So, McCain wants a "gas tax" holiday, For years Dems have been labeled "tax and spend", I call Republicans "Spend and Spend"

Written by: anomalous Biff on Apr 15, 2008 11:51 AM EDT

They claim to be so fiscally sound and claim to be cutting spending, but the truth is they are more than happy to spend all the money they need for their pet projects. ( Iraq and Afghanistan, plus tons of others) with no regard to the debt or the damage the uncontrolled spending will have. Never mind the impact on our children and gran children, no debt is too large, plus they get to tell the world how fiscally conservative and sound they are, their policies and philosophies will drag this country to economic ruin. The worse thing?..Our party leaders give great lip service to opposing the insanity, then turn around and vote for it. Something must be done to right our economic ship, or this great country is sunk!

MoDo takes down Barack. She rips Annie Oakley a bit but saved her most venomous words for Barack.

The Clinton campaign is succeeding at disrupting the party process, and hurting Obama.

Good morning, everybody

Bitter--better--butter

I can't believe it's not torture

That's my title for this morning.  Funny how the brain makes connections.

Tax relief is a bribe to the little man.  The big boys get oil leases and logging rights and coal-laden mountain tops.  It used to be that good children got an orange from St. Nick and the bad ones got a lump of coal.  But coal has gotten more valuable so now the poor get a few buck to buy an organge juice and the rich get to get richer selling off our coal, oil, natural gas, whatever.

Think of the unjust steward in the bible.  When he knew he was to be sacked because he'd not performed well, he wrote down his master's debtors so they'd owe him some favors when he was kicked out.  That's what Republican tax cuts are--making presents with somebody else's money to make themselves look good.

I finally saw a tractor in the field yesterday while I was trucking and there is always one guy that starts too early and makes clods, so I figure today it might work.

Every "flap" Obama gets into has a moment when new people want to hear what he really meant, and listen to him, and his numbers rise.

Florida, not to worry, you will have delegates, as long as they don't decide the contest. Michigan I have to say you might too, but no way in hell will they be allocated by your straw poll with only Hillary on the ballot.

Today is the pope's 80th birthday.  (as a lapsed Catholic, frankly I think of his trip here as a photo-op)

Today is the 1-year anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre.  (as a former college student, I hope students across America and the world see this tragedy as a reminder that we are ALL in this together, this tenacious hold on life, so familial and personal income inequities aside for the moment, cultural and religious differences suppressed for some reflection, and most of all honesty with yourself and others you encounter)

Howard's latest appeal for money contains the sentence:

"Your contribution means we stay competitive. It means we can go out and respond to the Republican attacks while Hillary and Barack work to become our party's nominee."

Howard, they're spending millions tearing each other down, when they should be spending that money going after McCain and the Republicans.

Instead Billary keep telling us that McCain is a "moderate", and is better presidential material than Obama.

Boxer Asking for Congressional Investigation of Gas Prices
Thursday, March 06, 2003

Senator Barbara Boxer is calling on Congress to investigate California's soaring gasoline prices.

Boxer asked the General Accounting Office to look into reports that refiners are taking more plants than normal off line for maintenance, cutting supplies and sending prices spiraling upward. Boxer also wrote the heads of seven major oil companies, asking for records that show how many hours their refineries were off-line over the last four months, as well as during the same period a year earlier. ... http://www.mymotherlode.com/News/article...

McCain calls for summer-long suspension of gas tax By LIZ SIDOTI

McCain proposes suspending US gasoline taxes this summer Republican Sen. John McCain on Tuesday called for a summer-long suspension of the federal gasoline tax and several tax cuts as the likely presidential nominee sought to stem the public's pain from a troubled economy.

Timed for the day millions of Americans filed their tax returns, McCain offered some immediate steps as well as long-term proposals in a broad economic speech. The nation's financial woes have replaced the Iraq war as the top concern for voters, and McCain, who has said economics is not his strongest suit, felt compelled to address the problems as he looks ahead to the November general election.

"In so many ways, we need to make a clean break from the worst excesses of both political parties," McCain told an audience at Carnegie Mellon University. "Somewhere along the way, too many Republicans in Congress became indistinguishable from the big-spending Democrats they used to oppose."

To help people weather the downturn immediately, McCain urged Congress to institute a "gas-tax holiday" by suspending the 18.4 cent federal gas tax and 24.4 cent diesel tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day. By some estimates, the government would lose about $10 billion in revenue. He also renewed his call for the United States to stop adding to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and thus lessen to some extent the worldwide demand for oil.

Combined, he said, the two proposals would reduce gas prices, which would have a trickle-down effect, and "help to spread relief across the American economy."

Aides said McCain's Senate staff was drafting a bill on the proposal. It's likely to face strong opposition not only from Congress but the states. The federal gasoline tax helps pay for highway projects in nearly every town through a dedicated trust fund. In the past, such proposals for gas tax holidays have not fared well as lawmakers and state and local officials prefer not to see changes in their revenue source.

For the last 30 years I've been calling the Republicans "borrow and steal".  Feel free to use it.

"Steal" as in bloated or out-right fraudulent no-bid contracts to campaign donors, enormous, useless earmarks to campaign donors (heard of "the highway to nowhere"?), etc.
