response to US military threats in the region including the planned attacks against Iran.
The Rubezh-2006 exercise, is scheduled to take place from August 24-29 near the Kazak port city of Aktau:
"It will be the first joint military exercise undertaken by CSTO countries, and will involve 2,500 members drawn from various armed services of member states, with Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan the principal participants. Uzbekistan, which has recently rejoined the CSTO, will send observers, while the two other pact members, Belarus and Armenia, will not be taking part .( IPWR News Briefing Central Asia)
Press reports from the region describe these war games as a response to US military presence and ambitions in Central Asia:
"The growing militarisation is connected with mutual mistrust among countries in the region, say analysts. Iranian media have speculated that the United States is using Azerbaijan to create a military counterweight to Iran on the Caspian. It is possible that the exercise conducted by the CSTO – in which Russia is dominant – represents a response to concerns about United States involvement in developing Kazakstan’s navy. Observers say Russia is leaning more and more towards the Iranian view that countries from outside should be banned from having armed forces in the Caspian Sea."
Experts say the US is trying to step up the pressure on Iran, as well as to defend its own investments in Azerbaijan and Kazakstan. It is also trying to guarantee the security of the strategically vital Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.
A military presence on the Caspian would give the United States an opportunity to at least partially offset its weakening influence in Central Asia, as seen in the closure of its airbase in Uzbekistan, the increased rent it is having to pay for the Manas base in Kyrgyzstan, and the diplomatic scandal that resulted in the expulsion of two Americans from Kyrgyzstan.
According to analysts, genuine security in the region can be achieved only if the military interests of all five Caspian countries are coordinated. At an international conference in Astrakhan in July 2005, Russia proposed the formation of a Caspian naval coordination group, but to date the initiative has not had much of a response.(Ibid)
I think there's a new thread. Walking in the weeds w/ the holey spirit.
Seashell the link doesn't work and I can't find anything at www.apfn.net.
What kind of website is that?
I found apfn.org but it seems like there is alot of old material on there.
Russia doesn't have anything like a "full military treaty" with Iran.
Russia sells Iran a lot of weapons and also sold them their reactor. What passes for a treaty is essentially toothless. It merely says if an outside power were to attack Iran, Russia will not help the attacker.
Really. You can look it up. ;-)
