"No End in Sight" screening @ SFD Meeting - WED.
Linked to groups: Sacramento For Democracy
You Spoke – We Listened!We’ve responded to feedback we received regarding the movie we chose for our November meeting. Since most people have already seen "An Inconvenient Truth" (and Al Gore has not yet thrown his hat into the Presidential race), we’ve decided to show another film this month. A great film recently became available, and so we’re going to take this opportunity to bring you No End In Sight!
To RSVP and watch a preview, click here:
http://www.dfalink.com/event.php?id=24756
No End In Sight, winner of the 2007 Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Prize: Documentary, has received incredible reviews. Time Magazine has called the film "Without a doubt the most important film you are likely to see this year," and it is possibly the best reviewed film of the entire year, as you can see from the selection of critic quotes below.
Join us this Wednesday to see for yourself - This film makes a case against Bush’s Iraq policy, even by some of those who helped put those policies into place.
We’ll provide the popcorn and sodas (and coffee, tea and snacks); you provide opinions and discussion!

last thread
Gore is being very patience in letting the current field find their position on the currect governmental policy response to global warming, but in the end it is the actions of the citizens that do the work.
if Edwards is the second choice of a majority of Gore voters in the pulse poll he will win the vote, but it will not be enough for an endorsement, and it is likely the Gore voters split their second choice many ways
Arshad said Gore had to announce by today, and Charles said he would reveal those numbers in time to act
that time has nearly come and gone for people on line at work in the Eastern Time Zone
why the delay?
let me "correct" the spelling in my last post
do you people that claim not to know Gore's views on health care or the war or for gawds sake global warming need it in a 30 second sound bite?
CandidateVotesDennis Kucinich44013Al Gore (write in)37171John Edwards21041
Speaking of 30 second sound bites, I heard Ron Paul articulating his position on Iraq and deploying US troops in the ME and around the world. He was perfectly in line with my views on that subject. But then, so is Kucinich. So there's no need for me to shop GOP.
And speaking of Ron Paul......
Ron Paul supporters drop their ‘money bombWhen it comes to the polls, Ron Paul can’t quite top 5% in any scientific state or national survey. But when it comes to fundraising, results like these sure are impressive.
Proving again his ability to raise significant cash online, Ron Paul has raised nearly $2 million since midnight via his website.
In what is being called a “money bomb,” Paul’s fervent backers spread the word that today they’d blast their candidate with Internet contributions, setting up a website, “This November 5th,” to push the plan. An aide said they had nothing to do with the effort.
“Supporters have spontaneously organized what I can only refer to as a one-day attack of donations,” said Paul spokeswoman Kate Rick. “We started at midnight with $2.77 million raised for the quarter, and have, as of 9:36 am, climbed up to over $4.1.”
As of 12:27, Paul had raised $4.73 million total.
As far as I can tell, that’s $2 million in just 12 hours, all from a fundraising initiative that the campaign had practically nothing to do with. (Apparently, Paul staffers didn’t even alert its email list to the drive.)
Multiply that by 10-20 to get an idea of what Gore could do within days of an announcement.
The Greens may not be happy, but we need name recognition AND someone progressive. If we don't work together, we can forget ever bringing down the DC corruption.
Perhaps we could all get behind Kucinich.
Perhaps Ron Paul could be Sec'y of Peace since getting outta the ME is his thing. Other than that, he's a social Darwinist who wants to end all social programs. What a disaster that would be.
Perhaps we could all get behind Kucinich.
He seems in line with what Greens say they want.
But maybe they'll wind up getting behind Gore this time?
Other than that, he's a social Darwinist who wants to end all social programs. What a disaster that would be.
That's why letting 30 seconds decide is a big mistake.
GWB lied his butt off pretending to be a "uniter" in order to get selected by the SCOTUS. Ron Paul is no different, just using different rhetoric.
GWB lied his butt off pretending to be a "uniter" in order to get selected by the SCOTUS.
Like Edwards and his newfound populist pacifism.
Ron Paul claims to get $12 million dollars in contributions in one day! What an alarm bell that should set off in DC.
I suspect this is where one can find much of that "lost" Katrina/Homeland Security Dept, and Iraq money is. It is winding up in the hands of Repug donors just as much of the Bush tax-paid-for religious "initiative" money has been for years.
