I'm running!!

Written by: Marian Harris on Nov 20, 2007 7:11 PM EST

Linked to groups: DFA Central Ohio

To all my friends...

I have been overwhelmed by the number of folks who have asked me to reconsider my decision not to run for the 19th HD. Such a display of support – and the support showed me during the 2006 race- has made me change my mind. So….

I’m running! Frankly, I'm delighted!! I so enjoyed my run last year and really feel I have something to contribute to our district and to the State of Ohio.

Governor Strickland has proven to be a great Governor and leader in our state. I want to build on the sincere, effective agenda he has set out to turn around Ohio and make Ohio a prosperous state for our economy, our children and our families.

This will be a tough race but we can win it. I need your help – as supporters, as donors, as spokespeople and as colleagues. I'll be looking for organizers in all the communities in my District - Westerville, New Albany, Reynoldsburg, Canal Winchester, Groveport, etc. If you're willing to work with me in these areas, please let me know.

Most importantly, winning this seat will take money. I raised over $43,000 last time mostly with hundreds of small donations. Please consider donating to my campaign either by mail or online, so I can run the most effective campaign possible.

You were behind me in 2006…. please join my team in 2008. I'll be sending
out more information about ways you can help in the coming weeks. In the meantime, sign up to volunteer, send a check, tell your friends in the 19th HD. Right now, raising money is our first priority but there will be lots to do as November 2008 approaches. Together we can take this seat and turn around Ohio.

Fox Host Says Dissenters Should Be Tased
Kilmead laments that people who confront politicians aren't "beaten to a pulp," as establishment continues to sell war on anyone who disagrees with authority

Prison Planet | November 20, 2007
Paul Joseph Watson

During a discussion about a Code Pink member heckling Hillary Clinton at a recent event, Fox News host Brian Kilmead said that people who confront politicians are "threatening" and should be Tased or "beaten to a pulp," as the establishment media continues to sell the idea that anyone who disagrees with authority should be brutally punished.

A segment on the Fox and Friends morning show yesterday turned into an opportunity for Kilmead to share his dictatorial fetish that dissenters be dealt with in the proper manner, as footage aired of Clinton's heckler being removed from the event by security.

Repost from earilier thread. Including good video interview of Howard Dean.

Florida is at it again.   A school board majority comes out in favor of creationism as opposed to evolution.

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/1655

There are a lot of letters to the editors calling evolution a form of indoctrination.

Good interview of Howard Dean in Denver last week.    The Fox anchor was very polite and courteous.  Quite a long interview.

I too have run for office, and even people that wouldn't think of voting for you are cordial. The best part for me was the geography lesson as I took the roads less traveled. But enjoying meeting citizens face to face at their door and trying to sell yourself is crucial to success as well.

good luck, but win or lose enjoy, Marian

I think that Dodd is counting on support from real Republicans--people who don't want to be involved in government and just want someone competent and trustworthy at the helm.
-----------

....like Ron Paul is counting on support from real
Democrats -- people who ALSO don't want to be involved in government TO MUCH and just want to SPREAD EXCESSIVELY concentrated power from government BACK to people.

Of all the candidates, Richardson has the best and most consistent Iraq plan. Out in 180 days. It's doable IF there is Presidential leadership and the Pentagon puts its mind to it.

But six months or a year, as long as the troops are moving out, the lethal equipment with them, and the bases are dismantled, it is in the right direction with a firm end date.

All of them plan to do that except Clinton who wants to maintain a combat presence chasing AQ around and training the Iraqis military. Just who would we be training and what would they do with the training?

There was a discussion this morning about FISA on WNPR's Where We Live. There was no mention of Senator Dodd during the entire one-hour show devoted to this issue, unless I missed it and they mentioned his name in a nanosecond. Someone in Dodd's office should be screaming at WNPR about this. Below is my comment to WNPR:

