Astroturfing Santa Clara Plays Fair attacks Democrats in Silicon Valley

Written by: James Rowen on Nov 9, 2007 12:00 PM EST

It is sad when people that learned how to work for Democratic Change use their principles for their own private gains. A group of former activists for change in Silicon Valley have formed a terrible alliance with Republicans and Libertarians to defeat a professional football stadium plan favored by progressive Democrats in Santa Clara. This group, Santa Clara Plays Fair, an astroturfing political action committeee, led by Byron Fleck, a former developer's lobbyist, has decided to use the blogosphere to attack a plan to move the 49ers to Santa Clara. The San Francisco developers who are funding this effort want the team to clear out a group of poor people from Hunters Point. Lennar Corporation known nationwide as a group that has attempted to demolish quality affordable housing for minority homeowners is supporting this effort. Fleck, who raised money to kick out poor people in Pittsburgh so that a bad stadium for the University of Pittsburgh has allied himself with Michele Ryan, a person who has consistenly attempted to force a recall of four progressive Democrats from the city council.

It is sad when progressives sell out their principles for money for their political action committees astroturfing as legitimate grass roots groups.
