Driving by to say I posted some pix from my vacation on Flickr at

Schedules Show Clinton Meetings With Felons

By RUSSELL BERMAN
Staff Reporter of the Sun
March 19, 2008 updated 8:31 pm EDT

WASHINGTON — The release of more than 11,000 pages of schedules from Senator Clinton's time in the White House offer a limited window into her day-to-day activities as first lady, showing that she met not only with world leaders but also with convicted felons who helped her raise cash for her 2000 Senate run.

...

fund-raising schedule Mrs. Clinton kept during her run for Senate in 2000, including several private functions hosted by donors with criminal records at the time or who have since been convicted of felonies. On June 9, 2000, she attended a fund-raiser at the glitzy Spago restaurant in Beverly Hills hosted by Aaron Tonken, who was sentenced in 2004 to five years in prison for mail and wire fraud. Later that same day, the schedules show, Mrs. Clinton attended a fund-raiser at a private California residence where she was introduced by Peter Paul, a Hollywood businessman who was convicted in the 1980s of cocaine possession and of trying to extort $8.7 million from the Cuban government. The Clinton campaign returned a $2,000 check from Paul two months later after initially denying that he had contributed to her campaign.

The schedules also show two appearances Mrs. Clinton made in the fall of 2000 with Denise Rich, the wife of the financier Marc Rich, who received one of Mr. Clinton's most widely-criticized last-minute pardons. Rich had been hiding in Switzerland after being charged with 51 counts of tax fraud, and his wife was a major donor to the Clintons.

...

Senator Obama's campaign seized on a meeting Mrs. Clinton attended in 1993 on NAFTA, an agreement she has criticized during the campaign.

...

The records were released following requests by reporters under the Freedom of Information Act and a lawsuit by the conservative group, Judicial Watch.

I'm watching Ari Fleischer (I thought we got rid of him) spin his ass off to try to demonize Barack Obama via Rev. Wright.

What about your boy's BFF Rev. Sun Yung Moon, Ari?

Why was that never plastered all over the Corporatist media?  It's far more scandalous. Oh, well.

NASA Attempts to Spin the Fact there is No Global Warming

Richard Harris
National Public Radio
March 19, 2008

The Mystery of Global Warming’s Missing Heat

Some 3,000 scientific robots that are plying the ocean have sent home a puzzling message. These diving instruments suggest that the oceans have not warmed up at all over the past four or five years. That could mean global warming has taken a breather. Or it could mean scientists aren’t quite understanding what their robots are telling them.

This is puzzling in part because here on the surface of the Earth, the years since 2003 have been some of the hottest on record. But Josh Willis at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory says the oceans are what really matter when it comes to global warming.

In fact, 80 percent to 90 percent of global warming involves heating up ocean waters. They hold much more heat than the atmosphere can. So Willis has been studying the ocean with a fleet of robotic instruments called the Argo system. The buoys can dive 3,000 feet down and measure ocean temperature. Since the system was fully deployed in 2003, it has recorded no warming of the global oceans.

“There has been a very slight cooling, but not anything really significant,” Willis says. So the buildup of heat on Earth may be on a brief hiatus. “Global warming doesn’t mean every year will be warmer than the last. And it may be that we are in a period of less rapid warming.”

In recent years, heat has actually been flowing out of the ocean and into the air. This is a feature of the weather phenomenon known as El Nino. So it is indeed possible the air has warmed but the ocean has not. But it’s also possible that something more mysterious is going on.

 FROM ABC NEWS tonight...
Martha Radditz interviewed Cheney today:

M.Radditz: "Two-thirds of Americans say the Iraq War is not worth fighting...[considering] the net value gain versus the cost of American lives certainly, and Iraqi lives."

D. Cheney: "So?"

M. Radditz: "So...You don't care what the American people think?"

D. Cheney: "No, I think you can't be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls."

I had lunch with my 20-year-old niece, about to graduate college with a science degree and hoping for a future career in forensics with the FBI.

She's off to visit a potential grad school, Albany, and I asked if she was going to try to meet our new Gov. Paterson.

Sweetly she replied, "Well, I'd like to find where Eliot Spitzer lives so I can personally kick him in the nuts."

And only yesterday she was an innocent little child, LOL.

As for the candidates, she's a frustrated ex-Gore supporter. She wants nothing to do with Hillary in the WH (never mind Bill being there too, she just hates Hillary on every level). Ditto McCain.

