DFA Training Goes Online Video
Linked to groups: What are Progressive Values? Study Group
I attended the East Bay CA, DFA training on March 1 and 2, 2008 and video taped the first 11 or so hours of the 18 hour training. After talking with DFA Training Director, Matt Blizek, we decided to place these sections online.
In the introduction video, I also asked participants what they felt Progressive Values are. These values are the essence of what they are working to actualize in our society. They talked about Justice, Fairness, Equality and Participatory Democracy. DFA training gives progressives the nuts and bolts tools to turn these values into reality. Please do help get the word out about the online training videos.
BTW, Joan and I will be going to Take Back America Progressive Conference in Washington DC next week. We'll be holding a workshop session on What are Progressive Values? Tell Your Personal Story . Monday, March 17, 2008 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM , RM 2 If you're there, keep an eye out for us and stop by, say hello and be interviewed for our documentary.
Below is a 10 minute introduction to DFA Training I edited together and 9 of the unedited training sections.
You can see the full outline and links to the individual Training Videos at this URL

Thank you Edwin so much!
thanks for the responses..
hopefully the online training will help.. the video is a great introduction to actually taking the training when it comes to your area or as a refresher if you've already taken it.
I know several of the people I met there had taken the training before. One of the best things about the training is networking with all the other activists.. They all come together in one spot in your area for 2 days..
I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts about placing the training online..

Sinbad Speaks - FOR REAL! Sinbad - the REAL Sinbad - is finally speaking up about his trip with Hillary. And it's, uh, wow, is it not good for Hillary.
Check it out here.
- billysumday's diary :: ::
A few choice quotes:
In an interview with the Sleuth Monday, he said the "scariest" part of the trip was wondering where he'd eat next. "I think the only 'red-phone' moment was: 'Do we eat here or at the next place.'"
Clinton, during a late December campaign appearance in Iowa, described a hair-raising corkscrew landing in war-torn Bosnia, a trip she took with her then-teenage daughter, Chelsea. "They said there might be sniper fire," Clinton said.
Threat of bullets? Sinbad doesn't remember that, either.
"I never felt that I was in a dangerous position. I never felt being in a sense of peril, or 'Oh, God, I hope I'm going to be OK when I get out of this helicopter or when I get out of his tank.'"
In her Iowa stump speech, Clinton also said, "We used to say in the White House that if a place is too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the First Lady."
Say what? As Sinbad put it: "What kind of president would say, 'Hey, man, I can't go 'cause I might get shot so I'm going to send my wife...oh, and take a guitar player and a comedian with you.'"
For seashell: "The Few, the Proud. . .the Clinton Bloggers" from Tom Watson's blog:
"To be a Clinton blogger in the progressive blogosphere is to be hated, shunned, passed without notice in the street. We sit home on Friday nights, cursing at Chris Matthews and being censored by Al Giordano for commenting too often in a field of swaying Obama supplication. We're not welcome at all the best dKos parties - if we show up, we're cursed with the universal epithet of those who challenge the Obama hegemony: 'troll,' they call us. Sometimes 'f'ing troll.' We're Rovian in our embrace of the monster, closet Bush backers and much worse - Lieberman types! Oh, the pain. The pure pain. I can't stand it. Makes me want to quit, embrace that messianic goodness, and stand down - for the sake of the party, of course - from any pursuit of a Clinton presidency."

