Mock Caucus in Montco

by KYW's Kim Glovas

While the real thing was going on in Iowa, some Montgomery County Democrats got together to hold a mock caucus here.

About 55 people gathered at the Church of Our Savior in Jenkintown for a mock Democratic presidential caucus. Organizer Kevin Shaw explains how it mirrors the Iowa caucus.

"Each of the presidential candidates has a representative here, who will be given a minute or two to speak to the crowd, and then everybody will basically vote with their feet, and go to a corner of the room to indicate their support for their candidate. We'll count the supporters up, divide them by the total number of supporters here."

The winner of the local mock caucus was John Edwards with 24-percent of the vote.

Kucinich filed a complaint with the FCC yesterdaycomplaining that ABC is not fulfilling it's obligation to the public because it has excluded Kucinich, the only candidate who has qualified for federal funding to be excluded. He is not only fighting this in court, but will have TV and radio ads regarding it.

Dennis said the ABC action was an endorsement of their candidates.

Edwaards is beginning to feel the Media pinch. We really need to do something about the FCC and the Media, or we aren't going to accomplish much.

audrey - I watched a bit of Tweety yesterday and Jennifer Donahue in NH (can't remember what organization she's with) anyway, she tried to tell Chris, Chuck Todd and Joe Scarborough that THEY - the media were responsible for forming the narrative with the race, etc. Of course Tweety just ignored her.

I think it's just disgraceful that all the candidates don't get the coverage. At least CNN gave some good coverage to Edwards today.

The NH dinner video is up at C-Span.   Howard Dean's great speech begins about one hour and 3 minutes in.    Hard to figure how to post the link to the actual video, so just go here and look for the NH Democratic dinner.    He looks happy, and very proud of the candidates.   Video is under Recent Programs.

"Kucinich filed a complaint with the FCC yesterdaycomplaining that ABC is not fulfilling it's obligation to the public because it has excluded Kucinich, . . ."

Because the Democrats have a very managable sized field, now, there's no reason to keep Kucinich out of the debates.  I still can't watch the things, though.  One thing I can do with less of in this modern life is sound bites.

"In my lifetime, I've never seen an ape turned into a human." Florida hearing on science standards.

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/1736

A former educator really said that at the Florida hearing on science standards.

"In my lifetime, I've never seen an ape turned into a human. I've never seen us come from slime," said Ruth Klingman, who identified herself as a former educator. Darwin should not be "dogmatically taught like it was a fact."

This poll...shows how Obama is capable of doing exactly what he says he can do -- bring Americans together again to get things done in Washington.
----------

...lol, don't confuse reality and dream!
Pool can't show one's "capability" only BELEIVE in it.

The meaning of "believe" is related to meaning of "hope"...., and Obama's campaign talks "hope" ("audacity of hope") all the time.

One may or may not believe his words rather than his records.

I personally tend to think that "change" he promises (as well as "experience" Hillary proclaims) are just code words for the very same status-quo.
They both will try to substitute “real” change with talks about "progress" because of the very fact of electing either black president or woman president.

Edwards, imo, became “another’s” child in that script and will be eliminated very soon!

The real change very rarely comes from the TOP and never without the push from the BOTTOM.

Caught up a little.
We have been married nearly 32 years and my wife kept her maiden name, added a hypen and added my name. She is still the most independent person I ever met.
In Florida, we needed a court order to allow her to drive with a hyphenated last name.
About Obama and the bomb vote:
1 - All the big three left all options on the table when dealing with Iran. All three said they would bomb Iran if Iran had a nuclear missle.
2 - Obama specifically said he would bomb al Queda in Pakistan. The big discussion was about the accepted number of casualties. If you remember, I was outraged about the casual taking of innocent lives.

All three missed the point of working to make sure that day never comes.

The fact that Obama opposed the Iraq war is a good thing. Since he didn't actually have to vote on it, it doesn't mean that much. Votes that determine life and death are important. Obama's wa a nice sound bite, but it didn't mean anything.

I completely agree with Obama with the need to talk to people. Hillary was way out of line. When people stop talking, people start killing.

Perhaps the people of Iowa and NH are/were reminded of Clinton cozying up to Bush 41 when they see him speak now. I guess all that cozying the Clinton's thought would help Hillary has indeed hurt Hillary.

