Poll: Florida Dems split on revote
Posted on Thu, Feb. 28, 2008
BY BETH REINHARDbreinhard@MiamiHerald.comA new poll shows Florida Democrats are torn over how to resolve the dispute over the state's early primary date, though most don't buy Hillary Clinton's argument that her victory should count toward delegates that would allow her to catch up to Barack Obama.
...
Joan - From previous thread - looks like Clinton raised about 35MM in Feb. Good numbers but Obama's will be stellar.
Yes, releasing tax returns is oh so burdensome. Fully vetted? Don't think so not to mention the list of donors for Bill's foundation.
From last thread...
"some posting false emails about how Obama had double the Bills in his short US Senate Career"
Linda in NM~ Googled it, can't find a thing... link please!!

Howard Dean talks politics in ICCby John Cooke
Howard Dean showed up to talk about Black History Month but the focus quickly changed to politics Tuesday night in ICC Auditorium.
The Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and former Governor of Vermont contrasted the two parties’ presidential candidates, saying that with a woman and an African-American as the two front-runners, the Democratic field “looks like America,” while the all-white male Republican field “looks like the 1950s and talks like the 1850s.”
--------
It would be for sure to Democratic Party advantage, imo, as well as it would benefit all American People if chairman Dean recalled that Republican (who insists that he is not Libertarian but exactly "true" Republican) Ron Paul still is in the race.
I’m curious how Ron Paul talks, like the 1750th or what?
Thanks Karen, we need that kind of reply and source.

These are just a few of the things in McCain's history he will have to address in his battle with Obama:
He was a reckless man, who did very poorly in school throughout his life.
Was an underachiever in the Naval Acadamy finishing at the bottom of his class and barely graduating.
He ignored safety warnings from his commander and was shot down and became a POW.
We've had 2 terms of a reckless underachiever making bad decisions for our country. Another reckless underachiever is NOT what we need now to take our country back out of these countless messes these underachievers have gotten us into.
Renee has a great post up at HEP about Clinton's use of a video using the ghost (my words) of Ann Richards
http://howardempowered.blogspot.com/2008...
And where is McCain's ghost wife? Is she creepy or what? It looks like her head is attached to his shoulder, wherever he goes?
Oh I forgot, it is his "trophy wife".
During the debate Hillary said she would release her tax returns prior to securing the nomination. Today the campaign said *after the nomination is secured*. Transparency at its finest.
Poll: Florida Dems split on revote
rd
These polls never seem to come my way despite being a secretary in a chartered Dem Club and member of the county's Democratic Executive Committee.
In any event, the state is not going to fund any revote. The Republicans rule the legislature and have no interest in doing so.
The Florida Dem Party does not have the funds for a caucus and won't find any because the chairman is a Hillary supporter and knows Obama would win here now.
BTW, several months ago a Republican legislaturer left office after he was charged with soliciting an undercover officer for sex. A Dem won the special election the other day, despite the Republicans spending more than twice as much $$ on the seat and this was a district with many more Republicans.
Florida Dems are on the move upward -- we should be blue again. Hopefully we can dump Bill Nelson in a primary and replace with a good Dem.
"McCain's ghost wife"
linda~ nothing 'personal' against her, but why is it most of the rethug wives are the *stand-by-your-man, shut your mouth, barefoot and pregnant* women!?!
How demeaning!

And very wealthly too.

LMAO you are so funny and I am really looking forward to meeting you at DemFest. Your humor is only surpassed by your dedication to democracy.
Here's a NYT article on Barack's campaign spending proposal and what could happen...
"The article cited a possible model for an agreement: one reached by Senator John Kerry , a Democrat, and former Gov. William Weld, a Republican, in the 1996 Senate race in Massachusetts. Although Mr. Kerry and Mr. Weld later praised the deal as a positive step, it ended in accusations that each side had broken its word. With no real enforcement and no clear standard for judging outside spending, there was also no way to address issues until after the election"...
"And very wealthly too."
Susan~ Oh yeah, isn't that one of the reasons JMc dropped his first wife like a hot potato!?!
Denise, I am so excited that we are all going to meet at Democracyfest. That is a great area to have it. So much to do, the metro is easy to get around. I hear Rich is going to make up a list of restaurants to go to.
IT is going to be fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Super D's since Super Tuesday:
Obama - +36
Clinton - - 6
Cool! Rich can be our host and you can be our hostess with the mostest!
I will most likely rent a car just because....so we'll have enough wheels for transportation.
I gotta get back to work - just got handed 5 more meetings to plan. Yikes - the small raises they are handing out this year do not match the pint of blood they want LOL
I've been driving around the area looking for restaurants I'm not familiar with. I'll try to come up with a good variety -- there's a microbrewery not too far (which also brews root beer and ginger ale for us non-drinkers), a mexican place that opens for breakfast at 6 each morning, a few 24 hour places if we're up late...
If anyone has any specific varieties of restaurants they'd like included, I'll do my best.
The appeals court has agreed to hear a lawsuit against the DNC about Florida delegates. March 17...remember the date. This case was dismissed in a Tampa federal court, but it is going to be heard in Atlanta.
Hope for Hillary's Florida delegates? FL lawsuit against the DNC gets new life.