Pelosi: No ticket
Nancy Pelosi tells Boston TV that a Clinton-Obama or Obama-Clinton ticket is "impossible."
"I think that the Clinton administration (sic) has fairly ruled that out by proclaiming that Senator McCain would be a better Commander in Chief than Obama. I think that either way is impossible," she said.
Also: "Nothing ever resolves itself -- it has to be resolved by some outside forces," she said.
If Obama becomes our next president, a lot of it will have to do with the power of the online community (that Dean started incubating four years ago).
What power?
"You have the power" turned out to be an empty slogan. The power we thought we had was swept away by the DLC, the Democratic establishment, and the corporate media. The "Democratic Wing" sank without a trace
They had the power--they still do.
linda b - the Sinbad stuff is hilarious. Hey, Clinton opened herself up...
Will the real Joe Trippi please stand up!
A diary from Trippi:
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/3...
This diary contradicts an interview he gave just this week. I'll try to find it.
To be a bully turned victim by personal choice is perhaps the most difficult thing to admit to oneself. What goes around always comes around. When he's had enough of the self inflected personal pain, he'll let go of his need to have a mean-spirited evolution.
Trippi's interview with John Heilemann on Monday:
http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2008/03/joh...
Besides the *bottom up* talk - he's saying the race isn't over and Obama has a 70% chance at the nomination. Today, he pretty much says it's over.
Congrats to the Heritage High School Girl's BB Team. Going to the State Finals.
My son's high school.

Admiral Fallon resigning.

I don't think that DFA will be at TBA this hear. It is in March instead of June and my schedule and finances won't permit it.
And good luck on attendance. TBA puts these workshops out there but there are so many other things going on, it is difficult to get good attendance. Best of luck to you.
Obama has a lot of ground to make up in PA. SUSA has a poll out which is not great for Obama.

I would help fund the new campaign ad showing the 3 AM phone call.
The receiver rings. A hand reaches out and picks it up.
Cut to Sinbad yelling "Wassssup!"
Then grinning widely.

pulling it out of their ars.

"IMO, the only thing that elevates Obama above Clinton and Mccain is that they are such poor candidates..............."
Mike, you took the words outta me mouth. LOL
House Republicans have pressed a vote to shut-down the House (Motion to Adjourn) until the Senate take up Foreign Intel Bill (warrantless wiretapping).
Too proud of Admiral Fallon for submitting Retirement papers, because he can not in good conscience implement the Policy of the current CIC-POTUS.

DLC Announces Chicago Site of 2008 National Conversation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON -- At a press conference today the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) announced that Chicago, Ill. will be the site of its 12th annual National Conversation to be held June 28-30, 2008.
DLC Founder and CEO Al From was joined at today's press conference by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, who will serve as honorary chair of the event, as well as U.S. Rep. and House Democratic Caucus Chair Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.-5).
With the leadership of Mayor Daley and DLC Chair Harold Ford, Jr., this year's National Conversation will be a forum to discuss and debate the best ideas for tackling America's greatest challenges.
From noted the unique opportunity that Democrats have this year to lead the nation with new ideas. "2008 presents Democrats with an incredible opportunity: the chance to build an enduring political and governing majority with control of both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue and a majority of statehouses and mayoralties across the country," said From. "To take full advantage of that opportunity, we will need to offer bold and innovative ideas for tackling the big challenges facing our nation and to govern effectively once in office. That will be the focus of this year's National Conversation in Chicago. Elected Democrats from all levels of government will compare notes about ideas that work and how to put them into action."
Chicago's own Mayor Richard Daley spoke about the exchange of ideas which the Conversation will bring to the city. "For 12 years, the Democratic Leadership Council has been providing public officials, national leaders and interested citizens with innovative and straightforward ideas for moving our nation forward. I'm proud and happy that the DLC will be bringing its annual conference to our city later this summer," Daley said. "I look forward to participating in that conference and offering some of the ideas and programs we have pursued that might help other urban areas. I know that other members of our community -- from business, labor and academia -- will be eager to participate, as well."
Rep. Emanuel added, "As we continue to work for change in Washington, we are reminded that good policy makes good politics. The hundreds of national, state and local leaders who will attend this year's DLC National Conversation in Chicago will be sharing the lessons they've learned from their successes in solving some of the greatest challenges that face our nation."
Chicago was chosen to host the 2008 DLC National Conversation because of its unique position on the national political stage. It is the largest city in the Midwest -- a region that may well serve as the battleground that chooses the next president. Both Democratic presidential candidates have roots in Chicago: Senator Barack Obama represents Illinois in the Senate; Senator Hillary Clinton was born and raised in the city's suburbs. Today, Chicago faces a microcosm of the challenges which national leaders will need to tackle in the months and years to come: keeping Americans safe; ensuring we can compete and win in the global economy; creating a hybrid economy; promoting families and values; holding government accountable; and ending poverty for all who work.
The National Conversation is the DLC's premier annual conference, bringing together hundreds of elected officials from across the country to compare notes, exchange ideas and discuss innovative governing strategies. Last year, the DLC hosted more than 300 elected officials in Nashville, Tenn., and expects hundreds to join them this summer in the Windy City.

