900,000 Names on the "do not fly" List

Written by: DFA Staff on Feb 28, 2008 5:30 PM EST

Raw Story reports on the "'absurd bloating' of terror watch list" and the ACLU's efforts to do something about it:

More that 900,000 people are currently listed as suspected terrorists on the US government's "do not fly" list, and that number will grow to beyond 1 million by summer, says the American Civil Liberties Union.

...

"Homeland Security's handling of the watch lists is typical of this administration's blundering approach to the war on terror," said ACLU Senior Legislative Counsel Tim Sparapani.

I have never heard Barack Obama whine about how hard it is being black and running for POTUS. Hillary said in an interview with ABC just how hard it is to be a woman running. Perhaps there is a kernel of truth to that statement but IMO she should stop with the victim stuff - she is setting feminism back like 50 years. Cripes.

had an interesting local meeting tonight with the group putting together the county convention

we are going to wait to make our guess as to turnout for ordering the number of meals for the caterer til after Tuesday thinking if Hillary gets blown out we will lose 10-15% attendance, if she wins everyone will show and be counted for electing delegates

but either way will be big and boisterous

seashell you need to get to an Obama rally and catch on to what is happening, the call to do better as a country and do it together has turned into a movement

but in our little group tonight we had people from Clinton, Edwards, Richardson. and Obama all working together to keep the effort going thru November

our girls basketball team won and will play in the state finals and the roads were so bad two of the fan buses bumped into each other coming home, since they didn't know whether they would play again turn around and head back to DesMoines

the Presidential Contest is like a basketball team that wins the state tournament, the winner never had a bad game

heard to imagine Clinton with all those turnovers can win

...If HC were younger, with a D cup and long blond hair, I bet she'd be doing better.  Hormones rage in the youth and BO is just the guy to get 'em going.  Not a bad thing...but this is a presidential election fer god's sake...

============================

Dont kid yourself sea,

Obama is picking up where Dean left off.  The Dean Revolution was about going straight to the people for support and money and snubbing the special interests.

 90% of his money is from small donars and has just passed the 1 million individual contributor mark.  He openly as disparages special interests money and goes into office beholden to none.  Hillary tries to sing that song but just cant.  Big money is her lifeblood and obligation.

 If you look at the paraphaenalia, campaign material, T-shirts, etc. that Obama sells on his web site, it is all "Union Made in the USA."  Go to Hillary's and you don't see that.  It makes a difference.  People notice.

50 yrs.?

 Prepare for more "misty-eyed" bullshit--esp. w/lowly educated TX female voters.

Hell, no. Shit all over low income women (how Hill has climbed her career ladder).

Phil, there are no BO rallies here and I don't like crowd mentalities.

Of course it's a movement and a powerful one filled with hope and expectations.  As Audrey asked, what happens if he doesn't fulfill his supporters' expectations... the way Pelsoi and the dems haven't?

Apparently people here not only don't like articles about him that I post but my opinions are also unwelcome.  I never said ALL youth.  Please read carefully.  And the *Obama Girls* shaking their booty is sexy, even tho it wasn't his idea.  The notion of sex has been in his campaign for months.  Sex is good.  Sex is fun.  Sex sells.  Ånd it is all those things.

So we have a choice between the rock star/sex symbol and the old crone.  :-)

Phil, I'm not undecided; I'm turned off by both and will help a little to replace Smith.

I think it would be very interesting to read a study about the psychology of the BO and HC voters...and the JE supporters in days of yore.

My uneducated guess is that BO will win OR.

How about scrolling instead of being unloving?  Better karma for you.

Headlined on 2/28/08:
Obama's General Synod speech prompts IRS to investigate UCC's tax_exempt status

by J. Bennett Guess
http://www.opednews.com

The Internal Revenue Service has notified the United Church of Christ's national offices in Cleveland, Ohio, that the IRS has opened an investigation into U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's address at the UCC's 2007 General Synod as the church engaging in "political activities."

In the IRS letter dated Feb. 20, the IRS said it was initiating a church tax inquiry "because reasonable belief exists that the United Church of Christ has engaged in political activities that could jeopardize its tax_exempt status."

The Rev. John H. Thomas, the UCC's general minister and president, called the investigation "disturbing" but said the investigation would reveal that the church did nothing improper or illegal.

