For Republicans, the Rules Don't Apply

Written by: DFA Staff on Apr 7, 2008 7:00 PM EDT

McClatchy reports on the failed attempt of Rep. Patrick McHenry to exercise during a trip to Iraq:

Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., told Lincoln County Republicans that he got turned away at the gym in Iraq's Green Zone, the fortified area where he and other members of Congress stayed during a recent visit to the war-torn nation.

Rep. McHenry was turned away from the gym in the Green Zone; a simple matter of not having the correct credentials to enter the facility.  However, because Rep. McHenry is a Republican there has to be someone to blame and insult:

"Sure enough, the guard wouldn't let me in," McHenry told the dinner crowd, according to an audio tape of his March 29 speech given to McClatchy Newspapers by his GOP challenger for the 10th District seat, military attorney Lance Sigmon of Newton.

"He said I didn't have the correct credentials," McHenry continued. "It's 5 o'clock in the morning and I haven't had sleep. I was not very happy with this two-bit security guard."

Hey Phil, while you were panicing, "The Dow is up 8.4% from its 2008 intraday low on Jan. 22. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq are up 9.2% and 9.7% off their March 17 intraday lows, respectively" Buy low sell high

======================

Wall Street's been making money by literally disassembling our factory equipment and manufacuring infrastructure and selling it to the Chinese and other $1/day wage countries.  It took decade of design, construction and evolution of processes to built that infrastructure and the capital markets sold it off to the highest bidder on the cheap.

Years ago we immigrated cheap labor, but now the top capitalist pig bosses want all the benefit but no responsibility.  They sell out to China, who lends them money to keep the neocons in power, business as usual, until the bubble burst.

The country loses, the worker losses, the middle class loses, but the consumer gets cheap [and toxic] products. Those who live off capital and stock, and the executives are doing well.  We can consume but we cannot produce.  It is an unbalanced economic structure, and we will eventually have to pay the piper.

Congressman Mc Crery (R) says   "progress"  is  " the murder rate of trade unionists in Colombia is now lower than the general murder rate in Colombia"

If it were not so tragic, it would be funny.

Everyone thanks for comments on your biggest news. I think I sleeepwalked throught the RFK/MLK murders, the Chicago riots, etc. I was a young housewife then mostly worried about my tiny little world and keeping hubby out of active duty. Also, I think the unthinkable became the norm during that time.

IMF approves huge eventual gold sale
By HARRY DUNPHY, Associated Press Writer
Mon Apr 7, 6:38 PM ET
WASHINGTON - The International Monetary Fund's executive board has approved a broad financial overhaul plan that could lead to the eventual sale of a little over 400 tons of its substantial gold supplies.

The sale cannot occur without congressional approval as well as legislative action in many of the 184 other nations that are members of the Washington-based lending institution.

Hillary ClintonA dream starts to fade

For after that point, Mrs Clinton will not be able to hide behind the rationale that she is testing the electability of her Democrat opponent. The storm over the fiery sermons of Jeremiah Wright produced one of the best and bravest speeches Mr Obama made. But that test has been passed. Other stumbling blocks can be created but it is going to look increasingly as if the Clintons are doing John McCain's work for him. Refusing to admit defeat, if the next three states produce an indecisive result, will have nothing to do with the big picture. It will have everything to do with a refusal to admit that the Clinton era is over, for both of them.

Penn, Wolfson:

Cashing in on the Clinton campaign

Where do all those little-guy donations go? Ask top strategist Mark Penn, as he exits with millions in consulting fees.

By Mike Madden

...

The Clinton team seems to have been loose with the purse strings even by current standards. With less money to spend, Clinton has paid her top officials more than Barack Obama has paid his, winning fewer elected delegates in the process. Besides Penn, there's Clinton's communications director, Howard Wolfson. He appears to have set up a consulting firm for the sole purpose of working for Clinton, called Gotham Acme, which has taken in more than $700,000 since the race started. No other client has paid the firm a cent since 2003.

From Michael Sneed's column in yesterday's Chicago Sun Times

Poison Penn?
Hill swill: Embattled Dem presidential contender Hillary Clinton's political strategist, Mark Penn, was spotted eating lunch alone Thursday at the original Heaven on Seven eatery.

• • The stats: Penn reportedly sat in a corner "eating what looked to be a beef brisket Po' boy, guzzling coffee and reading a disheveled Sun-Times," said a Sneed source. "And sweating," added the source. Hey, elections are the ultimate workout.

Oh man, Heaven on Seven in the Garland Building.....shrimp diablo and some jalepeno cornbread. Worth the 6 block walk for lunch back in da day of working in da Loop.

Vote for Barack in this aol online poll.

I know, it's an online poll, unscientific, but AOL voters are dial-up, blue collar folks (one could assume), and this poll is specifically about Obama's totally made up, so-called patriotism problem who's flames the corporate media is trying to fan.

I think Obama should at least consider Tom Daschle as VP. He was a very popular white, male Democratic Senator (and former Maj leader) from a Red Midwestern state.

He also spoke out about the Iraq war on it's eve.  In fact, his speech on the topic eventually led to him losing the majority leader's job and his Senate seat, through a repug dirty election and paid bloggers in SDak.

Daschle essentially took one for the team on Iraq and he, like Obama (and Howard and Gore), turned out to be right.

What do you think?

You have to read it to believe it.  One is the chairman of the Hillsborough County Dems...that's Tampa area.

Sen Daschle did vote yes on taking us into Iraq though. The difference between him and Hillary is he admitted it was a mistaken vote shortly after. I think not admitting her vote was a mistake was one of the things that hurt Hillary early on.

She played it by the book, but forgot an important fact. The fact that we've had seven years of a Commander in Chief who did nothing but make mistake after mistake, but wouldn't admit to even one. The fact that having our next Commander in Chief unable to admit when she made a mistake would be the last thing we would want in the White House again.             JM in NY

Seymour is very country. My hubby and I went to college not too far from Jackson County. We honeymooned on Lake Monroe.

Seymour, IN is the birthplace of singer John Mellencamp. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seymour,_In...

Johnny Cougar rocked the Blue Bird in Bloomington, IN when wer were in college. He had a hit on the local radio station.

???

Phil what the heck...(lol) Government has to do with our “needs that we cannot meet as individuals”?

Looks like, as soon as Government is involved we are getting immediately somehow less individuals...lol.
CAN we preserve our individuality and yet meet our individual needs doing something collectively WITHOUT the Government involvement, if we CAN DO IT WITH IT?

Or do we need Government as a “leader”, (a policemen, a law enforcer, a judge)??? Are we, the People, able of DOING THE SAME WITHOUT the Government or we do need NANNY?
