Log Cabin Republicans in Texas
The Dallas Morning News reports on the effort of the Dallas Log Cabin Republicans to change the Texas Republican Party Platform stance on homosexuality:
The Log Cabin Republicans’ attempt to amend the Texas Republican Party Platform — a 31-page document articulating the official stance on a variety of issues — begins Tuesday, when the party conducts “precinct conventions” at primary election voting stations after polls have closed.
Evidently, the Platform is filled with mentions of homosexuality and even devotes a whole section to the subject:
The Texas Republican Party Platform, passed in 2006, references homosexuality numerous times throughout its 31 pages and includes a section on the issue:
“Homosexuality: We believe that the practice of sodomy tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases

Obama's "bottom-up" should make more money in February than Dean's did in 14 months - about $60 million
I just had a thought on McCain and his Canal Zone birth. Maybe 'they' are overlooking his birth outside of US states b/c it is after all a technicality so when (and I think it's when not if) Arnie runs, 'they' can say 'well, McCain ran and he wasn't born in US, etc, etc'
On McLaughlin Group tonight the black guy from Ohio and McLaughlin predicted Hillary will win both TX and OH. Everyone else said it will be Obama in TX and Hill in OH.

Fact Check on Inaccurate Reports Regarding Obama's Position on NAFTA and Canada
FEBRUARY 28, 2008
Canadian Embassy Has Denied The Report. "A spokesman for the Canadian Embassy to the United States, Tristan Landry, flatly denied the CTV report that a senior Obama aide had told the Canadian ambassador not to take seriously Obama's denunciations of Nafta. 'None of the presidential campaigns have called either the Ambassador or any of the officials here to raise Nafta,' Landry said. He said there had been no conversations at all on the subject. 'We didn't make any calls, they didn't call us,' Landry said. 'There is no story as far as we’re concerned,' he said." [Politico, 2/28/08]
“The news reports on Obama's position on NAFTA are inaccurate and in no way represent Senator Obama’s consistent position on trade. When Senator Obama says that he will forcefully act to make NAFTA a better deal for American workers, he means it. Both Canada and Mexico should know that, as president, Barack Obama will do what it takes to create and protect American jobs and strengthen the American economy -- that includes amending NAFTA to include labor and environmental standards. We are currently reaching out to the Canadian embassy to correct this inaccuracy,” said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.

Key Words dirty hands - moral emotions - regret - remorse - tragic-remorse
Abstract
This paper outlines and defends a notion of lsquotragic-remorsersquo. This moral emotion properly accompanies those actions that involve unavoidable moral wrongdoing in general and dirty hands scenarios in particular. Tragic-remorse differs both phenomenologically and conceptually from regret, agent-regret and remorse. By recognising the existence of tragic-remorse, we are better able to account for our complex moral reality which at times makes it necessary for good persons to act in ways that although justified leave the agent with a moral stain and a particular emotional response.

Political Skills or Lying and Manipulation? The Choreography of the Northern Ireland Peace Process
ABSTRACT
The real war and propaganda war fought over Northern Ireland for thirty years polarised party and public opinion. In the late eighties a faction of leading republicans realised that the conflict with the British State had reached a stalemate. The problem remained how a united republican movement could be persuaded to enter into a peace process and accept a settlement that fell far short of its expectations which had been bid up in the propaganda war. The ‘pan-nationalist front’ (the Irish Government, the SDLP and the US Government) and the British Government attempted to smooth the path for this republican faction. The British in particular, were also concerned that these efforts should not alienate unionists with the result that only nationalists and republicans would end up at the negotiating table. This article describes the ‘political skills and choreography’ (or lies and deceptions) by which governments and parties attempted to wind down the real and propaganda war and bring unionists and nationalists to agreement. It concludes by raising questions about the morality and effectiveness of employing such political skills.