I am not very happy with Obama's and Hillary's plans to leave Iraq. It seems both O & H plans leave troops in Iraq until possibly 2013.
Edwards gets them out in 2009. Four years is a lot of dead people.

I am not sure any of them know that much about 4GW. Hillary for sure doesn't as she speaks the Bush party line on terrorism.
With her latest fear mongering, expect to see Karl Rove on her payroll.

So is Edwards now stealing Obama's themes, as he did Dean's?

Do you think there is a difference between what Edwards says and what his campaign does -- or promotes through friendly journalists?

It doesn't matter if he or they steal ideas.

  -------------------------------

I'd rather have Edwards speaking "Dean", than Obama dissing him.

I'd rather Edwards "governed Dean" when he had the chance instead of "governing Hillary."

I noticed yesterday that Obama is dropping his g's, as in thinkin'.  Sounds Bushie to me.  Has he always done this?  Good orators don't do this.  Or do they these days?

Patriots QB Tom Brady rides records to MVP awardBy BARRY WILNER, AP Football Writer

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is seen on the sidelines during their football game against the Philadelphia Eagles in a football game at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.. in this Nov. 25, 2007, file photo. The record-setting quarterback, who broke the NFL single-season record with 50 touchdown passes in 2007, drew all but one vote Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 in romping to The Associated Press NFL MVP award in the same manner his team romped through its schedule, going 16-0.

NEW YORK (AP) -- For all their achievements, past Most Valuable Players John Unitas, Dan Marino and Joe Montana never had a season like Tom Brady's 2007.

The New England Patriots' record-setting quarterback added The Associated Press NFL MVP award Saturday in the same manner his team romped through its schedule, going 16-0. On the way to the first unbeaten regular season since Miami went 14-0 in 1972, Brady put on a performance for the ages, which earned him all but one vote from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league.

Indeedy, John.

After next Tuesday's primary, we can perhaps kiss the DLC's corporate hacks "buh-bye," also.

I was furious w/them before welfare deform was enacted, so I'll be thrilled to see "Ms. Presumptive" taken down a notch or ten.

Anyone in the mood to keep score w/pen & paper later on, to see how many times the word "change" is uttered (esp. by Billary)?

They're all pandering in that regard.

NH voters do turn out in very high numbers (generally speaking)--this isn't good for Billary.

No snow storms or outrageously frigid weather predicted early in the week so that factors in.

'Bout time.

She's a piss-poor excuse of a Wellesley Second Waver feminist graduate, that's for sure.

Doesn't seem to recall her theory classes (e.g., intersections of sex, gender, class, and race).

Whips up their emotions.

The sensible days of issues, proposals, and records, seem to be long gone. About all we're seeing now is personal dislikes about the candidates.

And if that's all the anti-obamians have to stop him with, he's as good as nominated.

Well, as I said earlier today, since change is inevitable, being for it is not revolutionary. Besides, it's quite consistent with the Republican promise to deliver something that can't be delivered.  I mean, if it's coming on its own, you can't really claim to be bringing it on.  And then, of course, Republicans have been for change all along. They just happen to want to change things back to the way they were back in the wonderful 1950s.  So, they can honestly be for change.

In a sense, Democrats fixing on change, rather than progress, are really retreating to a constant instead of proposing to accelerate or even change direction going forward.  Anyway, I'd be surprised if Obama were aware of the epic struggle that's been waged against social equality and how important it is for some people to perceive themselves as better than everyone/someone else.  If he's an egalitarian, he doesn't recognize that the elite look on him as an enemy.  If he's into superiority, then he's not going to do us any good whatsoever.

kucinich was on bill moyer's, talking about his eliminations from their respective debates by abc and the des moines register.  rather than this form of media censorship, the campaigns need to be shorter [about 3 months or so] and inclusive.  imagine buying up media spots with $100M in 3 months.  voters would be p*ssed!!!