We need more aggressive investigations into where all these millions of dollars went. It didn't disappear into thin air and I don't see any Iraqis who have suddently become richer than hall, nor any Katrina survivors either.
Seashell....
I could easily get behind Kucinich. There is so much rage out in the electorate, I think now would be the time to elect a progressive who is not afraid of the Repugs, and not even afraid of the BushDems. He has more Howardly qualities than any of the other candidates.
Perhaps we could all get behind Kucinich.

Exactly on the afternoon of the morning that hell freezes over. I don't vote for megalomaniacs no matter *what* they've learned to mouth. . . .
Vermont is the healthiest state in the nation.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2007...
Hardly looking for wealth or riches, Kucinich lives in a very modest home in an older ethnic neighborood in Cleve. He associates himself with the common person. Absolutely nothing pretentious about him, like Howard. That's why the people who know him like him so much.
Sounds like someone has some other complaint.
some of Kucinich's platform will get majority support in Iowa even as he has a hard time reaching viability here
the pulsepoll is a measure of loyalty transformed into action for a man on the eve of submitting an Impeachment Resolution (which at DFA should have near unanimous support)
I'll give him the same 40-1 odds of getting the nomination, but he does further splinter the Not War Party coalition
Sounds like someone has some other complaint.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ask Linda/SF about what staffers who worked closely with him have to say. . . .
wow, Edwards has surged past Obama. If he gets the majority of Gore's votes, and Kucincich's are thrown out because they stacked the deck, he just might win. Hey, maybe this poll is really ok! Just kidding.
The poll doesn't reflect DFA members and should not be used for endorsement. We need more integrity and not a black box nightmare.
Pyongyang agreed earlier this year to dismantle its nuclear weapons programme in return for diplomatic recognition and economic aid.
North Korea shut
The poll doesn't reflect DFA members
Steve
We had to drag HQ's dragging and kicking to take an official public stand against the war ... fundraiser v march as example
the poll may very well reflect a preference for a clear Out. Now. candidate and the choices are limited
Dennis Kucinich's best claim to fame is his remake 3.0 of the "Peace Candidate". He never got much traction being so angry and sarcastic at folks when he preached Peace Dept.
It took him 'til after the Media Conference in TN to complete the make over. Cheryl said everyone was so ticked off at him with his conduct and they didn't even know he was invited.
Ask why he waited almost a year to bring this resolution on Cheney when there was such strong effort almost a year ago. The game of politics. Just like his other issues that he quickly changed his mind on.
I'm sure his friends who do know him do like him. And Dennis sure looks happy when he looks at his wife. But he sure doesn't warm up to me.
The New York Democrat is the top choice of 44 percent of the likely Democratic voters interviewed for the poll. Her closest rival, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, was the top choice of 25 percent, and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina has 14 percent.
All other Democratic candidates were in single digits. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson was backed by 4 percent, Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware by 3 percent, Sen. Christopher Dodd by 2 percent, Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich by 2 percent and former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel was at 1 percent.
The poll involved 467 interviews conducted on November 2-4 with Democrats or independents who lean Democratic. The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
In a head-to-head matchup of the two front-runners, Clinton leads Giuliani 51 percent to 45 percent. That lead has increased since October, when Clinton led Giuliani 49 percent to 47 percent.
HQ's knows exactly which addresses are DFA members and which joined to vote.
I say we welcome the newcomers, very few seem to be War Party members
I've heard the rumor, along with others. Rumors happen around candidates that are feared by those entrenched in the establishment. There were plenty tossed around by those who feared Howard. When there is nothing substantively negative about a candidate, their detractors go to personal criticisms. They never found anything on Howard, so they had to go to fake screams and try to make him look a little unstable.
Lots of whining about the "pulse poll" being bogus, primarily because Dennis is kicking butt.
I agree that it's unscientific, but as a Kucinich supporter I'm enjoying the consternation!
