DFA Endorses Dicker
The national board of Democracy for America has endorsed Anne Dicker for First District State Senate in PA and will begin mobilizing volunteers and fundraising across the nation to support the only real reformer in this race.
Arshad Hasan, Executive Director of DFA, personally flew down to Philadelphia to make the endorsement.
Help out by making a contribution to Anne's campaign!

(Barack : 5. Says he doesn't get mad and frustrated.
Oh fer god's sake, even Jesus got mad. He's either lying or he's weird. Promoting himself at Saint Barack... He says some silly things, but this is too much. Howard gets mad. If people aren't angry, they're not paying attention. Healthy anger can be a great movtivator. He should try it. Even his wife has an edge, and that can be a good thing. Maybe she's the family member expressing the anger the others are repressing. There's an interesting psychological theory about that...........

grassroots re-control of the peoples party is revolutionary stuff
So far there's only the illusion of control, IMO, which the CM is good at projecting. We won't know whether or not the grassroots matter until it's too late. We were fooled in 06. I have no reason to believe things will change very much, if at all in 08. They would if Howard were Prez or VP...or if Gore were. It's true that it seems that the people want change, but since when do the people count? We also wanted out of Iraq and impeachment.
Rooney posts good info on the CFR - that elusive body of people behind the curtain .... that noone wants to talk about. They also don't want to talk about Bilderberg or AIPAC, do they? Or impeachment? Or getting outta the ME?
The propaganda is being *catapaulted* big time.
(now I'll go stand in the corner with mike and huron) :-)

Obama to shoot hoops in Indiana with former IU starStory Created: Apr 2, 2008 at 5:46 PM EDT
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama will go three-on-three against a former Indiana University basketball star and four students, tapping the state's rich basketball tradition in an effort to get out the vote for Indiana's May 6 primary.
An 18-year-old high school student who registers 20 people to vote will choose two students to help challenge the Illinois senator on the court, said Kevin Griffis, a spokesman for Obama's campaign in Indiana.

Oh no! NPR is reporting that bad weather in Europe has lead to decreased production of hops, a crucial ingredient of beer. The shortage is causing the price of fancy microbrewery beers to rise.
Miller and Budweiser aren't affected because they have futures contracts and use less hops. How much will the price of microbrew beer rise? No one is sure yet, but the brewer that NPR interviewed was very worried. He equated the skyrocketing price of gasoline to beer, and is worried that the hops shortage will price him out of the market.
They also don't want to talk about Bilderberg or AIPAC, do they? Or impeachment? Or getting outta the ME?

Raleigh, N.C. – Barack Obama has taken the lead over Hillary Clinton 45-43 in Pennsylvania, according to the newest survey from Public Policy Polling.
It’s a remarkable turn around from PPP’s last Pennsylvania poll, conducted two and a half weeks ago, that showed Clinton with a 26 point lead in the state. That poll was released at the height of the Jeremiah Wright controversy and the day before Obama’s major speech on race in Philadelphia. Obama has been trending upward in national polling and in many state level polls since then and this survey reflects that pattern.

Oh fer god's sake. I'm watching BO on Hardball. The sheeple just sat quietly when he said that we have to finish the war in Afghanistan and rout out the whomevers. MORE WAR.
Wake up! He's gonna be another war prez and we're gonna still be killing and maiming innocents and having our soldiers killed.
Good grief. The sheeple are anaesthetized.
He also said, when asked about listening to us if he's elected, "You try and shape public opinion." Oh fer god's sake, that's what's happening now in the CM. It's called catapaulting the propaganda.
Some BO supporters also need to pass tests in order to vote.
Oh, fer god's sake. What an effing mess this country is.

Even the most hard-hitting questioners, however, failed to pin the execs down on the real issue, which is how to convince an oil industry that is running up against absolute supply limits to switch gears and invest resources in what Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Washington) called the 'clean energy revolution.'"

