What Do You Want in a Nominee?

Written by: DFA Staff on Mar 3, 2008 1:00 PM EST

McClatchy reporter David Lightman takes a look at the difference of supporters of Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama in Ohio:

The outcome of Tuesday's Ohio presidential primary will come down to whether the Vickie Smiths will turn out in bigger numbers than the Sina Ingolds.

Smith, a 53-year-old nurse from Waverly, barely paid attention to politics before Barack Obama exploded into the national consciousness. Today, she's so taken with the Illinois senator that one of her birthday presents was a ticket to a Democratic fundraiser where Obama spoke.

Ingold, 71, has struggled all her life. The Malaga caregiver grew up in a house that had no electricity until she was 21, and later worked milking cows and in an aluminum plant and a sewing factory to make a living. She's a Hillary Clinton fan, saying that the New York senator understands why and how government will help those who need it.

Ingold wants experience. Smith wants change. Ohio is torn.

Ex-Peace Corps volunteers to return to Sierra Leone

By Dean Wong

Friday, February 29, 2008

Sierra Leone may be thousands of miles from Seattle, but two Ballard residents have made it their mission as volunteers, to help that country re-develop.

Dan Lavin first went to Sierra Leone as a Peace Corps volunteer from 1988 until 1990. Back in Seattle he met Cindy Nofziger and learned she was a Peace Corps volunteer in Sierra Leone from 1985 to 1987.

Both have made an impact on the country, which went through a civil war resulting from a conflict in neighboring country Liberia from the late 1990s through 2002. "During the war, government agencies, relief groups and the Peace Corps pulled out," said Lavin.

He is going back this month. Nofziger is also returning to Sierra Leone in a separate trip.

Hunting terrorists from the sky is a form of terrorism for those civilians living in the vicinity and innocently struck in the cross-fire.

Morally, it makes us no better than the terrorists we are trying to hit - and every innocent victim hit creates another terrorist.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that.

Absolutely, Dean as VP.  No one else is even close.  Count me in. Now's the chance for BO people who have said they like Dean to put some pressure on BO.

And it looks like the Hillary story about destroying Dean and the 50 stater has been debunked...

And Phil, with all respect, HC has categorically stated in the last debate that she regrets that war vote or some such words.

Then there's that NAFTA/Canadian story.

As for people not voting for BO becuz they think he's a Muslim........they shouldn't be voting at all if they're so uninformed. Please stop blaming HC for everything.  Many voters simply don't pay attention to the truth or only listen to soundbytes.  I would say that the vast number of people who've been voting for BO or HC are vastly uninformed, naive and easy prey for the soundbyte and crowd mentality.  JMO

****************************

As for seashell, there's nothing "against" her. Just intolerance for attacks from the gutter.

This confuses me.  Who's intolerant?  Who's attacking from the gutter?  Who posted this?:-)  I can't keep up with all the sniping and blaming and denying and such.

More nasty stuff will come out about BO, guarantee it.  As I opined, he's trying to be all things to all people, telling them what they want to hear, rather than his inner truth about what he really wants, thinks and feels. That's what separates him from Howard in a huge way.  Biden, Gravel, Kucinich, Nader, Gore and Edwards also talked their inner truth  with warm hearts.  They speak from their hearts. BO speaks from his brain.  He knows how to use words and he's a master at using them to manipulate mob thinking and feeling.  Credit where credit is due...IMO...no need to diss me.

For all the flap about HC dissing Dean, ya'll may be surprised to discover that it's Mr. BO who might diss him.(as he's already done)  Friends one day, enemies that next. That's what I dislike about politics.  It divides and blames and twists and distorts and blackens the soul.

We shall see.

Just curious, Seashell, how could you possibly know whether or not someone is speaking from the heart?

I caught a listen on NPR this morning of Hillary Clinton mocking Barack Obama again.  I dislike that kind of thing so much.  Maybe it's because it reminds me of middle school/junior high.  Mockery does nothing to convince.  It's a bullying mentality, and if Hillary is to be our president, I shudder at the maturity level her mockery represents.