Meglomaniac ?
in my personal meeting with Kucinich he did seem to make his candidacy a bit of an ego trip, maybe a little less than Biden, I don't see that as the bigger problem than being a front for hidden special interests
Kucinich supporters in Iowa are a fairly large component of the progressive block
there is no Russ Feingold in the race
The case is the first of five lawsuits involving at least 5,000 workersA US jury has awarded a total of $3.3m (£1.58m) to six workers who claim they were left sterile by a pesticide used at a banana plantation in Nicaragua. The workers accused Dole and Standard Fruit Co and Dow Chemical Co of concealing the dangers posed by the pesticide, used in the 1970s.
It contained the chemical Nemagon (DBCP), used to kill tiny worms on the roots of banana plants.
David
He does have an air of something like that, and I could see how someone could get that impression. Same with Biden.
Clinton doesn't have it, her faults are different.
Well spoken, Phil.
If Hillary Clinton were ahead in the poll, I'd sense a stacked deck. I've always felt that Dennis Kucinich is a natural fit with DFA core values.
And, etc. etc.
I've always felt that Dennis Kucinich is a natural fit with DFA core values.
He owns the issues, but he's too short, he flip-flopped on abortion, and he helped eithanize a Dean campaign that was already terminally ill.
Go figure
I stopped buying into attacks on personality when the MSM tried to portray the kindest, most level headed person I've ever spoken with - as a lunatic.
BTW, Kucinich had a great response to MSNBC's "paint someone a lunatic for ratings and tomorrow's sound bytes" - he smiled and spoke about more people claiming to have seen a UFO than the number of Bush supporters.
HQ's said they were sitting on the Gore "out" rankings for a reason after showing them when Gore first surged.
what is the excuse the final night?
Linda....
The reason for not bringing up his Impeach Cheney res. earlier is clear. It was written in April, I believe, but the co=sponsors have been slow to step up to the plate. You remember when I tried to get people to call new supporters. That was months ago, and there were only 18 then, and now there are 21. Conyers said he would put it up for a vote if we got 60 co-signers. Well, that wasn't going to happen in this session. Dems are frightened.
So, Dennis is going ahead without overwhelming upport from his fellow Dems. Nobody else is doin that. That is what is important. Things like Moore and Jim supporting Hr 676. Those are the things to focus on in my opinion.
David
I remember all the "UFO" sightings that descibed stealth bombers perfectly when they were in the test phase,
I saw three cruise missles on a test run on the Neecedah bombing range and anybody else that saw them hadn't ever seen anything like that around here in the 80's either
Osprey helicopter suddendly disappearing at jet fighter speed?
I won't hold that against Dennis.
I remember the first time I saw the space station cross the night sky and disbelieving my eyes.
Al Gore has made his positions as clear as any of the other candidates, and has done it without spending tens of millions.
I respectfully beg to differ Phil. Maybe you have some inside info, but I have no idea where Al stands on:
- Iraq
- Iran
- Impeachment
- Health Care
- Tax Policy
- Israel
I can't enumerate any more in my numbed state.
Ron Paul's Record Online Haul
Sen. Barack Obama has Oprah Winfrey, Sen. Hillary Clinton has Magic Johnson and Rep. Ron Paul, the online star of the primary race, has Sean Morley, aka Val Venis, the popular adult film star-turned-WWE pro wrestler.
And like many of the Paulites, the Texas congressman's loyal, Web-savvy supporters, Morley is blogging about Paul on his own site. "I can't really say what my support means. But, you know, I first heard about him two years ago, and I've studied his voting record and I'm convinced that more than candidate, Republican or Democrat, he's the most principled candidate out there," Morley, a libertarian, told The Trail this afternoon. "By the way, I'm at Denny's outside LAX. Here for a fight later tonight. I'm wearing a Ron Paul T-shirt. It's a great day for Ron Paul, you know."
Indeed.
Today, Nov. 5, marks not only Paul's best fundraising haul in a single day -- more than $2.5 million by 6 p.m. EST -- but online observers say it's also the most money raised by a candidate on the Web in a single day. And the day's not over yet. "Damn. Wow. Um, that's pretty awesome," said a stunned Jerome Armstrong who served as Howard Dean's online strategist. Armstrong, the founder of the popular blog MyDD, said Dean raised as much as $700,000 in one day toward the end of the primary race. "But not a million," Armstrong added. "What Paul is doing -- or what his supporters are doing -- is really impressive." You can view all the fundraising data here.