She said what bothers her about Obama is he seems to be light on specifics. I told her I thought that was changing as the campaign enters its final phase. She is looking forward to hearing more from him in hopes she can give him enthusiastic support.

It was an interesting conversation.

That germ bin Laden has threatened Europe with severe reprisals for reprinting those anti-Mohammed cartoons.

If, as I suspect, our government knows exactly where he is and is waiting for a politically advantageous moment to reel him in, they certainly have a lot to answer for. And the Rev. Wright will be a little more right.

Speaking of the Corporatist Media falling down on the job, did you hear about this story?

From Barack's site...

Apparently, today was a slow news day.

So Fox News evidently decided to pore through our millions of user-created pages on My.BarackObama.com and put a screenshot of inflammatory content on the front page of FoxNews.com.

You see, more than 700,000 people have created accounts on the system. You can create one right now if you choose, in about a minute -- anyone can.

Now, from time to time people get up to no good -- creating fake profiles (like one for Sean Hannity created today), or posting profane or inappropriate content. When they do, the community reports the offending content and if it violates our terms of service it is removed (as the Sean Hannity profile was).

My.BarackObama.com has been at the core of our bottom-up organizing strategy. The tools available have been put to work by a community of supporters that is bigger and more powerful than anything presidential politics has ever seen.

Evidently, Fox News didn't think it was a big deal that hundreds of thousands of ordinary Americans are participating in the democratic process creating groups and local events in communities all across the country.

But they did think it was a big deal that one random person on the Internet, without the knowledge of the Obama campaign, posted a profile in the system with the image of the New Black Panther Party on it.

When we were alerted of the existence of this page, we pulled it down. Yet even after we pulled the page, Fox News continues to disingenuously and prominently feature this "story" on their homepage.

If you have feedback for Fox News, you can email foxnewsonline@foxnews.com.

Ånni, loved the photos, especially Prague.  S. Argentina looks brrrrrrrcold.

rdorgan, it's been reported that so far nothing earth shattering has come outta the released papers and that HC had little or nothing to do with NAFTA.  Lotsa falsehoods around.

For me it's best to watch and listen to them right now.  People are digging up and inventing half truths, half lies.

volney, I agree with your niece.  He says so many words while saying so little.  The speech today was a disappointment....just more war and threatening sanctions talk.  Or maybe he didn't mention sanctions today, but he has.

Yesterday s/o mentioned slow genocide..IMO that's what sanctions do, and they usually hurt the women and children the most...and BO is talking sanctions.

Genocide, by other names, is flourishing in parts of the world that the US doesn't happen to like - or wants to control.  Keep 'em starving and sick...it's a form of genocide.  Ånd now it's starting against US citizens.

*********************

Darn right the BH knows where OBL is IMO. He's putz's best excuse for continual warmongering and most likely is being paid well for making vids and shouting "BOO."

This regime is many things, but not inept.  They have planned the chaos well.  Ånd now cheney is over there planning the next stage.

We are living inside a horror show.

One of my favorites writers:

William Rivers Pitt | Why?
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/031908R.shtml
Truthout contributor William Rivers Pitt says, "Five years in Iraq. That's 1,825 days since 'Shock and Awe' lit up the skies above Baghdad, all of which was captured live and in living color by unblinking CNN cameras with unobstructed views of the carnage."

A small sample of the excellent must-read Pitt article.

*********************

The one and only reason this White House chose to legitimize the infliction of ruthless agony with the stamp of presidential approval is because somebody somewhere forbade them from doing it.

They may all genuinely despise the very idea of torture, but not as much as they despise being told "No" under any circumstances. "No" is the red flag to Cheney's bull. "No" is unacceptable to the Unitary Executive. "No" will not stand, period, and whatever the matter at hand may be is almost completely irrelevant to the argument as they see it. Forcing "No" into becoming "Yes," or forcing the defeated retreat of whatever adversary dared to defy them with a "No," is the complete sum and substance of Bush administration ideology.

Tens of thousands of protesters across the world have taken part in a day of protests demanding the withdrawal of US and British troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gee that is surprising since you all have "claimed" to support Afghanistan but opposed Iraq.  I of course knew better all along/   I know, I know, we are bad all others are only victims.  We must never have our way prevail.