***********

why is clinton reverting to gender politics after iowa?  her style of feminism is so east coast.    the west has been far ahead, first giving women the right to vote in wyoming and awarding them degrees at elite institutions of higher education such as berkeley and stanford a century or so before harvard.

here's another example.  maria shriver, east coast democrat, decided that california needed a museum honoring women.  it was a yawner, but she carried out her project--because she could--and drew as much attention as an event honoring the mother of the year.

in the regional west, there has long been talk that clinton is unelectable.  why this has not been explored by the east coast media is baffling.

I made a pumpkin pie, also (late holiday pie, I guess). It's cooling.

That may be *it* for another two months--that's fine, too.

Paul is worse than Grover Norquist...wants to abolish all taxes, social service programs, Social Security, & Medicare...ad nauseum, Donna. He has no theoretical rationale as a backup--he just prattles on into infinity.

NH presently has no sales or state tax (hig property taxes instead), so the Libertarian-types in NH would be stuck raising mucho revenue at the local level.

I don't think Paul will ultimately do well w/them (if they actually read his so-called "policy" papers).

Paul doesn't believe in systemic racism or sexism...I got some news for that lil' boy. Wrooooooooooooooong.

He makes me nearly as squeamish as does (well, any of 'em are scary)--Huckabee's Bible Thumping crap.

I'm surprised Huckabee didn't bring his rifle w/him (or go ice fishing in NH, but that's sorta wimpy for Mr. NRA). I'm not sure if anything in NH (varmints) is legal to blast this time of year. Gotta prove his "manliness."

They all make me ill (listening their voices)--so do the Dems.

Their audience does NOT resemble Dems in any way--those folks are a seriously uptight frigid bunch!

However, I want to witness Billary & Big Dog *TANK*.

Stick a proverbial fork in the DLC, indeedy!

The ME Dem. party is having a hecka time recruiting convenors; as everyone's waiting to see how NH spins next Tues.(and the rest thru Super Tues., until Feb. 10th).

No need to caucus-I'll absentee ballot, *only* if Billary scores 1st or 2nd in NH.

Defensive A.B.H. voting.

Kucinich and Gravel need to bop on out (same w/Richardson)--they won't pull anything within 15%--not even 5%.

"After the bad years of President George W. Bush, many around the world are hoping that America will return to virtue and peace But the Iowa snow king has scant hope of reaching the White House. He's too young, too inexperienced, too vague, and for many Americans, too black.
His magic words about the era of change, of hope, of an America he will unite -- all that will evaporate like morning mist."

"The fact is that Obama is an unknown quantity. He sat in the US Senate for half a term without attracting any attention whatsoever. One intense speech at the Democratic convention in Boston in 2004, that was it."

<>As prez, I will change the laws that erode our Constitutional rights.  (and then list all the many laws putzie has broken)

<>

While he's at it, Edwards should cite his vote for the Patriot Crap Act.  (And he's already gotten into trouble for claiming he'll do things as president that he doesn't have the power to.)

Obama is the professor of constitutional law who never voted for it nor its extention.

61. LOL If that's what it takes. They can feast their eyes on this cutie. ( and I must add, much better looking than any of the others I've seen)

I hope he can pull a second, if not a first.

#2 seems to be Edwards' natural level of achievement. Maybe someday he'll take the hint that Democrats simply don't want him to be their nominee.

John M, you disappoint me, I thought you were more mature than the likes of Mitt and Rudy -- now I'm not so sure

You didn't already know he once made a vulgar joke about Chelsea Clinton, laughed when someone called Hillary a bitch, and horribly sang a tune to the words, "bomb bomb bomb...... bomb bomb Iran"?

Where does this guy get a reputation as anything but a crank, and why would any Democrat think otherwise?

I wonder how many voters, young or old, even know about what's going on with the Constitution..or even care.  The CMWs and debate moderators don't seem to care either.

Obama missed getting my support by not talking about it all the time. JE still has time to win NH BY talking about it tonight. IMO

Obama missed getting my support by not talking about it all the time.

Edwards missed getting mine by voting with Hillary and the other senators to subvert the Constitution.

ABC here  has local news.  Debates go from 7 to 11 our time.  God, I hope the dems start first.

Why is the left coast being shown tapes?

CA, are you getting them live?

Obama said, (and I am not going to quote everyone, tonight)

If I was designing a health care system from scratch - then single payer...

But, because many already have an employer based health plan...