That's definitely it. I have totally confused you with a Clinton supporter.
Democrats vs. Democrats
Editor - I served in President Bill Clinton's administration from 1993-1995 as senior speechwriter for HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros. I am appalled by Sen. Hillary Clinton's repeated insinuations that presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain is better qualified to be commander in chief than Sen. Barack Obama.
I have never before heard a Democratic presidential candidate suggest that their Democratic rival was less qualified to serve as president than a prospective Republican opponent. Drawing sharp comparisons between herself and Sen. Obama is acceptable "hardball" politics. But by implying that Sen. Obama's credentials are inferior to Sen. McCain's, Sen. Clinton has crossed the line between acceptable and scurrilous behavior. ...full opinion: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...

The VP game
Editor - Hillary Clinton just offered Barack Obama a seat at the back of the bus, in Mississippi of all places. Unfortunately for Clinton, Obama is in the driver's seat.

People had never been told what “the power you have” should be used FOR. Apparently it was meant to be used to elect next in a row “professional leader”….lol, who most likely going to end with the next in a row a-le Spitzer incident or somewhat similar (and that’s only if we are lucky enough…not to have another war).
Power usually is been taken by leader(s) only. If People feel they can’t be such a leader(s) they won’t take it, but will yield it to someone else on whom they can hope.
Notice how fast the NY repugs are circling Spitz to impeach him.
Notice how fast the US dems are circling putz to continue his foreign policy.
I guess having sex is more grievous than killing millions of people.
Might it not be a bit naive to continue thinking that we have a 2 party system and that our cands are actually not of that same one party that is allow putz to ravage the world?

watching the entire osmand family on oprah
what a blast from the past. altho my parents told me about them. LOL.
I like what Markos has to say about the SUSA numbers in PA. Hillary needs to keep her numbers about where they are and defeat Obama by those numbers.
This is what ticks me off with the MSM. Obama comes from 20-30 points behind in most cases. So, rather than Obama having to beat Clinton in PA - she must perform roughly where she is currently in the polls - or she has failed. I like it.
linda b - My dd is disgusting this season - I was just posting the poll.
Tom LOL. Actually that was fairly amusing - a spoof which took me a few minutes to get.
That said, I still don't understand the hatred toward her...the talk of monster. Geez, Michelle talks about wanting to scratch out Bill's eyes and nobody says a peep about that.
It'a all distraction.
8 of our own were killed yesterday. How many maimed? How many Iraqis killed and maimed?
Who owns/controls our media? Follow the money.
John wrote: "'You have the power' turned out to be an empty slogan."
I find this to be the most crabbed view possible of the movement created by Dean and the philosophy behind it. Anyone who fairly viewed a snapshot of the political landscape back in 2002 when Dean launched his tiny asterisk of a campaign, and compared it to the one we have going into the general election in 2008, of necessity, would be compelled to agree with the dramatic changes that Dean has brought about.
I understand you can be critical of the pace at which they've proceeded, and skeptical of whether they'll continue in the future, but those are separate questions.
seahsell wrote "I still don't understand the hatred toward [Clinton]...the talk of monster."
Of course that's much different than supporting her. I think what really threw me off was when you posted a link to Taylor Marsh's "100 Reasons to Support Hillary" in order to provide "some balance."
Susan quoted from the press release for the DLC's 2008 National Conversation in Chicago: "Last year, the DLC hosted more than 300 elected officials in Nashville, Tenn., and expects hundreds to join them this summer in the Windy City."
Sen. Clinton will be appearing in her leadership role as Chair of the DLC American Dream Initiative.

still following the "500 mile rule" Joe? (1+ / 0-)
Recommended by:tarheelblue
In Iowa in 2003 you were hitting on my GF in an elevator at the hotel where we (and you and Dr Dean) were staying. When she asked about your wife, you said it was OK due to the "500 mile rule", meaning if you were more than 500 miles apart, it was OK.
Still living by that rule?
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes...