On the online left, Sen. Chris Dodd is getting a lot of love, especially among the liberal bloggers. On the online right, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is attracting more visitors to his Web site than the rest of the Republican field -- save Paul himself, depending on which traffic site you're looking at. But the online political sphere at large has been buzzing about Paul since the beginning of the year. Reporters who write about Paul -- or who fail to mention Paul in their stories -- are familiar with the e-mails, some of them downright incredulous. His popularity in online polls has been questioned by some online observers and was the subject of a study by the University of Alabama. (The study concluded that illegal spamming is involved, though Gary Warner, who directed the research, said Paul's campaign probably has nothing to do with it.) Annoyed by the Paulites who storm RedState.com, the popular conservative site, the folks at RedState banned them from commenting on the site. ...photo and full article: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail...
Ron Paul Cracks $3M in One Day, Melts Down Server, Burns Bandwidth By Hal Taylor
He is Ron Paul. He's not a huge fan of paper money but he is willing to take it from supporters that are cranking out a one day fundraising drive that at this writing is kicking up just north of $2.5 million. (I've rounded up to three million and am guessing just a little bit more). His supporters are calling it a money bomb. I would have went with a gold bomb to keep with the whole Dr. Paul theme but who can argue with the success?
KVUE's Elise Hu has this at the "Political Junkie": "He still registers in the single-digits in national polls, but Texas Republican Ron Paul supporters are true-believers. They are the die-hard, hardcore, we'll stand in the rain holding a boombox outside your window kind of supporters." For those Paul supporters that weren't quite born when the film debuted it is from the movie "Say Anything").
the NSA server is slow?
Audrey, where was his voice when the states were pushing for Congress to Impeach, instead of worry about just his Bill getting traction?
Kucinich is still going to get a Howardly when it is introduced, whenever.
Audrey, really it's ok, you don't have to answer that. If you feel good with his actions, that's fine, for you, they just don't sit well with others that look at more information.
Answers can always be given to fit a scenario.
But that doesn't mean others work that way.
You know, the weird part is I was a proponent of impeaching Bush long ago and worked towards that effort the beginning of this year. But I don't find impeaching of the Vice President, as much as a evil Dick he is, appropriate. And what, if the Repubs decide to get rid of Dick, because of this effort and the damage it may cause the Repubs and place in another to get the position and be able to run for President in 09 with much more backing them, it really doesn't change much of anything for us currently, but does give the Repubs and upper hand for 09.
imo
Linda....
He's one of a very few of the Critters doing his job. You think he should have gone to NM to tell them what to do? a congressman from Ohio. That would have gone over good with your legislature, I'm guessing not. He can do the same thing tomorrow. Timing is important. He waited as long as he could for the most support.
- Iraq -- against
- Iran -- against
- Impeachment "off the table"
- Health Care -- universal
- Tax Policy -- fair
- Israel -- pro
Impeach Bush, you get Pres. Cheney. Impeach Cheney and more evidence comes out to then impeach Bush.
HQ's knows exactly which addresses are DFA members and which joined to vote.
I don't even know what being a "member" means. I remember when DFA was anybody who showed up. I hope it's still that way. Exclusion sucks.
crooks and liars is reporting that Keith will have a special comment tonight..
puddle,Linda in SF, please tell us who you could get behind. It needs to be someone that has a chance of winning or putting out high numbers.
Face it! There's something *wrong* about all of them...so we need to accept some flaws here and there. Who's the least flawed and who would be best for our country? Who will get things done?
I still say Kucinich. Lotsa people didn't like Truman either and look what happened to sweet Jimmy Carter.
The dems in DC can't get it together...are we gonna reflect that same kind of thing and lose again? Wisdom is the art of knowing what to overlook. I don't think we can hold the past so strongly against them...for our own good. And forgiveness is also important.
OK, then Edwards. Can we agree on Edwards?
Any of these guys would be better than Clinton. IMO.
Impeach Bush, you get Pres. Cheney. Impeach Cheney and more evidence comes out to then impeach Bush.
I've been an impeach cheney firster all along. He is the driving evil of the Bush regime. Without him Bush would just go to Camp David and ride around in his presidential golf cart.
Linda...
