California Assembly District AD 14 Candidate Speeches

Written by: Edwin Rutsch on Apr 2, 2008 6:20 PM EDT

Linked to groups: California for Democracy

I video taped the speeches for  the California Assembly District AD 14 Candidates  at the El Cerrito Democratic Club 3/25/08.  This will probably only be of interest to people living in California AD 14.

However, I asked the candidates what are progressive values. How do you think they did on answering the question?  I find Nancy Skinner did the best job of actually addressing what are progressive values.

This is such good news, I want to shout it from the rooftops.  I feel quite vindicated, knowing that mainstream Jews and I feel the same way.  Our dem critters were fooled by AIPAC...or were they?  Judy for Dean will be delighted to hear this, I'm sure. And it's about time!

Go J-Street!

*********************

Aim of ‘J-Street Project’ is to counteract AIPAC lobbying on Capitol Hill.

While the structure of the new group is still in flux, sources say it is expected to raise money for congressional candidates who advocate a stronger U.S. role in ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

by James D. Besser
Washington Correspondent

Almost a year after reports of an “alternative AIPAC” emerged in the middle of the Jewish political world, many of the same players are on the verge of announcing a revised initiative intended to get the message to politicians that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee is not the only pro-Israel voice in town, The Jewish Week has learned.

Dubbed the J-Street Project  — “K Street” has become a cipher for Washington’s lobbying establishment and “J Street,” missing from Washington’s downtown grid, has become a local “in” joke — the new project kicks off with a hush-hush fundraiser next Monday hosted by former Clinton administration official Jeremy Ben Ami and Daniel Levy, director of the Prospects for Peace Initiative of the Century Foundation. The group

will be publicly launched around the middle of April; organizers said they will not speak publicly about the group until then.

“For too long, the loudest American voices in political and policy debates have been those on the far right — often Republican neoconservatives or extreme Christian Zionists,” according to the invitation. “J Street aims to change that. We are the first and only lobby and PAC (political action committee) dedicated to ensuring Israel’s security, changing the direction of American policy in the Middle East and opening up American political debate about Israel and the Middle East.”

It also faces a political challenge because “AIPAC has been recognized by non-Jewish politicians as the voice of the Jewish community,” he said. An alternative voice “may be hard to sell to non-Jewish politicians who don’t want to be tarred as anti-Israel.”
Jews on the left, he said, are less likely to put Israel-related politics at the top of their list of giving priorities – something AIPAC supporters and supports of pro-Israel political action committees have traditionally done.

And the new group will face aggressive attacks from the Jewish right.

“I’m a realist; these people will get hammered and accused of being anti-Israel,” Wald said. “A lot will have to do with the way they actually frame their arguments.”

Stabenow is last, if she doesn't toss Mr. $10.00 per min. blow job husband to the curb.

Shoulda used Jiffy Lube (for less $$--same results).

So many stupid misogynistic men in this country ...so little time.

mainefem - What I want to know is why do these supposedly strong women stay with such cheaters? Yuck. I found out a few months ago that my best girlfriend's sister stayed with a dirtbag who has been cheating on her for their entire 28 year marriage. My question was: What took her so long to dump the guy?

Ted Olson's Report of Phone Calls from Barbara Olson on 9/11: Three Official Denials This rejection of Ted Olson’s story by American Airlines, the Pentagon, and especially the FBI is a development of utmost importance. Without the alleged calls from Barbara Olson, there is no evidence that Flight 77 returned to Washington.

Pentagon: Colleges must hand over names The Defense Department has announced a new get-tough policy with colleges and universities that interfere with the work of military recruiters and Reserve Officer Training Corps programs. The new policy also no longer lets schools ban military recruiters from working on campuses solely because a school determines that no students have expressed interest in joining the military.

Barbara Peterson: America's Silent Killing Fields (9 comments)

America's silent killers are deadly, and do not discriminate. They target babies, the elderly, teenagers, young adults, middle-age housewives, and businessmen alike. They poison livestock, pets, and wildlife, and the people behind them deny complicity in the carnage.

Iftekhar Sayeed: Elegy's Elegy The decline of the elegy betokens a certain loss of sensibility in the western world in the twentieth century, a loss described by Mircea Eliade as "desacralization". Where other cultures continue to distinguish between the sacred and the profane, the West has conflated the two.

She's totally stupid, mary.

It's all about a betrayal of trust & power dichotomies, & reinforcing a patriarchal double standard dichotomy.

Nobody can claim that they "didn't know," or couldn't leave/toss the bums out after that many years.

Women like Stabenow, Spitzer's wife, & Hillary's 35 yrs. of enabling have oodles of $$ and power.

Also-mental health counseling (great health insurance for Beltway types).