You can bet Hillary won't be dropping out yet. And I think this fight will continue.

Hey Fred, how are you?? Feeling ok?
I don't think she would. I don't think Obama would pick her. IMO.
===================
I'm pretty good, thank you, linda. Had a really bad digestive condition which was a side effect of pain drugs I took last year, but in December my specialist (4 hour drive away) suggested digestive enzymes and vitamin D-3(both from the health food store)
They worked and within a month I was excellent.
Unfortunately, the malnutrition from the digestive problem, left my bones so depleted I cracked a rib, but it's on the mend.
I was relieved to learn that the citizens of our country would not be spat upon for exercising their right to free speech as guaranteed by the first amendment to our constitution. Then I started to wonder if the message meant that only members of the military would refrain from spitting, in which case our citizens may not be safe from said action.
In all seriousness I do support our constitution which means that I support the right of the gentleman driving that automobile to display the bumper sticker of his choice.
However, I do feel compelled to take issue with the message displayed on that bumper sticker. The message that the war we are currently fighting should not be protested by the citizens of this nation, that we should blindly trust our leaders to do what is right and that we as mere citizens of this nation cannot possibly know better than those leaders. Not to mention the message that spitting upon someone whose opinion differs from your own may be an acceptable behavior.
As has been pointed out by individuals much more versed in our countries rule of law, we all have the right to speak our minds and we have the right to do that publicly. But I believe this right also comes with the responsibility to be informed about the actions of our leaders and to express ourselves when we fear the country is being led in the wrong direction. Intolerance and ignorance are the real threats to a free society.

People are people...
...and seldom are the stick figures the press paints them. The Doc doesn't go around screaming all the time, for example.
I've had the chance to spend some time with Cindy McCain. I've eaten lunch with her (not in a group of 500, sitting next to her at the table) and overheard as she spoke on the cell to her teenage daughter. She's a nice woman, a loving mother, and pretty smart on most topics of conversation you can imagine.
I diagree with John McCain on Iraq, on abortion (although I think he's less pro-life than he publically admits), on guns (but I disagree with the Doc on that one too), on his recent conversion to tax cuts and torture, but that's politics, it's not personal. Some of the stuff I seen on here about Cindy McCain is beneath what I think the level of discussion should be here, and I just wanted to remind folks there are real people behind the TV screen, not just stereotypes.

I really believe he will choose a woman, perhaps KS Gov. Kathleen Sebelius who is about 54 years old, or perhaps AZ Gov. Janet Napalitano, who is about ten years younger and one who Howard suggested might be a good choice
=======================
If he does make it, I think a woman would be an excellent choice, especially a young woman who would have lots of time to run for President herself. It could take decades before that choice presents itself again. Hate to be a party pooper, but one should hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
That's the first time one of my posts got 'renumbered' , I posted after Denie's entry (#24) but ended up as #18. The Twilight Zone!
Danny -- you are going to spoil us by keeping an eye on the thread lengths and announcing the new threads. Thanks for all you are doing -- I like your main posts too.
linda b -- you've had some great posts too in this and the last thread.
I give a rip about Prince Harry tho -- always been partial to the Royals --espec HMQ -- I realize this requires compartmentalized thinking -- hating the idea of a dynasty here; curious about theirs. I blame my Anglo body cells (cell memory and all that).
There's a disturbing diary on KOS by Sirota I believe how someone in Canada is putting out remarks that Obama's people called Canada's people and said not to take Obama's anti NAFTA speeches as anything but campaign rhetoric. After planting this seed in my brain, Sirota comes back and says he thinks it's a false rumor being spread by someone in Canada's administration since they are very right wing and ergo pro NAFTA. Sirota is not an Obama fan so at least he took up for Obama, altho if he thought it was false in the first place, why the H did he write about it?

Just a reminder about Democracyfest!!
I think it is the last few days for early bird rates.
Here are some things nearby. Plus if you have a car, you can get to the metro. I forgot that the metro doesn't go to Dulles. One thing they are fighting about.
- Dulles Town Center Mall (3 MI / 4.83 KM )
- Sully Plantation (5 MI / 8.05 KM )
- Washington Redskins Park (5 MI / 8.05 KM )
- Herndon Golf Course (5 MI / 8.05 KM )
- Lake Fairfax- Boating And Picnic (7 MI / 11.27 KM )
- Waterford Restored Quaker Village (9 MI / 14.48 KM )
- Leesburg Outlet Mall (7 MI / 11.27 KM )
- Tyson's Corner Mall (12 MI / 19.31 KM )
- Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center Air and Space Museum (4 MI / 6.44 KM )
- Smithsonian Museums on the Mall (25 MI / 40.23 KM )
- Great Falls Park (12 MI / 19.31 KM )
- Nissan Pavilion (8 MI / 12.87 KM )
- Wolf Trap Center for the Performing Arts (7 MI / 11.27 KM )
- Frying Pan Park (5 MI / 8.05 KM )
- Oatland's Plantation (11 MI / 17.7 KM )
1:55 p ET
Democracyfest Notes:
There are restaurants in the hotel, bit nothing else much in the way of food within walking distance, so plan to have a car if you want to go out to eat...or go out with other people with a car!
You're very close to Dulles Airport, Fly into Dulles!
You're very close to the new Air and Space Museum. If you have any interest at all, plan to spend some time there.
If you forget anything, major shopping is within a short drive.
I'm doing some more research on this, but the nearest Metro station (to go downtown) is a good distance away. A "Park and Ride" is pretty close, which will allow you to bus to the Metro or all the way into town.
If you are a Civil War buff, you are not far from the Manassas/Bull Run and Balls Bluff battlefields.