I know it's ok. I only responded to the meglomaniac rant. I know many people who have known Dennis all his life, and I have asked them about a rumor from this blog, and they simply have a different experience. So, that's ok too., but I do have a lot of information not broadly available.
Look, people wanted to have a beer with nice affable George Bush and look what an a*******he is.
Maybe we need an a******* who gives a damn about us, the country and our soldiers as well as other people in the world.
I really don't care if we run an a******. I want a prez who will honor the Constitution and roll back prez runaway power.
What is CONSERVATIVE and LIBERAL?
To paraphrase and carry forward a metaphor of Ralph Waldo Emerson in his essay, "The CONSERVATIVE": Dirt as the decomposition and consolidation of past progress represents the political CONSERVATIVE; and what grows from dirt as an ongoing renewal and reaffirmation of NEW life and progress represents the political progressive, the LIBERAL.
Dirt comes from the resolution of organic and inorganic matter. DIRT and LIFE, the political CONSERVATIVE and the political progressive, the LIBERAL, move cyclically from politically CONSERVATIVE resolution into politically progressive, LIBERAL, reconstitution.
Since the time of Goldwater and Reagan, the United States has been in a period of politically CONSERVATIVE resolution, and as the cycle passes, the United States will emerge into a politically progressive reconstitution into NEW political LIFE and PROGRESS; this cycle will inevitably result in future cycles of politically CONSERVATIVE resolution and politically progressive, LIBERAL, reconstitution.
The cycle is inevitable both in nature and in politics. In nature the cycle is a part of nature and does not need constant awareness and attention to maintain the cycle. In politics, constant political awareness and political attention is required to keep the cycle in balance. Political progressives, LIBERALS, for the most part, do not have resolve comparable to that of nature and as a result progressives, LIBERALS, allow the CONSERVATIVE-LIBERAL CYCLE to get out of balance by political inattention to maintenance of the cycle; this inattention to maintenance of the CONSERVATIVE-LIBERAL CYCLE by LIBERALS must change if politically progressive, LIBERAL, political life is to maintain its cycle of growth, and balance politically CONSERVATIVE resolution of politically progressive achievement.
Look, people wanted to have a beer with nice affable George Bush and look what an a*******he is.
Yes. Affability is at the bottom with electability as a reason to decide who to vote for.
Audrey, you' have proven my point. Do you think the only way Kucinich could have voiced support for Impeachment was if he came out to New Mexico, or Utah, Or Washington.... I don't think so. He hasn't had to for this action he's taking now, right?
____________________
Seashell, yes, you are correct......who has the chance at winning. Who would get the support, especially up against a Republican in the General. Who's positions and experience match best what he wants to do.
__________________________
Audrey...yes, it could be a better method for breaking down this regime, going for Cheney first. I can see that.
But again.......so much time and damage has passed from last year when these issues were being brought up and voted on in the States begging for Congress to act and trying to get their own resolutions when Congress wasn't acting.
Puddle, Huggs indeed. Everyone deserves a hug.
...stars, planets and the moon. You should see the sky here. Our new home stares at the east with a view to the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Lastnight Orions Belt staring right in front of us and Pleadis above. The viewing here is magnificent...even with the naked eye.
David ~~ I'm sorry, but Denis has all the earmarks, to me, of a future Nader. He feels, tastes, and sounds like the big N. And very very different from Howard.
I always worry about the self-consciously Pure Of Heart. . . .
Denis has all the earmarks, to me, of a future Nader.
If it weren't for Nader there would have been no Dean.
I disliked Nader intensely too until I realized the Dean was articulating the same message, and when Nader said he wouldn't run if Dean won the Dem nomination I realized he was in it for the cause of reform rather than himself.
HEY, DK's folks are really bringing up those votes.
The gap is widening.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
A Message from Dennis Kucinich
I am emailing you to ask for your vote in the Democracy For America presidential straw poll. Winning this DFA poll will shock the pundits, create tremendous attention and will greatly increase volunteer support for our campaign. The DFA community needs to know that there is a candidate who:
1. Organized 125 Democratic Congressmen to vote against the 2002 resolution to authorize force in Iraq;
2.That there IS a Democratic presidential candidate who voted against the Patriot Act;
3. That there IS a Democratic presidential candidate who supports withdrawing from NAFTA and the WTO,
4. That there IS a Democratic Presidential candidate who has called for impeachment of the Vice President AND the President.
