A CNN post: Mukasey 'surprised' by scope of terror threats 03 / 21 / 2008
This equates to going to a hospital ICU and telling someone that they are going to die! You just don't say such a thing. What is the intent?
Haven't y'all heard the sky is falling? Fortunately there are people who will prevent that from happening with hope, not fear.
HOPE, NOT FEAR!
Peace
Did i tell you that the terror threat they were planning on simulating here was students protesting the war in Iraq?
Somebody gave them a planning grant.
As an Obama supporter I might shock you with a defense of Hillary today and the "danger" of her visit to Bosnia. When I hosted the Bus Tour in 1992 after the Convention we had set up an event that had a group of our young 4-H leaders on stage and the younger children were given the front row seats in a roped in area. As host I worked all week with the Secret Service and as it went off without a hitch you could have taken the picture with the little girl there.
but early afternoon of the day of the evening event a credible bomb threat came, and the agents took it very seriously and had to send for a special sniffer dog which delayed the whole event, and my stomach tightened as those children filled the stage and it was me that had made the arrangements that put them at "risk" (however small ... it was real)
the secret service sniper in the window of the farm house 400 yards away, the two guard dogs in the corn field, went un-noticed, and I for one was glad when that sniffer dog showed up and gave the OK, even though 6-7 thousand people had to wait an extra hour and everyone just blamed Bill Clinton for always being late
the pinnochio noses in the Washington Post just might have been unfair
How can anyone happy on Easter, when the Republican hate machine and the poor journalism in the corporate media serves-up Barabbas for a condemnation of Jesus.
...for Christ's sake!
(pun intended)
Phil, you are always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. That's what I love about you.
Having said that, I myself have no such compunctions:
"In her Iowa stump speech, Clinton also said, "We used to say in the White House that if a place is too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the First Lady."
Say what? As Sinbad put it: "What kind of president would say, 'Hey, man, I can't go 'cause I might get shot so I'm going to send my wife...oh, and take a guitar player and a comedian with you.'"

I was glad I caught the early Church services on TV because I had to replace a breaker that runs the motor on my belt feeder (luckily I had a spare and can do basic electrician work) of all days Easter Sunday, so I missed the services at my congregation.
family is getting together later so I wish you all a good day whatever the significance to your personal faith, mine is going to get better when I see the little guy, miracles do happen (helped along by medical miracle workers)
enjoy the day
The racists are coming out of the closet bigtime in the wake of Fox's misrepresentation of Wright's sermons and Obama's articulate and reasoned speech.
The Detroit Free Press letters this morning were positively shocking. And Big-Dawg Clinton's smear of Obama just adds fuel to the fire.
I fear that the Democrats have found a way to lose November's election to this regressive, senile putz from AZ. The Clintons will bear a lot of the responsibility--not that they care.
Paine...just another day for me...though this athiest did use to like hiding easter eggs for the kids when they were little. I'm sure many are happy just to be with family. Happy Easter to those who celebrate it.
well who can argue with Sinbad donna?
I just meant that there is a risk in being First Lady, or in running for President.
Obama shares it. and Hillary might well have been told there was a sniper threat, so that she isn't making something up even as the threat itself was small
that sure isn't the reason that I am not supporting her, I think she is qualified for the job, I just don't like the crew she runs with or the policy that would result with her in the White House
that Bush Clinton Clinton Bush Bush Clinton is way too long for a country to go in one direction
Huron John,
I suspect many shocking letters, etc., to be planted by two of three opposing campaigns. The genuine third are people who can be educated to see things differently.
It's a long time from now to November and I do not underestimate Obama's ability to deal with the negative barrage. I saw Jack Kennedy's ability to deal with the fear of Protestants like my parents (who did not vote for him, did not matter, and came to appreciate his abilities).