Looks like the house Dems are going to roll over on FISA, something I predicted some time ago--a safe prediction.
The whole freakin system is corrupt.
At least Kucinich held off the Democratic lynch mob in Cleveland--one small victory amid the whining, whimpering collapse of the Democratic Party.

Clearly, there is a double standard within the campaigns. Barack must denounce AND reject and FIRE the offender. Clinton must just say *well, you know we both have over zealous supporters*. Nonsense.
Many Doctors, Many Tests, No Rhyme or Reason By SANDEEP JAUHAR, M.D.
I recently took care of a 50-year-old man who had been admitted to the hospital short of breath. During his monthlong stay he was seen by a hematologist, an endocrinologist, a kidney specialist, a podiatrist, two cardiologists, a cardiac electrophysiologist, an infectious-diseases specialist, a pulmonologist, an ear-nose-throat specialist, a urologist, a gastroenterologist, a neurologist, a nutritionist, a general surgeon, a thoracic surgeon and a pain specialist.
He underwent 12 procedures, including cardiac catheterization, a pacemaker implant and a bone-marrow biopsy (to work-up chronic anemia).
Despite this wearying schedule, he maintained an upbeat manner, walking the corridors daily with assistance to chat with nurses and physician assistants. When he was discharged, follow-up visits were scheduled for him with seven specialists.
This mans case, in which expert consultations sprouted with little rhyme, reason or coordination, reinforced a lesson I have learned many times since entering practice: In our health care system, where doctors are paid piecework for their services, if you have a slew of physicians and a willing patient, almost any sort of terrible excess can occur.
Though accurate data is lacking, the overuse of services in health care probably cost hundreds of billions of dollars last year, out of the more than $2 trillion that Americans spent on health.
Are we getting our moneys worth? Not according to the usual measures of public health. The United States ranks 45th in life expectancy, behind Bosnia and Jordan; near last, compared with other developed countries, in infant mortality; and in last place, according to the Commonwealth Fund, a health-care research group, among major industrialized countries in health-care quality, access and efficiency.
And in the United States, regions that spend the most on health care appear to have higher mortality rates than regions that spend the least, perhaps because of increased hospitalization rates that result in more life-threatening errors and infections. It has been estimated that if the entire country spent the same as the lowest spending regions, the Medicare program alone could save about $40 billion a year.
Overutilization is driven by many factors defensive medicine by doctors trying to avoid lawsuits; patients demands; a pervading belief among doctors and patients that newer, more expensive technology is better.
The most important factor, however, may be the perverse financial incentives of our current system.
Doctors are usually reimbursed for whatever they bill. As reimbursement rates have declined in recent years, most doctors have adapted by increasing the quantity of services. If you cut the amount of air you take in per breath, the only way to maintain ventilation is to breathe faster.
Overconsultation and overtesting have now become facts of the medical profession. The culture in practice is to grab patients and generate volume. Medicine has become like everything else, a doctor told me recently. Everything moves because of money. ...full ESSY: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/11/health...

new thread
did you notice in the Spitzer story that homeland security is now running every bank transaction through their software and that was how they got on to him
used to be an over $10,000 limit and I've run up against that a few times in my business, but now they have lowered it to just run everything through so they can spot "suspicious activity"
next they will be selling the info to McDonalds that Burger King is having a hit with the new sandwich and adding that "financial service" to the GDP

Thanks for the work you are doing, and I'll comment more, once I've gone through everything.
