The Democratic Party represents the values we need!
The country is clearly heading in a bad way. From the economy to our reliance on foreign oil, a lowering of the standard of living. We must energize and try to act on the ideas we need to right our way. The Democrats can lead the country back to prosperity.
Dean is first.
Early March 4 Exit Poll results:
"The surveys for The Associated Press and television networks found self-described independents were about one in five voters in Ohio's Democratic primary, one in four in Texas, a third in Rhode Island and four in 10 in Vermont."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/feedarticle/7357779
20% independent voters in Ohio
25% in Texas
33% in Rhode Island
40% in Vermont

I took an exit poll today. The choices were Dem, Rep, Indy, or Other. The Progressive Party was not a choice so I chose Other. I wonder if they counted the Others with the Indys...
Polls close in VT in 7 minutes!
Anybody know what happened to Kos? Did they get hacked or forget to pay their Internet bill?
CNN projects Obama has won VT!
Not paying much attention to these pundits all pretending to have crystal balls tonight.
Senator Bill Nelson was on the Senate floor again today badmouthing the DNC and explaining the big problems in Florida -- as if the other senators didn't already know about them. Nelson blamed all the problems on the DNC.
Surprise! Obama wins Vermont! Kudos to all you DFAers up there helping his cause along.
bbl
KOS is up and reporting the Obama win in VT
Way to go Barack - if the Vermonters want you, that's plenty good for me.
w00t!!
Hi all.
Linda in NM, this is a quote from your myDD link:
"We can argue whether her words were well-chosen and whether she should be advancing arguments against Obama in the primary that McCain can use against him in the general if he's the nominee, I get that, but the idea that this is somehow Clinton betraying Democrats and expressing a preference for the Republican over the Democrat is ridiculous."
We certainly can and will argue that she is advancing arguments against her own party. It's as plain as it can be. I am not a Hillary-basher here. She crossed a line. Big-time.
oh, great news, Denise:)
Dems win w/absentee balloting.
Already cast weeks in advance.
Voting is pragmatic. Nuts-n-bolts.
Esp. w/inexperienced & infrequent unenrolled voters & new (young) voters.
And persons of color (lower SES folks w/shift work/children//disenfranchised).
They drive along, see lines, and go home.
Rethugs are more disciplined.
Esp. in nasty weather, when attempting to elect a more progressive candidate.
Once precincts close, it's another headache--too late to vote.
You can still socialize while being a poll warden/watcher, Reed.
And hit the pub afterwards, too.
Older retired voters have time to fritter away; and have a routine when they vote (those Hillary women).
It's how we win squeaker races here; and the Rethugs have us beat (general)--Dems spend too much damned time in useless meetings/on the phone, etc.
Obama never wouldn've won ME's caucus if conveners hadn't started 1-3 hrs. late--dumb people hadn't pre-registered. Insane.
Get those votes CAST well in advance is the name of the game.
Thank you, Vermonters. You rock!!!
At Open Left they are reporting thus far TX Obama 51, Clinton 49 not including caucuses obviously. In OH Clinton 51, Obama 49. Squeaker. And tight in OH.
Hi everyone - I have to leave to go to a welcome home surprise party :( But I'll follow along on my phone when I can. Hope to cut out of there as early as I can.
Sending good Ohio thoughts and Texas, well all I can say is.. Yee Haw!
cChal, nicely put about crossing the line. True colors indeed.
Love how they scripted the win...
"NBC News projects 12th straight win in Democrat race for Illinois senator"
Hi,
This a quote from the Associated Press. In Ohio, the NAFTA/Canadian dirty trick is getting sway.
"NAFTA was a focus of the Ohio race.
Obama sent out mass mailings that said Clinton had supported the free trade agreement when it was passed during her husband's administration, and that he had opposed it. She angrily accused him of distorting her record.
But roles were reversed in the campaign's final hours after a memo surfaced in which a Canadian official described a meeting in which Obama's senior economic adviser was said to have described the Illinois senator's criticisms of the trade agreement as political positioning.
Clinton said Obama had given a "wink-wink" to Canada on the issue.
Obama said, "Nobody reached out to the Canadians to try to assure them of anything."
Have fun, Denise!
This is poetic justice. Vermont may have indeed indeed ended Hillary tonight. Per Marc Ambinder.
Love you Vermonters!!!!!

My daughter is torn between Middlebury College and Dartmouth College. Would love to be visiting her in New England. She'll make her decision within a couple of weeks.
Hi All-- I am going crazy here with agatha. We did calls to texas today for Obama. It went terribly. we are soooo nervous.
We are also upset to see that progections aren't at this point HUGE margins in favor of Obama in Vermont. We expected him to win by 70% .... O.K. calm down, we will see....
ok so this weird not in order commenting problem is STILL HAPPENING!!!!! geez
Breaking News... Holding open polls in Sandusky, Ohio until 9:00 p.m.
mary vb....little ivy or big ivy. No choice is a bad one there!