Yet, I acknowledge that what for me is mockery may be humor or satire to someone else.  That's the thing about politics, it's a power game, and people put their own feelings, perosnalities, and syles onto the candidates.

And just to be contrary, no, not really, I don't think Howard Dean should be vice president.  A cabinet position where he is the boss, and where he can use his great talents, compassion, and prescience would be far better for him (probably since he's an alpha type) and for us.  For instance, if he were to head health and human service, we might actually get a universal health care policy.  Certainly Hillary'[s authoritariansim and her secrecy and willingness to punish dissenters didn't advance the cause of universal health care.

Now off to some work.

For Workers Strikes Against the War!

In a major step for the U.S. labor movement, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has announced that it will shut down West Coast ports on May 1, to demand an immediate end to the war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Middle East. This is the first time in decades that an American union has decided to undertake industrial action against a U.S. war. The action announced by the powerful West Coast dock workers union, to stop work to stop the war, should be taken up by unions and labor organizations throughout the United States and internationally. And the purpose of such actions should be not to beg the bourgeois politicians whose hands are covered with blood, having voted for every war budget for six and a half years, but a show of strength of the working people who make this country run, and who can shut it down!
For Workers Strikes Against the War!
ILWU to Shut Down West Coast Ports May 1 Demanding End to War in Iraq, Afghanistan

In a February 22 letter to AFL-CIO president John Sweeney, ILWU International president Robert McEllrath reported that at a recent coast-wide union meeting, “One of the resolutions adopted by caucus delegates called on longshore workers to stop work during the day shift on May 1, 2008 to express their opposition to the war in Iraq.”

This is the first time in decades that an American union has decided to undertake industrial action against a U.S. war. It is doubly important that this mobilization of labor’s power is to take place on May Day, the international workers day, which is not honored in the U.S. Moreover, the resolution voted by the ILWU delegates opposes not only the hugely unpopular war in Iraq, but also the war and occupation of Afghanistan (which Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and Republican John McCain all want to expand). The motion to shut down the ports also demands the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the entire region, including the oil sheikdoms of the strategically important Persian/Arab Gulf.

The Internationalist Group has fought from the moment U.S. troops invaded Afghanistan in September 2002 for American unions to strike against the war. Despite the fact that millions have marched in the streets of Europe and the United States against the war in Iraq, the war goes on. Neither of the twin war parties of U.S. imperialism – Democrats and Republicans – and none of the capitalist candidates will stop this horrendous slaughter that has already killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. The only way to stop the Pentagon killing machine is by mobilizing the power of a greater force – that of the international working class.

The action announced by the powerful West Coast dock workers union, to stop work to stop the war, should be taken up by unions and labor organizations throughout the United States and internationally. The ILWU should be commended for courageously taking the first step, and it is up to working people everywhere to back them up. Wherever support is strong enough, on May 1 there should be mass walkouts, sick-outs, labor marches, plant-gate meetings, lunch-time rallies, teach-ins. And the purpose of such actions should be not to beg the bourgeois politicians whose hands are covered with blood, having voted for every war budget for six and a half years, but a show of strength of the working people who make this country run, and who can shut it down! ...full article: http://www.opednews.com/maxwrite/diarypa...

Barack's Campaign manager David Plouffe...

"There are 611 pledged delegates left after March 4th’s contests. They would need to win at least 62% of all remaining pledged delegates to get back to even. And while they have often talked about Pennsylvania – where public polls show their lead deteriorating rapidly – the Wyoming caucuses on March 8th and Mississippi primary or March 11th could potentially result in more pledged delegates netted to the winner than on March 4th."

Now one of Clinton’s laws of politics is this: If one candidate’s trying to scare you and the other one’s trying to get you to think, if one candidate’s appealing to your fears and the other one’s appealing to your hopes, you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope.

Who Controls the Federal Reserve System?