Obama, an active member of the United Church of Christ for more than 20 years, addressed the UCC's 50th anniversary General Synod in Hartford, Conn., on June 23, 2007, as one of 60 diverse speakers representing the arts, media, academia, science, technology, business and government. Each was asked to reflect on the intersection of their faith and their respective vocations or fields of expertise. The invitation to Obama was extended a year before he became a Democratic presidential candidate.

"The United Church of Christ took great care to ensure that Senator Obama's appearance before the 50th anniversary General Synod met appropriate legal and moral standards," Thomas told United Church News. "We are confident that the IRS investigation will confirm that no laws were violated."

SUPERDELEGATE UPDATE

Capital Eye reported two weeks ago on a connection that superdelegates have to the candidates that voters and pledged delegates don't -- nearly $1 million in campaign contributions. As the uncommitted superdelegates have been deciding which candidate to support at this summer's nominating convention, the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics has identified an additional $42,800 that flowed in the last three years from Clinton or Obama's coffers into the hands of superdelegates with campaign accounts, bringing the total to $947,000. About 80 percent of the time, the candidate who gave more money has received the superdelegate's endorsement.

Texas Republicans cross over to vote for Obama...

"One of Sen. Barack Obama’s surest applause lines comes about halfway into his standard stump speech. It goes like this:

“They whisper to me. They say, ‘Barack, I’m a Republican, but I support you.’ And I say, ‘Thank you. Why are we whispering?’”

You're known by the company you keep, the advisors you have, the votes you cast.

"....Jimmy Carter had been chosen and
groomed for the presidency by David Rockefeller and Zbigniew  Brzezinski,
the leaders of the Trilateral Commission.  When Carter reached the White
House, he turned US foreign policy over to Brzezinski.  The results were
the seizure of power by the Ayatollah Khomeini, the Soviet invasion of
Afghanistan, and the founding of Al Qaeda by the CIA (Brzezinski’s
strategy) as an Arab Legion to fight the Soviets in that country.  Carter
turned economic and financial affairs over to Paul Adolf Volcker of the
Federal Reserve, who raised interest rates to 22%, thereby destroying the
industrial potential of the United States, and contributing to a
disastrous fall in the standard of living.  Volcker, by the way, has just
made a rare presidential endorsement-of Obama. "

seashell
the way I understand his statement is that he would bomb Al Queda
(Al Queda, I also don't know how to spell or pronounce the name of the Russian president)

Chelsea will have no influence over Vermonters (esp. college students).

 VT knows how to GOTV w/o any help--they always have high primary turnout numbers.

Clinton fatigue, indeedy.

Nor did she in Maine--it had the opposite effect.

 In Ohio primary, campaign hinges on NAFTAIn a state that has lost 225,000 jobs since 2001, voters blame economic woes on free trade and globalization.By Amanda Paulson | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor Dayton, OhioIn Ohio, it feels like 1993 again.The coming Democratic presidential vote here has revived a debate over the merits of globalization and free trade – as epitomized by the long-reviled North American Free Trade Agreement.

In Ohio, which has lost nearly 225,000 manufacturing jobs since 2001, NAFTA is an easy target. For many working-class Ohioans – and the voters Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton hope to win in Tuesday's critical primary – it stands as a symbol for much that troubles their state. Against that backdrop, say experts, it's not surprising it's become a political piñata.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'bout time Washington took its head out from where the sun don't shine on trade (my edited version to keep Danny from getting upset)
if you produce nothing  (alternative energy ?) you are dependent
think a two year old that wants a cookie
and then you throw a tantrum
so what are we saying with a stimulus package that hands out imported cookies (borrowed dollars)
or go to war to claim access to oil with our military
I'm getting worried that the Fed still doesn't get it about sub-prime and the way that the risk was bundled and passed off makes it impossible to hold the perps to account
so what if capitalism works like it is supposed to and people make millions of rational choices which in this case means walking away from a home that is worth less than you owe on it
bring ten million more into that situation
they put 15% down on a $200,000 home that because a foreclosed house sits on the block is only worth $150,000
I'm used to letting the market set prices at the Chicago Board of Trade, where a reversal leads to the market taking back 60% of the gain (in this example a house that cost $100,000 to build originally)
leaving that $200,000 house worth $140,000
think it can't happen?
I lived through it in the Reagan Depression in Agriculture because a Fed didn't get it
in the Ford Administration