Resources & choices which other women low SES don't have.

They can pay someone to move their belongings & create a safety plan, if in a DV situation.

Also sets a pi$$-poor modeling example for their children & constituents; by reinforcing said dysfunctional behaviors.

See Chelsea fmi--she's fair game now, while out in the public sphere.

Being snippy & defensive about questions only draws attention (yes, it did affect her, huh)?

To perceive that voters won't forget that dysfunctional shit is also stupid.

Chelsea's a 28 yr. old adult. Expect questions while on the stump for "My [Enabler] Mom."

Larry Craig's,  McCain's, & David Vitter's wives, too.

I won't respect Stabenow if she pulls the ol' misty-eyed "stand by her man" shit.

Toss his ass, and fast. Although I doubt that she will. She's already the laughing stock of the country.

It's 2008--middle-aged adult women should have a clue or fifty by now.

I'd cut young women slack--due to inexperience.

Not anyone over age 25.; who's had time to meet different people & learn about life.

Doubly pathetic, due to homophobic ideations, & Raptor-like voting records.

Late night pundits will have a blast w/this one tomorrow & Fri.--so soon after Spitzer.

I don't get it about women "standing by their men" either.  If my husband had done any of these things, his ass would be grass.

So Chelsea is 28.  I didn't realize she is that old.  She is an adult, she is out there speaking for her Mother, which is fine.  But you gotta believe she has been coached on what to say if she is questioned about her Dad's problem with keeping his zipper up.

My Granddaughter is one year within the age of Monica L when the incident happened with Bill C.  I would be mad as hell if a man did to her what Bill C did to Monica L.  It is lecherous.  Maybe Monica was more worldly than my Granddaughter, but she was still young.

And to think I used to stick up for Bill C, boy was I stupid.

Bill was a classic sexual harrasser.  He was the one in the position of power; & he abused it.

Not just a few times, either.

In the Oval Ofice, no less-the location was integral--esp. now that Hillary's schedule is out; and it happened while she was on the premises.

When he said "I did not have sex with THAT woman," it insulted every woan in this country who's experienced infidelity.

Millions of women were instantly subjugated.

Factor in Hillary's "stand by her man" thang; and it wasn't really all that long ago.

Bill was fucking around on her long before they married; so I have zero empathy for her.

...which is one reason Gore chose bland idiotic "conservative" joementum.

He wanted to distance himself from the Clintons (don't blame him); but he goofed w/his choice!

Lewinsky was much younger than 28 wasn't she, Rae?

For the Clinton campaign to somehow perceive that Chelsea isn't fair game on the stump?  Nope.  She's not 13 yrs. old anymore.

Unfortunately, there are millions of women in this country who tolerate & "settle" for crumbs.

It's sickening.

Again--political women DO have options & choices ($$$) which most women do not.

That's where I lose empathy. That martyr crap doesn't wash w/me.

Zero boundaries w/the Clinton brood. So enmeshed.

Stop enabling, get some f^cking counseling, already--and dump the morons.

Men only pull that shit when they know they can get away with it (and with whom).

They leave clues everywhere--it's as if they *want* to be caught.

It sets a terrible example for kiddos--they never witness a healthy egalitarian relationship.

My #2 hubster pulled it.

I found a wad of double-sided incriminating 1 1/2 yr. old phone bills in his desk while cleaning our office.

Placed it in the middle of his dinnerplate. Sorta stood out all by itself!

He turned fifty shades of crimson; & my sole retort when he got to the table was "EAT IT."

"Lights out" for him. Told him to purchase his "extracurricular" activities in the future.

I don't get into trophy wife as a commodity mode.

6 weeks into the marriage--glad I found it; & didn't waste time w/that asshole.

Women who behave like doormats are treated as such.

Duh.

22 is very young--still a legal adult, but not terribly experienced w/men.

I blame that one on Pecker Packer/sexual harrasser Clinton.

Stabenow's husband chose a 20 yr. old newbie (and *she* was arrested, which sucks).

Pun intended.

She's only trying to make a living. Sex workers don't lead glamourous lives.

The majority are runaways and/or incest victims.

I'm doubting he "tipped," either. He has a daughter from a previous marriage.

I'd guesstimate that she may be of similar age (or close).

Which is doubly sickening-I can only imagine his past histories.

Dump his ass--her political career ruined.

Or it *will* be soon.

My young doc whom I adore changed aspects of his practice which made me curious but that was all. Then I was looking up another doc a specialist and btw found out my doc had gotten too cozy w/ a patient (looked consensual to me from what one can divine from the available documentation) and got himself in hot water. Not to be overly sympathetic but I don't think we women have any clue as to the power of a man's sex drive. I too have been stung w/in a marriage and was totally clueless, not once but twice.