The Federal Reserve System is divided into two parts: the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, located in Washington DC, and the Federal Reserve District Banks, located throughout the United States. Here is the official website of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors:

If you examine this page, you will see that there are five members of the Board of Governors. You will also see that all five(5) of the board members are Jewish! This is a numerical representation of 100%! Why is this important? It’s important because Jews only constitute about 2% of the United States population. So the odds against all five members of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors being Jewish are astronomical. Here are the five members of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors:

Benjamin S. Bernanke - Jewish
Donald L. Kohn - Jewish
Kevin M. Warsh - Jewish
Randall S. Kroszner - Jewish
Frederic S. Mishkin - Jewish

Now, if you examine the presidents of the twelve Federal Reserve District Banks, you will discover a similar pattern of Jewish over-representation. Here is the section of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors’ website that lists the twelve Federal Reserve District Banks along with their respective presidents:

If you examine this section, you will see that there are twelve Federal Reserve Bank presidents. You will also see that nine(9) of the twelve presidents are Jewish! This is a numerical representation of 75%! Again, this is important because Jews only comprise about 2% of the United States population, so the odds against nine of the twelve Federal Reserve Bank presidents being Jewish are mind boggling. Here are the twelve presidents of the Federal Reserve District Banks:

FRB of Boston: Eric S. Rosengren - Jewish
FRB of New York: Timothy F. Geithner - Jewish
FRB of Philadelphia: Charles I. Plosser - Jewish
FRB of Richmond: Jeffrey M. Lacker - Jewish
FRB of St. Louis: William Poole - Jewish
FRB of Minneapolis: Gary H. Stern - Jewish
FRB of Kansas City: Thomas M. Hoenig - Jewish
FRB of Dallas: Richard W. Fisher - Jewish
FRB of San Francisco: Janet L. Yellen - Jewish
FRB of Cleveland: Sandra Pianalto - gentile
FRB of Atlanta: Dennis P. Lockhart - gentile
FRB of Chicago: Charles L. Evans - gentile

This extreme numerical over-representation of Jews among the members of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the Federal Reserve District Bank presidents cannot be explained away as a coincidence or as the result of mere random chance. You must ask yourself how it could be that such an incredibly small ethnic minority that only represents about 2% of the American population could have control over the monetary system of the United States, and thereby control over the entire economic activity of the nation.

Karen quoted Obama campaign manager David Plouffe on pledged delegates.

Getting pledged delegates from the primaries can't be part of Clinton's strategy for winning the nomination at this point.  They will be hoping to deny victories to Obama in the upcoming contests in order to end his 11 contest streak, tarnish his image as the party's certain candidate, and reverse the current flow of his momentum.  This will permit them to argue that Clinton's victories have come in the states that matter to Democrats and lobby for the superdelegates who will base their selection on who, she'll contend, best represents the party's agenda and gives it the best chance for a victory in November.

Tom~ There is nothing left. The party seems to like Barack's fresh approach at bringing people together which doesn't bode well for her chances.

"WASHINGTON - Top supporters of Senator Barack Obama, joined by at least one prominent Democrat yet to endorse a candidate, put pressure on Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on Sunday to bow out of the presidential race unless she scores clear victories in the crucial big-state primary contests on Tuesday.

“I just think that D-Day is Tuesday,” said Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico, a former Democratic presidential candidate who has yet to throw his support behind either candidate.

And two Obama supporters, Senators John Kerry and Dick Durbin, pushed for Mrs. Clinton to withdraw if she does poorly at the polls on Tuesday."

FRED - thanks again for that info! I wish I lived in Santa Cruz though it's not that far away. That would be my dream - be a beachbum at the boardwalk and maybe sell snow cones for pocket money once I retire. 9 yrs and counting......

"Clinton will go on to Pennsylvania"

We shall see, Phil. I wouldn't count on it regardless how it turns out tomorrow with one exception, that being if she wins both by huge numbers.