Well, actually, everybody in an ICU and everywhere else, for that matter, is going to die. What makes it a good topic to generate fear is the fact that nobody knows ahead of time what that experience is going to be like and uncertainty is always a bit distressing. But, since self-awareness and other cognitive functions shut down first, you're not going to know when you die anyway.
But, let's look at this from a slightly different perspective. Consider that you're part of a group that's been scheming and plotting for three decades to reverse the legislative and judicial and executive actions that have put the power to run society into the hands of all of the people and that, in addition, you've made every effort to restrict their access to what they need to survive so they are left with no alternative but to follow orders and behave as the members of your group direct. In other words, you've created a lot of stress and pressure. So, what do you expect to happen next? Wouldn't a prudent person expect a stressed population to revolt and take its revenge?
See, that's what I think our ruling elite are up against. They're terrified that the people are going to revolt. But, they're not.
Because, I think we've actually got it wrong about how history gets repeated. I
've already suggested that if we don't learn from the mistakes of the past, it's probably because people are inclined to think that they can do what went wrong better and then it will be good, which it rarely is. Nevetheless, this is where our elite are going wrong. They think that efforts to repress the population during the 1960s failed because their efforts weren't sufficiently comprehensive, when, in fact, what happened was that their efforts weren't in any way instrumental and didn't affect the basic achievements at all. Because the goals of the people are different from the goals of the elite. The reason some people revolted during the 1960s was because they wanted to be respected. The elite thought people wanted power and what they consider evidence of power, wealth.
No doubt, conservatives are frustrated because no matter how much wealth they accumulate, the people don't seem to be impressed by their superiority.
Yes, the elites have made a terrible mess of the economy. But, all their efforts to be recognized as superior have gone for naught. And what occurred to me today is that perhaps the reason mistakes keep getting repeated is because the people who make them like making mistakes. Maybe they like making big mistakes because they make them feel important. Which suggests that the need to feel important makes one prone to making big mistakes.
Is that what we see happening with Hillary Rodham Clinton? Her need to fail spectacularly?
Reed, I had a conversation with a few folks on friday as I ate lunch. Two of us felt our heart is with the life Jesus lived and how he was led to his death by man. The other likes the death and everything that comes after that (IE salvation, heaven, and all the intangibles).
Happy Easter. Doh!
Well, I could go search hypem.com for Patti Smith's Jesus Died For Somebodies Sins, but not mine...
...but I gotta git back to preparing for guests.
Love to all. Down with Hate, long live Love. Down with Wrote, long live Posted. Blessings.
Lost In The Supermarket < cute voice.
I got my kids to believe that the jelly beans I would hide around the house came out of the Easter bunny's ears which is why they could be hidden around behind things in small places.
If an Easter Bunny can lay eggs they can lay them with their ear.
I'm one that thinks if a story can last two thousand years there is a hidden truth there even if not some Final Truth but heck if just for the fact I will be watching games on big sceen HD with the little guy on my lap I say celebrate
everyday is a miracle anyway and the circuit gives earth the right tilt about now so i say "Spring?, bring it on!" the sod under the snow is in need of resurrection

................ the Democratic stars are rapidly aligning for disaster. Mrs. Clinton is no longer trying to overcome Mr. Obama’s lead in the popular vote and among pledged delegates by making bold statements about Iraq or any other issue. Instead of enhancing her own case for the presidency, she’s going to tear him down. As Adam Nagourney of The New York Times delicately put it last week, she is “looking for some development to shake confidence in Mr. Obama” so that she can win over superdelegates in covert 3 a.m. phone calls. If Mr. Wright doesn’t do it, she’ll seek another weapon. Mr. Obama, who is, after all, a politician and not a deity, could well respond in kind.
For Republicans, the prospect of marathon Democratic trench warfare is an Easter miracle. Saddled with the legacy of both Iraq and a cratering economy, the G.O.P. can only rejoice at its opponents’ talent for self-destruction. The Republicans can also count on the help of a political press that, whatever its supposed tilt toward Mr. Obama, remains most benevolent toward John McCain.
This was strikingly apparent last week, when Mr. McCain’s calamitous behavior was relegated to sideshow status by many, if not most, news media. At a time of serious peril for America, the G.O.P.’s presumptive presidential nominee revealed himself to be alarmingly out of touch on both of the most pressing issues roiling the country.

Happy Easter to all those who celebrate Easter.

Re: The previous thread.
Any Democrat now knows that Obama will be our nomintee, Clinton is out. So who else is there? Nader? McCain?
How do these blogs get posted here by people who are obviously not Democrats? This blog ought to review the rules of "Recommended" and make them stricter or do away with them altogether. Free speech should not include allowing Republicans free reign to post here. We have better things to debate.
I was happy to read that several members of the Kennedy family were out campaigning and registering voters in Philly Friday.

Look, Hillary Rodham Clinton went to GWU on St. Patrick's Day. Instead of referring to the wearing of the green as a sort of genial opener to her speech, she refers to some supposed danger in Bosnia that's already been debunked, a meeting with someone from Northern Ireland, another topic that's been shot down, and then launches into a speech in which she paints herself as the person with solutions. The falsification was gratuitous.
It reminds me of the fact that Bush Two also tells gratuitous lies, as if daring someone to expose them.
In HRC's case, the falsified introduction was actually consistent with a host of falsifications in the rest of the speech. I could go through them, but I won't bother because, frankly, the Clintons aren't worth it. Even if the president is only a figure head, you don't want a liar in that chair.
So, you desperately want to watch every second of March Madness, but year after year, you're stuck at work during the tournament and miss the games. What's a college basketball fan to do? Well, an Oregon clinic has the perfect way to get some time off when the NCAA tournament gets underway: A vasectomy. link: http://mvn.com/outsider/2008/03/09/march...