So reporters have started to get tough on Obama, huh?
When are then going to start to get tough on Bush/Cheney??
Habeus Corpus? Signing statements? Gay hookers in the White House?
Ohio lookin' grim -- I tole you that Canada Nafta story had legs.
The early numbers from Ohio are expected. Rural areas. Big cities have not reported. Remember Missouri.
BREAKING NEWS: Ballot shortages reported in some Ohio precincts; polls stay open late
Festival on PBS has James Taylor in concert in Pittsfield MA and brought back fond memories or my visit to New England and Deanfest, spent a night in Brattleboro and enjoyed the shops on my way to the Berkshires,Reed. When you warm up Jessica post a link to Dulles and maybe Rich can give another restaurant review while we wait for results.
The early lead for Clinton has 0% reporting... that's how early it is. All the polls don't close until 9:00 p.m. EST.
That should have been, the early lead for Clinton in Ohio...
Also, Cleveland has been extended - that's an Obama stronghold. I still think OH will go to Hillary by a few percentage points. She did not meet her polling expectations, folks!
TX looks good for Obama. Yeh!!!!!!!
Brattleboro, VT passed their resolution to arrest Bush and Cheney if they enter the city limits :-)
Habeus Corpus? Signing statements? Gay hookers in the White House?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and the clone McCain
Obama hqs request some counties in Ohio to remain open. Am I being overly optimistic, or does this look like they think they have a chance in Ohio?
From D Kos. Early and Absentee voting.
Tarrant County:
B: 50,000+
HRC: 35,000+
Travis County:
BO: 63,000
HRC: 33,000
Dallas County
BO: 81,000
HRC: 41,000
Please, Texas, give a victory to Barack -- that way the Clintonista's CANNOT spin tonight to their advantage.
Every network is showing 700,000 votes counted in Texas, 56-43 Obamab. But they all report this is wiith 1% reporting. this is total BS , if 700,00 vote is 1% that would mean 70,000,000 votes were cast. There are only 280,000,000 millions americans total. This is ridiculous but all of the networks have it wrong.
HOLY SMOKES: Just in from TX - one million more people voted for Dems in this primrary than in the election for Kerry.
Too much to add - so PLEASE read. w00t.
Oh and thank goodness for Rachel Maddow and Keith. Keith and that bell is cracking me up. I'm getting sick of hearing Scarborough (who I actually like) and Pat talk about Hillary's resurgence. GAG
Update [2008-3-4 19:12:24 by Jonathan Singer]: The key number in Vermont seems to me 64 percent. If Obama can get about 64 percent in Vermont tonight, the delegate spread would be 10 to 5 rather than 9 to 6 -- a net gain of 2 delegates for Obama. I don't think Obama will be able to hit 70 percent, which would yield an 11 to 4 spread, but if he could hit that 64 percent mark it could potentially mean that Obama would net as many delegates from Vermont as Clinton will from Ohio
new thread
Tell her to go w/Middlebury.
Dartmouth is upper crust & more Rethug.
Middlebury has its rich trust fund puppies, but they're moreso laid back.
She'll pay for the same education (classes taken/degree earned), but be slammed w/more Stafford Loan debt.
Hey Linda in NM, Richardson is a whore. But you knew that. And get rid of the beard. You look worse than usual. ( no Linda, not u. Bill)
Hey Phil,
The next time you're passing thru this area...please be sure to give me a jingle (April/early May excellent for walleyes).
I'm proud of me fellow free thinking Vermonters...only wish the rest of the country would follow suit. Watching the polls and hoping for that 64% but don't think it'll happen. Still too many racists lurking about. I'm also dreading that Hillary will drag the party down in her pursuit of the oval office. Tonight I talked to the one responsible for all the Hillary signs in our area. Something wasn't right...I felt very uneasy talking with this fellow Democrat...like I was the enemy.
Jessica Falker 37...
I've always like Brattleboro!
Anybody have news elsewhere in southern Vermont (Wyndham County/Wilmington/Dover/Newfane)?
CLINTON ON THE SMEAR TRAIL - CHARGES BUT NO EVIDENCE
From NBC's Mark Murray
In an extraordinary Clinton conference call -- in which the campaign alleged irregularities in the Texas caucuses -- the top lawyer for the Obama campaign (Bob Bauer) jumped on the call during the Q&A session to rebut the Clinton camp's charges....
Minutes later, the Clinton campaign pointed out that Bauer never refuted the actual charges of irregularities in Texas.
It's also worth noting that the campaign cited irregularities in precincts 18 and 24 in Harris County (regarding the seizure of precinct chairman materials), as well as precincts 1851 and 75 in the same country (regarding Clinton supporters being locked out). But the campaign offered no evidence beyond that.