In all fairness to BO, I like him a lot when he talks about race and his family and mostly when he talks about domestic policy.
It's his foreign policy that turns me off.
We really need a Buddhist prez...or Quaker or a Kucinich...we desperately need to move from an international war mentality to international peace mentality.
I hope I live long enuf.
It's his foreign policy that turns me off.

two choices
one of which is working parallel to Howard, and one counter
it is kind of a no brainer for many former deaniacs, but take your time you don't vote for a month yet

BO...anti-gay marriage.
Progressive? I think not
================================
I have not read his latest book but a quick skin through the index gave me some pages. Have not read them all.
I did read that he is for civil unions, as Dean is, and that he believes homosexual couples do have the same civil right and benefits that married heterosexuals do.
IMO - I have always stated that the state marriage certificate is a certificate of civil union, not marriage per se, which has its origins in religion and culture.
IMO - It is not the state which has a say in how marriage should or should not be defined. Taking a position on gay marriage is political special interest politics. Supporting civil unions for the purposes of rights and benefits is not.
Therefore, it is not the place for politicians to be a spokesperson for either side in the debate. They should be concerned with the law and how unions should receive rights and benefits, not how we should define those unions.
With the exception of same-sex marriage, which both Obama and Clinton have declined to support, Obama has backed virtually all other gay-related issues pushed by gay rights organizations, Baim said.
She noted that both Obama and his wife, Michelle, have regularly attended gay community events in the state.
“There’s been a great comfort level,” Baim said, that Barack and Michelle Obama have shown in their encounters with both gay men and lesbians.
Ben LaBolt, a spokesperson for the Obama campaign, said Obama recognizes that Wright and Trinity Church have an inclusive policy toward gays and people with HIV.
It's ok to be a chimp. It's ok to re-district Texas illegally. It's ok to (fill in repub sex scandal du jour). It's ok to wipe your backside with the Constitution. It's ok to politicize a families private medical decisions. It's ok to start a war. It's ok to catapult the propoganda. It's ok to give the President dictator powers. It ok to run caging operations. It's ok to fire US attorneys for being real, honest upholders of the law. It's is ok to shoot your friend in the face. It is not ok to be gay.

Memo justified warrantless surveillance
By PAMELA HESS and LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writers
56 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - For at least 16 months after the Sept. 11 terror attacks in 2001, the Bush administration believed that the Constitution's protection against unreasonable searches and seizures on U.S. soil didn't apply to its efforts to protect against terrorism.
That view was expressed in a secret Justice Department legal memo dated Oct. 23, 2001. The administration on Wednesday stressed that it now disavows that view.
The October 2001 memo was written at the request of the White House by John Yoo, then the deputy assistant attorney general, and addressed to Alberto Gonzales, the White House counsel at the time. The administration had asked the department for an opinion on the legality of potential responses to terrorist activity.

New PAC To Offer Pols A Dovish Mideast View Aim of ‘J-Street Project’ is to counteract AIPAC lobbying on Capitol Hill. While the structure of the new group is still in flux, sources say it is expected to raise money for congressional candidates who advocate a stronger U.S. role in ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Almost a year after reports of an “alternative AIPAC” emerged in the middle of the Jewish political world, many of the same players are on the verge of announcing a revised initiative intended to get the message to politicians that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee is not the only pro-Israel voice in town, The Jewish Week has learned.

Obama holds LGBT fundraiser in New York City
Mon Mar 31, 7:37 PM ET
Sen. Barack Obama waded deep into Clinton territory Thursday evening at a private LGBT fundraiser in New York City
...
attendees were struck by the Illinois senator's candor as well as his fluency with LGBT issues.
"I've been to many events over the past 10 years of candidates running for office," said Corey Johnson, one of the hosts, "This was the most forthright, eloquent, and detailed stuff I've heard from a politician [regarding gay issues]."
Molly Lenore, 43, compared Obama's discussion of the LGBT community to the speech he gave about race in America last week. "During his race speech, everybody said afterward that he treated the American people like adults, and I felt like that's what he did," said Lenore, who is transgender and an Obama supporter. "I might not agree 100%, but I want to have an intelligent conversation with somebody."