I listened to John Dankosky’s “Where We Live” this morning (Nov 21) on the FISA issue. I was shocked that there was no mention of Chris Dodd in this one-hour show on FISA and retroactive immunity for telecom companies. Perhaps I missed it, but I made an effort to listen to the entire show. Arlen Spector (R-Pa) was quoted, and we heard from most of the CT congressmen, but no mention of Senator Dodd. Are we in Kansas? Senator Dodd has been a major player in the Senate on this issue, fighting hard to block the retroactive immunity provision of the FISA bill, even to the extent that he is willing to filibuster if necessary. And here we are in Dodd’s home state, listening to a LOCAL radio broadcast, and no one mentions Dodd, not Dankosky, not his invited speakers! Dodd is a presidential candidate – it is important that the public be informed on his activities in the Senate – and this topic was a perfect opportunity for that. But, evidently, Dodd is as invisible to WNPR as he is to the national media. This could not have been an accidental oversight, so I would like to ask John Dankosky and WNPR, Why did this happen?

talk to Turkey and Iran and make similar deals and end the occupation and you might even end up with a country after we leave
------

No, spasms can't be stooped now, too late.

One one hand Bush&Co. can't leave (except creating image of it), till warranted that the central Iraqi government (ANY government, Maliki or non-Maliki), is actually in charge, so they could "move on" next step, some years later, into Iran.

On another hand the idea of capable central Iraqi government is dead, it's from the past (that's why Biden using that idea of partitioning not only as his own but also as a new..., 'cause its ALREADY happening..., lol).

The hole is only getting deeper although "violence has been decreased significantly"..., lol.

Iran could extend its influence more effectively into a whole Iraq, so don't bet it won't happen, because it would also be diluted which would suit Saudi Arabia and be more stable so would suit Israel.

best to just leave and see what happens

Kucinich exists in American political life for decades while been very persistent in his views...., quite unsuccessful so far.
Today too he is not very inspiring.
Why?
'cause, imo, he knows WHAT needs to be done but does not know HOW.

While Ron Paul knows HOW to inspire people with seems little comprehension WHAT might follow.

About time someone jumped on that! Stupid answer by Sen Obama. I'll give 'im that living abroad is enlightening, but ...!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Paine I rarely disagree with you but I do disagree with this. One of the big reasons I'm drawn to Obama is that he has a genuine foot in the Muslim world, the black world, and the white world. He genuinely sees all these points of view and that's why he is able to reconcile people instead of polarizing them. I live in the deep South and blacks automatically put up an invisible shield when they meet me for the first time, and as a white who grew up in a segregated world, I have my own shield, which makes it very difficult to bridge the mistrust. Contrastedly, I've had a few bi-racial students in my classes. They are able to communicate with me as a white w/out that shield of mistrust and in turn I'm able to communicate with them. I don't know if this makes any sense, maybe you have to be brought up here to understand. Anyway, that's why I like Obama.

Also contrastedly (my new spell checker doesn't like that word), why doesn't someone jump on Hillary talking about her 'experience'? Being a first lady is not experience for the Presidency, any more than being the wife of an MD enables one to diagnose diseases, or being the husband of an airline pilot enables one to take over flying the plane.

This country was alone among industrial countries after WWII, with her industries and infrastructure intact.

Europe was devastated. They learned to pull together and rebuild their lives and economy.

The USA learned to be haughty and self-righteous.

Israel was also morally corrupted by WWII. No one was there to save them from the holocaust and invite them away from harm's way, en masse. They now believe might is right and their country must be ethnically pure to maintain it as an ethnic refuge.

Both countries have become a microcosm of what they fought against and despise.

25.  Laura Bush seems to think that being First Lady prepares you for the hard stuff in the White House, the klieg lights.  "klieg lights" seem to be the word of the day yesterday.  McClellan used the phrase.  When Bush Two repeated it twice in his interview and then kept himself from saying it again, I got suspicious.  It could be that Bush/Cheney have decided that keeping people riled up at them lets them get away with whatever they're plotting.  You know, like that ruckus outside the vote counting venue in Brevard took up attention that might have been better spent on the opti-scan tally machines.

Just a thought.

Please Democrats!

Wake up to the fact that $100/barrel oil is mostly attributable to Bush's sabre-rattling toward Iran, and your lack of opposition to same.

If we could get to the point of not threatening Iran, at the behest of Israel, oil prices would be down to $60 or lower in no time.

Iran does not threaten us. There's no credible evidence that it's developing nukes ( though you couldn't blame them, given the threats from us AND Israel).

So Democratic sheeple, if you nominate Hillary--or Obama, you're signing on to 200/bbl oil, $6+ gasoline, and endless war on Islam (which we'll lose.)

But Dennis is too short.

Well, we'd already heard that Iraqis were returning to Iraq.  Here's one explanation why.