Vasectomy clinic gets in on bracket racket By Andy Dworkin
The Oregon Urology Institute is running a college-basketball-themed vasectomy promotion, urging men to "lower your seed for the tournament."
"When March Madness approaches you need an excuse ... to stay at home in front of the big screen," says the radio ad. "Get your vasectomy at Oregon Urology Institute the day before the tournament starts.
"It's snip city."
The idea came from institute administrator and self-proclaimed "sports guy" Terry FitzPatrick. He knows men should spend two to four days relaxing and recovering after a vasectomy — though some don't, he notes, including a man who hopped on his motorcycle with painful results.
"Wouldn't it be ideal," FitzPatrick thought, "just to be able to have your vasectomy so you could watch March Madness?"
The clinic has no special offers for women who want to watch the tournament in peace.
The Springfield, Ore., practice held in reserve a dozen "premium vasectomy appointments" for March 19, the day before the men's NCAA basketball tournament starts, and another dozen for March 26, before the tournament's second week. It advertised only on a sports-talk station in Eugene.
FitzPatrick said he had hoped to book one or two of the outpatient surgeries, enough to cover costs, though he wouldn't reveal the price, citing competitors.
Fifteen men have signed up. FitzPatrick expects to fill all 24 slots and to make the promotion annual. ...

Good, i don't think it's good for any people to hide in closets. Lots of racists are just looking to see how much support they get for what they have long assumed to be a widely shared antagonism. If it earns them nothing but condemnation, they'll give it up. Except for the masochists. LOL
Fesno Bee Front Page Story
Home fans don't see Fresno State on TV
Reason unclear, but most were shown other game.
By Jeff Davis / The Fresno Bee
03/22/08
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Most viewers tuning in to watch Fresno State in the Women's NCAA Tournament on Saturday got another basketball game instead.
Rather than seeing the Bulldogs play Baylor in their first NCAA Tournament game in the 43-year history of the program, fans got the Auburn-George Washington women's game at Stanford.
An ESPN official said the game, in which Fresno State lost 88-67, should have been on ESPN2, as originally scheduled.
"We absolutely apologize and understand the frustration of the fans," said Josh Krulewitz, vice president of public relations for ESPN. "There are no excuses for it. It came down to a miscommunication.
"The early rounds of the tournament are regionalized with multiple games in each window. Fresno was supposed to be protected in its market. We will do everything in the future to prevent something like this happening again."
Krulewitz would not elaborate when asked about the miscommunication.
Some viewers were able to get the game. With ESPN providing a feed of the Fresno State-Baylor game, the onus actually falls upon each cable or satellite provider to switch to the correct feed and show the right game.
Rather than broadcast the Fresno State-Baylor game, Comcast cable and the Dish Network showed the Auburn-George Washington game.
DirecTV also began showing the Auburn-George Washington game but switched to the Fresno State-Baylor game shortly after.
Representatives from the three cable providers could not be reached for comment Saturday.
"It adds insult to injury," Fresno State athletic director Thomas Boeh said.
"I've been getting all kinds of phone calls about it." ...complete story: article: http://www.fresnobee.com/263/story/47918...

Title IX Awards Raise Colleges' Bias Liability By Viv Bernstein
A string of jury awards in Title IX cases at Fresno State, part of California's state university system, should serve as a warning sign for other schools. But women's sports advocates say the legal battle is far from over, as a case in Florida shows.
(WOMENSENEWS)--Amid complaints a few years ago from a women's volleyball coach at California State University, Fresno, that her team wasn't receiving equal treatment with men's programs at the school, some members of the athletic department decided to have a party.
In April 2000 administrators hung a banner in an office, complete with pictures of female athletes with cutouts of male heads attached to them. And they sipped drinks under the banner that read: "Ugly Women Athletes Day."
Weighty payouts from lawsuits based on Title IX--the 1972 law that bans discrimination on the basis of gender in educational institutions that receive federal funds--have since followed.
Lindy Vivas, the women's volleyball coach who made the complaint, did not get her contract renewed in 2004. When she filed suit against Fresno State for violating the federal antidiscrimination law, "Ugly Women Athletes Day" became part of the evidence. Last July a jury awarded Vivas $5.85 million in compensation and damages.
At the time, it was considered an eye-catching amount for a Title IX case even though a judge later reduced the award to $4.52 million.
But those figures were dwarfed in December when another jury, ruling in the dismissal of Fresno State women's basketball coach Stacy Johnson-Klein, awarded the coach $19 million in a suit also involving Title IX. That was since reduced to $6.6 million by a judge.
Still, those recent jury awards--coupled with multi-million-dollar settlements at the University of Colorado and University of California, Berkeley--have raised the possible upside for those willing to risk a Title IX legal reprisal.
But will it inspire real change in the treatment of women's teams and coaches moving forward? ... http://www.womensenews.org/article.cfm?a...