Totally OT, I read on Frommer's boards today a fellow who said that one could play a Brit DVD on one's laptop but don't ever plan on playing a US one afterward -- in other words, it will switch zones 'a time or two' and then it won't switch anymore. So I girded my loins and ordered that which I've been salivating over for a year or two now - Magic Flute with Rene (be still my heart) Pape as Sarastro from Amazon UK. I never watch DVD's on my Mac so it seems a worthwhile sacrifice as long as I don't fry it. Also OT -- a milestone of sorts in N FL today -- first day in shorts!
The Bill Clinton who met privately with California's superdelegates at last weekend's state convention was a far cry from the congenial former president who afterward publicly urged fellow Democrats to "chill out" over the race between his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Barack Obama.
In fact, before his speech Clinton had one of his famous meltdowns Sunday, blasting away at former presidential contender Bill Richardson for having endorsed Obama, the media and the entire nomination process.
"It was one of the worst political meetings I have ever attended," one superdelegate said.
According to those at the meeting, Clinton - who flew in from Chicago with bags under his eyes - was classic old Bill at first, charming and making small talk with the 15 or so delegates who gathered in a room behind the convention stage. full article: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...

Yes, the choice is whether to always post doom and gloom or balance it a bit with looking for some solutions.
It's a imperfect world and we all are imperfect.
I'm supporting an imperfect candidate for president -- Barack Obama -- but he's the best thing that has come along, and this far, in a long, long time.
There is a new thread.

I give you credit Phil and others for all of your patience. It shows a caring community here.
Debbie downer here:
I am so sick and tired of the some of the freaking dolts I work with. Stupid! I can't stand 'em. I might as be listening to talk radio or the corporate media.

First Time Homebuyers' Tax Credit Act (6 cosponsors thus far)
Was able to watch Barack on Hardball...he did SUPER!!! Biggest laugh I got was when Matthews asked him what made him chuckle the most...Barack said something like...I think that happens about once a day. But then I stopped watching cable news.
I must say you all here on the blog are getting some good threads put together lately...I've enjoyed.
Been too busy myself so haven't have time other than to scan from time to time...probably not even going to buy a fishing license this year for three reasons (you don't know how big a deal this is to me).
1) Growing more nice organic veggies to curb food costs...just put up my new greenhouse today so can transfer the sprouts out soon.
2) With being a first time grampa come June (I think sooner)...lots of help to daughter and son-in-law. Grand daughter should be fishing age by next year...lol...my kids were.
3) Getting people involved in our democracy at a local level...we're planning some low/no cost fundraisers/events. In the past most events our committee held were at least $25 to attend. We'll still have those events but add something like a $5 B-B-Q w/softball game...get everyone involved in a Democracy Day...should be a National holiday dontcha think?
Later...back to emails and website stuff.

Totally OT, I read on Frommer's boards today a fellow who said that one could play a Brit DVD on one's laptop but don't ever plan on playing a US one afterward
" I recently bought a DVD disc through eBay from a gentleman in Britain. When I tried to play it on the DVD player attached to my TV, a screen popped up saying I was in the wrong region.
I then tried it in the CD-DVD player (Samsung) in my computer and it said the same thing. My computer, however, did allow me to change over to region 2, which is Europe, but will only allow me to switch back and forth between Regions 1 and 2 a total of 4 times, and then it becomes permanent.
I don't want that to happen as only the one DVD is a region 2. Is there anything I can add to my DVD player in my computer (or my regular DVD player) that would allow me to play DVD's from other regions whenever I wanted? Thank you. "

Thanks for the info sunlight -- those region free players ain't cheap are they...all I want to play is one lousy movie.

However, there is no such thing as a DFA National Board. Local DFA members endorsed Anne Dicker and we followed their lead. That's how endorsements work at DFA: people-powered from the bottom up. :-)
Go Anne!