"They're pretty down on Britney and Paris and all of that. They think that's very `yuck,'" he said.
As for his wife, Michelle, Obama said she has a star crush on Stevie Wonder.
"I've been teasing her because Stevie fell off the stage at one of our events," Obama said. "I said to her, `This is your favorite performer, and you push him off the stage?' Fortunately, he was OK."
The Illinois senator described himself as a "pretty cool" dad who tries not to embarrass his daughters even when he's dancing on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," as he did in October.
Though campaigning keeps him away from his family, Obama hasn't skipped a parent-teacher conference.

cC, seashell, re Gonzalez allegations, I quote:
"By contrast, Senators Clinton, Edwards and Kerry joined 23 others to vote against CAFA, noting the “reform” was a thinly-veiled “special interest extravaganza” that favored banking, creditors and other corporate interests."
Seeing as how CAFA was a 2005 bill, I find this little piece of information fascinating, lol! Would appear that our friend Gonzalez is either not too swift, or not too honest. . . .

UPDATE: CTV continues to stand firm with their original reporting this evening. Note the final words in this report. Obama may have a lot of explaining to do on Friday.
ABC News' Jennifer Parker spoke to Goolsbee, a University of Chicago economics professor, Thursday who would not confirm or deny that he had a conversation with Georges Rioux, the Canadian Consulate General in Chicago. Rioux, in meetings this week in Ottawa, would also neither confirm nor deny any conversation took place. Both men did say that they know each other.

"Obama Supporter Jesse Jackson, Jr: Black Super-Delegates Who Back Hillary Could Face Primary Challenge
By Greg Sargent - February 15, 2008, 11:01AM
A black supporter of Hillary, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, has given an interview in which he sheds light on some pretty interesting efforts by Obama supporter Jesse Jackson, Jr., to privately persuade him to rethink his support of Clinton:
In an interview, Cleaver offered a glimpse of private conversations.
He said Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois had recently asked him "if it comes down to the last day and you're the only superdelegate? ... Do you want to go down in history as the one to prevent a black from winning the White House?
"I told him I'd think about it," Cleaver concluded.

AND
Black backers steadfast for Clinton
By: Josephine Hearn
February 29, 2008 05:56 PM EST
African-American superdelegates said Thursday that they’ll stand up against threats, intimidation and “Uncle Tom” smears rather than switch their support from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to Sen. Barack Obama.
"“This is the politics of the 1950s,” he complained. “A lot of members are experiencing a lot of ugly stuff. They’re not going to talk about it, but it’s happening.”
After civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) switched his support from Clinton to Obama earlier this week, other black superdelegates have come under renewed pressure to do a similar about-face. A handful have bowed to the entreaties in recent weeks, including Georgia Rep. David Scott, but many say they are steadfast in their support for Clinton and resent strong-arm tactics to make them change.
Rep. Diane E. Watson (D-Calif.), a black lawmaker and Clinton backer, said the intense lobbying for Obama would not alter her vote.
“I’ve gotten threatening mail,” Watson said. “They say, ‘Your district went 61-29 Obama and you need to change.’ But I don’t intimidate. I can hold the ground. … I would lose my seat over my principles.”

A journey through Hesse is like time travel through the architecture of the ages, from medieval castles to post-modern industrial design, each with monuments of global significance. Many of Hesse's medieval towns and villages charm the visitor with an air of idyllic romance. The key religious centres, such as Fulda and Limburg, are adorned with impressive churches and cathedrals. You can enjoy a meal at many of the monasteries, where you will see evidence of their historically powerful influence on the political, cultural and social development of the regions in Hesse. Numerous castles unveil the fascinating world and lifestyle of royalty and nobility. Lovers of contemporary design will be equally rewarded in Hesse, with buildings - not only in the City of Frankfurt - that will find their place in architectural history. Shopping galleries, museums and factories are challenges that have been mastered by internationally renowned architects.
Important chapters of valuable history of the European Continent were written in this State. Nobility built castles along the rivers and people lived behind ramparts and
walls of medieval cities. The Church owned influential abbeys. This area promises charming towns with timber-framed buildings, Germany's highest fortified tower and the wilderness area of the Orke Valley south of Lake Edersee. Hesse is the state in which the fabled forests of the Grimm brothers' fairy tales exist. Between Hanau and Sababurg Castle is 185 mile trail through Rheinhardswald Forest where Sleeping Beauty, according to legend awaited the prince to wake her from slumber. Along a 31 mile stretch, more than twenty castles and residences of local aristocracy can be seen as one winds through vineyards and across ridges with fantastic views. Situated in the heart of Germany, here one finds apple wine, active vacations and opportunity to experience nature in a land of fairy tales.