Iraqis go home
Money in return for death. What a great deal. Syria newswire

November 21, 2007

Thank you very much to John Wreford for this amazing find.

As if the Syrian racism against Iraqi refugees isn't bad enough, now the Iraqi government is playing at it.

This is a flyer posted all over Sayida Zeinab:

Photo: John Wreford.

It reads:

"The Iraqi Ministry of Transport is operating secured journeys to Iraq - in modern air-conditioned vehicles, accompanied by 'protection' - for the Iraqi refugees to return to their country, free of charge.

The first journey will be on Monday 26 November 2007. To register, contact the Iraqi Trade Attache, in Mezzeh Sharqiyeh."

Not sure what the 'protection' they are offering includes? Armed guards?

Meanwhile, it's also reported Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki is offering Iraqi refugees in Syria $1200 to return home. Who can refuse that kind of money. And more importantly, can they turn that money down when their families need it so badly.

Many are living in a poverty they never knew they would face. Many spent their entire life savings to save up for the journey to Syria. Many risked their lives to make that journey.

But if their children are starving in Syria, how about saying - I'll take the money, travel to Iraq and get the first bus back. I'll be back soon.

Shame on Iraq, and on Syria for allowing this to happen.

Money in return for death. What a great deal.

Afghanistan 'falling into Taliban hands'

Richard Norton-Taylor
Wednesday November 21, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

.....At least 1,200 civilians have been killed so far this year, it adds - half in operations by international or Afghan forces. There are four times as many air strikes by international forces in Afghanistan than in Iraq, Oxfam notes.

----------

I made a recommendation to NATO, some time ago, to change their tactics or they would risk alienating the Afghan population and embolden the guerrillas. Judging by the state of Occupied Territories-East, they failed to consider my advice. Now, the Taleban are on the march to Kabul.

Also, it appears there is widespread corruption in the Afghan government which isn't good for getting on with the peoples' business. Its neglect of its own people is not dissimilar to what is and has been going on constantly in the Iraqi government. Last I heard, the Iraqi regime has only met three of eighteen benchmarks needed for political progress. This, as has been said by many people, is the only hope the country has to survive because there won't be a military solution. Despite the best efforts of 1 % of the American population, the government seems as dysfunctional as it was before the minimal surge.

Getting back to NATO....whats up with all the restrictions with Germany, Italy and France? Can the U.S. and its allies to the south really take the fight to the guerrillas when those countries fail to deliver on their commitments. Its almost like the U.S., Canada and Britain are fighting with one hand tied behind their back. Well, since thats the case....the way the tactical situation on the ground has evolved over the last couple of years.....the disproportionate use of U.S. airpower in the populated areas, the many restrictions placed on the ground forces, the alienation of the civilian population, the resilience of the guerrilla force and the rampant corruption in the Afghan government....all of these ominous developments leads me to conclude that this could be NATO's Vietnam.

WXPN, November 10, 2006 - Arlo Guthrie is the oldest son of folk-music legend Woody Guthrie and Marjorie Mazia Guthrie, a dancer in the Martha Graham Company. He has become a musician of international renown without ever experiencing what can be classified a hit: While "Alice's Restaurant" and "Coming Into Los Angeles" were immensely popular among crowds at the 1969 Woodstock and Newport Folk Festival, they didn't gain much radio airplay. Guthrie performed a concert from WXPN and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia on Nov. 10.

Music was a natural career choice for Guthrie, who grew up surrounded by musicians and dancers, and he started performing publicly at 13. An accomplished musician, Guthrie plays piano, harmonica, a six and twelve-string guitar and at least a dozen other instruments. His diverse talents also include arranging his own music, acting, writing, doing charitable work and running his own record label. Even after four decades of touring the world, Guthrie still tours almost 10 months a year, frequently accompanied by one or both of his children, Abe and Sarah Lee.

Now on PBS...the 70th birthday of the Israel Philharmonic with Zubin Mehta, Pinkus Zuckerman and Daniel Barenboim playing Bruch, Brahms and one other I forgot.

This should be spectacular.

Can you give me contact info for your sister? She might be willing to help even if she's not in the 19th. Dan has lots of volunteers!!

You could help with a contribution, if you like! (I've become shameless when it comes to fundraising!!)

 Thanks for the good wishes

 Marian