Clinton: 'I'm Just Getting Warmed Up"

Democratic Hopeful Vows To Stay In Race

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) ― Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton suggested Monday she'll press on with the campaign after Tuesday's crucial primaries, arguing that momentum is on her side despite 11 straight losses to rival Sen. Barack Obama.

"I'm just getting warmed up," Clinton told reporters, looking ahead to a busy day of campaign events in Ohio and Texas where polls show a close race ahead of Tuesday's primaries.

I presume she is  believing she can still steal this election somehow with the help of her DLC friends and super delegates. Very unrealistic.

Good one, Audrey, tho I'd like Carol-Mosley Brown.

Hope...BO supporters (He's one of those unknown knowns that are unknown..LOL)

Fear  ..HC haters  (hate is fear, if you examine it - so are attacks)

I'm with Audrey.  Let's have s/o who represents TRUTH

Dean for VP.  A cabinet position would be good but only if the VP choice is a fabulous one...now who would that be besides Dean?

Both have high negatives, again thanks to Audrey's succinct phrasing.

************************

Pat, that's a good question for which there is no logical answer.  Maybe it has to do with emotional intelligence or intuition and maybe I'm FOS.  I do know that the 5 senses often deceive us and that humans are thought to have a number of other senses...

Yeah, I'll let him bait me just this once, then I'll scroll him.

DANIEL ROONEY #35, re Jewish leaders of the Federal Reserve:
Let's look at this from an even bigger perspective.

Global population is now approximately 6.5 billion. Global Jewish population is approximately 13 million, or 0.2% of the total. So what are the odds of......

Between 1901 and 2007, 176 Jews and half-Jews have been awarded the Nobel Prize. This accounts for 23% of total recipients and 37% of all US recipients.

Here's a breakdown:

* Chemistry (29 prize winners, 19% of world total, 28% of US total)
* Economics (25 prize winners, 41% of world total, 55% of US total)
* Literature (13 prize winners, 13% of world total, 27% of US total)
* Peace (9 prize winners, 9% of world total, 10% of US total)3
* Physics (47 prize winners, 26% of world total, 38% of US total)
* Physiology or Medicine (53 prize winners, 28% of world total, 41% of US total)

Besides Nobel prizes, there are also:

* Jewish Recipients of the US National Medal of Science (166 recipients, 38% of total)
* Jewish Recipients of the Kyoto Prize (26% of recipients)

What accounts for this? There aren't any Jews on the committee that grants the Nobels. So are Jews genetically brainer than Gentiles? Probably not. Maybe they're more concerned with working hard to better themselves than they are with wearing tinfoil hats and looking for conspiracies.

So please do us a favor and STFU.

Welcome back, Daniel.   He posted some facts, so let's not jump on the wagon and start hurling epitaphs, OK?   I haven't done any searching yet, but I'd like to know how many of the people named are AIPAC members.

It takes courage to risk, as we saw with the trashing of Jimmy Carter and his book.

...This extreme numerical over-representation of Jews among the members of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the Federal Reserve District Bank presidents cannot be explained away as a coincidence or as the result of mere random chance.

DANIEL ROONEY,

Anti-semitic comments such as these are unacceptable at BFA.  Do not post hate filled comments or you will be deleted from the blog.  Thank you.

I won't hurl an epitaph because, to the best of my knowledege, the principles all remain alive, but I thought the juxtaposed comments did deserve some solemn reflection.

what stirred my heart and my hopes with Howard Dean's campaign wasn't just Howard, it was the people he inspired.  you and me and so so many others.  it would bring tears to my eyes to hear that strong swell of excitement and dedication from the crowd and has brought tears to my eyes many times since, I guess in mourning for what might have been.  but Howard didn't settle for 'trying' - he stuck with it and with us and today just a short 4 years later Obama is here renewing the cry that WE are the ones we've been waiting for.

I just had my first cry during this campaign - I hear the same thing in Obama's rallies that I heard in Dean's.  and you can call me a sheeple, but it does give me hope.