Trophy? I think she looks more like mannekin in an antique shop. Maybe an antique shop that specializes in war trophies :-]
27ish Denise
I will most likely rent a car just because....so we'll have enough wheels for transportation.
************************
I keep thinking back and forth about driving/flying down. I have a 7 passenger van, so if I drive down we won't have to ship a bunch of stuff (banners, etc), plus I'll have the van for any of us that are staying longer then the weekend and want to go someplace (I'll be there at least Thursday-Tuesday). On the other hand it's an 8 hour drive each way...
Good news.........my Brack Obama Halloween mask arrived today...............now, time to get the rollerblades out too.............
Fred & Joan --
We prolly shouldn't be talking about VP's - jinxes and all. Having said that, I think a woman as the #2 is a bad idea b/c fence sitters are already going to have to swallow the idea of a black prez, to ask them to swallow a woman as well is asking a lot. I like a nice solid guy - Dodd, maybe Clark, maybe the redhead in VA (except he's on everyone's S-list since he caved on telecom immunity). Of course, my choice is Schweitzer. Good solid man's man, westerner, governor. Doesn't have any military experience tho so that is a minus.
I say all this b/c of my vantage point - which is -- on my dog walk at noon I passed the neighbor who was raking leaves and had his radio blaring to...Rush Limbaugh who was saying that b/c of free speech he should be able to say Obama's middle name whenever he wants.
16ish Rich
If anyone has any specific varieties of restaurants they'd like included, I'll do my best.

If possible, try to include some places that will deliver to the hotel, and the hours they'll deliver.

I hope we all agree with rich on this.
When Michelle O. was criticized unfairly and had her remarks taken out of context by Kristol and others, we were outraged as we should be. I know nothing about Cindy McCain. She looks to be a lovely person and I will assume she is just that.
If a spouse, like Bill Clinton for instance, intentionally slanders and lies about the opposition, that is another story. They have put themselves right in the middle of the fray.
Senate to vote NEXT WEEK on the CPSC Reform Bill!
Industry opponents want to slow this bill down--and they have lots of lobbyists to do it. You are the best counterweight to the paid Washington lobbyists--but lawmakers want to hear your voice. Phone calls are the most effect way to pass on your views--so we've created a toll free number to connect you directly with your own Senators right now. Tell them to support a strong bill, and oppose efforts to weaken it.

Keep this screen open and pick up a phone. Tell your Senator to vote "yes" next week on the CPSC Reform Act.

The best (mass transit) way to get downtown is to start at either Dulles Airport or the Herndon Park and Ride (the hotel shuttle will probably take you there) and then take the 5A Metrobus, an express which will take you into either the Rosslyn Metro or L'Enfant Plaza Metro.
Full mass transit schedules are available at www.wmata.com

Restaurants that deliver...good idea Jessica!
Blame Lynn Worpenberg -- I just signed up for DFest too altho I'm good at chickening out :~)
shout out and big thanks to Danny - we know you are a busy man and appreciate your attention to the blog. (as you may have noticed, even when they ignore us, we don't go away - completely...)

I think John McCain's wife is very attractive, a superb fashionista and seems like a decent person. I also think Barack's wife is gorgeous, sharp dresser and witty as hell.
Sticking to facts rather than opinion...
"When McCain returned to the United States in 1973 after more than five years as a prisoner of war, he found his wife was a different person. The accident left her 4 inches shorter and on crutches, and she had gained a good deal of weight. While still married to Carol, McCain began an adulterous relationship with Cindy."
2:37 PM EST
The problem with personal ethics IMO does not lie with Cindy but rather with John himself (a.]swingin' bachelor type whilst still married; b.] got in the express lane for Navy promotions due to name recognition, etc. from his Naval father and grandfather; c.] got in the express lane into politics due to his father-in-law's money and connections in AZ).

you make a good point about Cindy McCain, but the blog is harder on Hillary than they are her
I'll see if I can go for a twofer
the second wife usually has some attractive characteristics to steal the affections of the adulterous perp that dumps his first wife
France comes to mind as a country that would make such a First Lady popular
I figure the Times threw out that story to cancel out bad press for the baggage Bill brings to Hillary cause they secretly want a Clinton/ McCain match.

Bill Burton, a spokesman for Senator Barack Obama, has already put a bit of a damper on a 3 p.m. conference call today in which Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign is expected to announce it raised $35 million in February.
“We have raised considerably more than that,” said Mr. Burton, who declined to cite an exact number. “We’re pretty encouraged.”