The CTV exclusive also reported that sources said the Clinton campaign has made indirect contact with the Canadian government, trying to reassure Ottawa of their support despite Clinton's words. The Clinton camp denied the claim. The story caught the attention of Republican front-runner John McCain on Thursday.

Maybe that CTV reports 2nd confirmation from the Ambassador confirming date and whom, Austan Goolsbee, from the Obama campaign that discussed the NAFTA talk being only "campaign rhetoric" and the, as they put it, "a similar but lower level indirect claim of Clinton, with no name" and that Clinton gave full authority to release the name, which they haven't, considering they know they they have no name to give.
McCain blog? Wow, that would explain alot.
Yes, Thankful. Since you've mentioned it, Renee did die a year ago. Was it yesterday, a year ago? I think she said so.
I met Renee. He was dieing, but alive and alert when I first met him. I was blessed, from what I gather: he was very ill. I was clueless, but what else is new: I am my mother's son!

It must be tough for the Clintons to get "out-clintoned" when it comes to rapid response.
Linda, I love you, I really do. But you're never gonna convince me that Hill and her Hubby have EVER been anything but anathema for any Democrat that ever cared about the party. They have been trying to destroy what it stands for/stood for all my life for going on 20 years now.
ypuddle, re: you're never gonna convince me that Hill and her Hubby have EVER been anything but anathema
ditto. and they make it clearer every day.
... "I know Hillary. I have talked to her personally," Dean said. "I have nothing against her. She is knowledgeable. She's smart. She knows what she's doing. But this is a new wave. It's a new day. It's a new time. And the people have heard the same old promises. They don't know if Obama can deliver. But at least they want to give him a try."
Dean, who has worked in local politics for four-plus decades explained.
"That's the movement," she said. "That's the hope. And he didn't coin that phrase. The people who heard him, who listened to him, they found that. He brings hope to the people of the country. That's why they jumped on his bandwagon. That's why they believe his message. And so, whereas I'm old and maybe should be thinking in the past, I am for progress. I am for the future, for my children, grand-children, great-grand children. I want it better than it used to be."
let me re-post the link to that article - and I see what I did - I didn't include the intro that gave her full name - here it is:
...Indeed, as Dorothy Dean, a longtime political organizer in Dallas who ran Bill Clinton's presidential campaigns in the southern part of that city and delivered historic Democratic turnouts in prior elections, said in an interview Thursday, the state seems poised for an Obama victory on Tuesday, March 4 -- not because there is anything wrong with Clinton, but because Obama has touched a deeper, once-in-a-generation nerve.
But at least they want to give him a try."

http://www.alternet.org/election08/78306/
and from the same article we see the next level of Hillary's desperation:
... "Sen. Obama says if we talk about national security, we are trying to scare people," she said. "Well, I don't think Texans scare easily..."
her red phone ad didn't work out so well so she has to make it seem like he NEVER talks about national security - as if that ad of hers WASN'T intended to scare people. even the pundits thought it was a McCain/republican hit ad until the end where Hillary approves it! I'd call her a bitch but that would be an insult to female dogs.
In case anyone fell asleep at their computer, there's a new thread after this one :~)
For the same reason that I always appreciated getting ditto head talking points from Robert; I appreciate Linda stopping by and giving us the latest from the Clinton machine. If she pulls out a win in Ohio and comes close in Texas you had better be prepared to counter it in Pennsylvania, and if you don't know what it is good luck. and I have seen nothing from Linda that is a deviation of what I have seen from other sources from the Clinton team. Hillary has consistantly beat 40%, why are those supporters making that choice?

*" When a force is rhythmically applied to a structure with the same period as that of the structure, the force is said to be in resonance with it. Resonant forces do not produce large effects immediately, as impact forces do, but their effects increase steadily with time and may become catastrophic if they last long enough. If a series of wind gusts, growing and waning in pressure with a relatively slow period of ten seconds, were to hit the World Trade Center towers, the swing of the towers would slowly increase until the structure of the building might sway so widely as to collapse. The story is often told af a Germany Army infantry company goose-stepping accross a small wooden bridge in rhythm with the period of the up-and-down oscillations of the bridge. The company ended up in the river when the bridge collapsed under the resonant load of the goose-step."*
