HR110-847: Repubs make cynical political bomb of Christmas

Written by: Lisa justcheckingitoutfornow on Dec 13, 2007 11:52 AM EST

Linked to groups: California for Democracy

Vote for this and you undermine the Constitutional separation of church and state and give official government approval' of Christianity as 'superior' to other religions and to non-religion.

Vote against this and the Republicans will come after you during your next campaign for being 'anti-religion', 'persecuting Christians', 'godless', or 'amoral'.

What's a legislator to do?

(Imho, stick with the Constitution, which is what you were elected to defend. You were not elected to defend religion.)

text of the HR is in the extended entry

HR110-847

Introduced: Dec 6, 2007 Sponsor: Rep. Steve King [R-IA] Status: Introduced

RESOLUTION Recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith.

Whereas Christmas, a holiday of great significance to Americans and many other cultures and nationalities, is celebrated annually by Christians throughout the United States and the world;

Whereas there are approximately 225,000,000 Christians in the United States, making Christianity the religion of over three-fourths of the American population;

Whereas there are approximately 2,000,000,000 Christians throughout the world, making Christianity the largest religion in the world and the religion of about one-third of the world population;

Whereas Christians identify themselves as those who believe in the salvation from sin offered to them through the sacrifice of their savior, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and who, out of gratitude for the gift of salvation, commit themselves to living their lives in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Bible;

Whereas Christians and Christianity have contributed greatly to the development of western civilization;

Whereas the United States, being founded as a constitutional republic in the traditions of western civilization, finds much in its history that points observers back to its roots in Christianity;

Whereas on December 25 of each calendar year, American Christians observe Christmas, the holiday celebrating the birth of their savior, Jesus Christ;

Whereas for Christians, Christmas is celebrated as a recognition of God's redemption, mercy, and Grace; and

Whereas many Christians and non-Christians throughout the United States and the rest of the world, celebrate Christmas as a time to serve others: Now, therefore be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives--

(1) recognizes the Christian faith as one of the great religions of the world;

(2) expresses continued support for Christians in the United States and worldwide;

(3) acknowledges the international religious and historical importance of Christmas and the Christian faith;

(4) acknowledges and supports the role played by Christians and Christianity in the founding of the United States and in the formation of the western civilization;

(5) rejects bigotry and persecution directed against Christians, both in the United States and worldwide; and

(6) expresses its deepest respect to American Christians and Christians throughout the world.

Greetings to you from the Prince of Darkness!  It is just a matter of time until DFA web masters (who are infested with Republican moles) keep your posts from appearing! Why?  Truth tellers in the Democratic Party are all but finished! Click here to see a plea for help from Michigan that kept getting blocked so that folks in your state could not see it: http://www.ismi.net/dreed/  Click here: http://messages.yahoo.com/Cultures/Crime/threadview?bn=18077660%23policebashing&tid=65&mid=67 and here for details: http://messages.yahoo.com/Cultures_%26_Community/Crime/threadview?m=tm&bn=18077660%23policebashing&tid=126&mid=162&tof=18&frt=2  The circumstances have gotten so bad in Michigan that homeless persons are deported from smaller cities like Howell, Michigan to larger cities such as Ann Arbor, Michigan and then are abandoned on to the streets (even in severe weather) to be arrested and/or to die!  As the years went by many U.S. Attorney Generals came and went.  Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and current U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton are also Republican moles concerning this matter and have been ever since former U.S. President Bill Clinton "sold out" to the Republicans during the Monica Lewinski scandal!  That's how the Republican "culture of corruption" has gotten as far as it has unopposed by Democrats!  Current U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey has recently been officially notified of the criminal complaints involved with this matter and are filed with the Public Integrity Section (Corrupt Public Officials Division) of the U.S. Justice Dept. whose Director is William Welch and whose office phone number is: (202) 514-1412 for those who would like to request a copy of said criminal complaints. If a U.S. Grand Jury is sequestered it will foil the Republicans so don't let that happen whatever you do!

See what I mean?  The DFA webmasters Republican moles devils have the second click on feature in my message above rigged so it won't appear!  Bravo!  In any event, if you click here, said message will appear: http://messages.yahoo.com/Cultures_%26_Community/Crime/threadview?bn=18077660%23policebashing&tid=65&mid=67  Remember, whatever you do; don't help John Edwards become U.S. President because he's the only one that intends to reform our government and press!  Us Republicans would rather see it go like you see when clicking here: http://www.arnoldexposed.com/articles/repubs_move_leftward.htm  Remember, all you have to do to get things to go the way us Republicans want is absolutely nothing!  Then look laughy like this: Ah, ha, ah, ha, ah, ha, ha, ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lou, I've had problems with DFA based on what browser and operating system I'm using. Are you sure it isn't just a technical problem?

I can post comments from Safari but have to use IE to post blog entries.

Your spamming of the comments sections with this complaint across several blog entries is the sort of thing that could eventually lead you to get 'banned' from almost any blogging-board. If that happens, consider that it may not have been your political content that caused the issue but your off-topic domination of the comments bandwidth with the same, repeated complaint.

It also makes you look like a paranoid nut and thus undercuts any validity to your arguments.

I know that I'm a bit irked with your posts; here I was hoping to read some response to my entry, where people either agree or disagree with my assessment of this resolution. Instead I get your strident, off-topic complaint. I'm not a moderator or admin, just a person like yourself. I can't do anything about your problem.

Well, "superiority" is definitely a central concern.  Social darwinism seems to have caught on with people who are otherwise opposed to science, because it tells them that man is superior to all other creatures.

The question is whence comes this yearning for superiority?  Why is equality perceived as a threat?  The answer, I would suggest, is a lingering sense of inferiority which no amount of compensation is able to correct.  People yearn to be superior because they've been made to feel inferior; probably by their family or clan.

You see, once you've been made to feel inferior, being equal just isnt' enough.  It doesn't compensate.  Superiority is required to achieve mental balance.  Too bad.

There is something really ironic about people who profess themselves to be Christians, the religion of poverty and humility and modesty, wanting to be superior.

Howard Dean is FIRST = and he backs ANY Democrat over ANY Republican, because the REPUBICANS ARE LAST!

Independent:  I saw a discussion on C-Span, wish I could remember all who spoke on this issue...Brookings, Inst., etc.  They were HORRIFIED about this Resolution.   But it should be easy to vote against it.  "We don't want to become a 'Religous Government' - like we're trying so hard to avoid in Iraq, and put down in Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc.

If 3/4 of the country are Christians (and I question that statistic) - then there is no need to make Resolutions STATING the importance of it....  It's a Republican Distraction.    I really believe that the vast majority of American people would not approve of this.

There’s MORE to the story:  I should have researched better…. Now it will be used against Democrats.  Maybe that was the whole purpose.. There were House Resolutions this fall to recognize the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the festival of Diwali, celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. Rep. Jim McDermott:  drew the line at Christmas, he said, because the resolution only stated "obvious facts… as to Democrats who voted for it he said  “What are you going to say -- you're against Christmas?" McDermott asked rhetorically.Rep. Jim McDermott said the resolution was a Republican tactic designed to draw attention from pressing issues in Congress, including legislation to boost funding of the State Children's Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP. President Bush vetoed a bill Wednesday that would have expanded the program. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/343463_mcdermott14.html

Sam, I'm sure that was the purpose. The only point I can see to this resolution is to provide a no-win situation for progressive politicians.