5. And more importantly, there IS a Democratic candidate who stands for a NOT FOR PROFIT health care system, Medicare for All.
Please take the time now to cast your vote.
Here are three easy steps required to vote in this poll.
1) Please go to the following link:
http://DemocracyforAmerica.com/VoteKucin...
2) My picture will be added to box #1 automatically for you. Follow the Instructions and vote for 2 additional candidates by dragging and dropping the other candidates pictures into box #2 and #3. If you do not wish to vote for anyone else, simply drag and drop the picture labeled "Other ?" into box #2 and #3 and type in "Dennis Kucinich" in both boxes.
3) Once you have filled in all three of your choices a Registration box will appear below the 3 boxes. You will need to enter your Email Address, Zip Code, First and Last Name and then click on the submit button in order for your vote to be counted. That's it!
DK was my second pick. So if they set aside the Gore votes, he'll get mine.
Wonderful view.
I always worry about the self-consciously Pure Of Heart. . .
I worry more about those whose records are of collaboration with Bush.
The blog count is off again. 84 s/b 81
It's still off.
And then there's Kucinich's wife; an asset. Did you see her wearing an outrageous Camen Miranda hat when he was speaking to Latinos?
We could use a sense of humor in the BH and they both have it.
And I admit I feel warm fuzzies toward someone who keeps a copy of the Constitution in the pocket.
I still want Gore but it's looking dimmer and that saddens me. But I'll keep writing
Gore/?
seashell ~~ NO one. I'm voting Gore. I get to throw a vote away once every century. This one's mine for this one.
Hardball is reporting that negative ads work and that's a very sad commentary on our society.
The Edwards ad about Clinton doublespeak with a Viennese waltz in the background is hilarious.
Come on, IA. Knock her out, PLEASE.
I still want Gore but it's looking dimmer and that saddens me.
He was supposed to be on Jay Leno this Thursday. But with the script writers on strike that won't happen. Some were expecting him to announce then.
puddle, I just may do the same and write in Gore. Unless we can get a good progressive third party going.
Whatta mess.
Juan Manzano earns a national Future Farmers award for his beehives.
By Susie Pakoua Vang / The Fresno Bee
IVANHOE -- Juan Manzano and his family left Mexico for the small farming community of Woodlake nearly nine years ago.
Manzano, who was 10 at the time, spoke no English and would often return home from school and cry because he didn't understand homework assignments, said his father, Juan Manzano Sr.
"When he asked me for help, I wouldn't have any words to say because I didn't know how to help him," Manzano said.
The elder Manzano found himself speechless once again Thursday as he searched for words to describe his son, who recently received one of the top National FFA Organization awards for a beekeeping project.
"I have no words," Manzano finally mustered, "I'm just so happy."
About 1,500 students nationwide competed for the "proficiency" award for the specialty animal category. Manzano, who started with one beehive when he joined FFA as a freshman at Woodlake High School, now has 1,000 hives.
For the past four years, he has traveled up and down the state, taking his bees to pollinate fruit trees and pulling several tons of honey. full article: http://www.fresnobee.com/local/sv/story/...
Kerry Tries to Stop Vote Caging.
Hooray for Kerry, sincerely, but where were you 3 1/2 years ago?
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Kerry_introduces_legislation_to_outlaw_voter_1105.html
... yes, it would be nice if puddle would point to her ideal candidate for either nomination.
Dennis Kucinich has the knads to represent me, as far as i know. Is he a perfect individual? I neither know or care. The spine is attribute enough for me, given his correct stance on the issues.
Would i prefer Howard or Al? Possibly, but neither is in the race.
Would i sacrifice the good just because there is no perfect? no.
Would i vote for the bad, tho in sheep's wool, even having tons of money and the perfect campaign? no way
Are aware that you are promoting DK with that link?
... soooo, some of us would watch Hillary get the nomination rather than vote for a not-perfect alternative?
Writing in Al is the same as writing in Howard - may as well write in Howard Dean.
.. soooo, some of us would watch Hillary get the nomination rather than vote for a not-perfect alternative?
It always sucks when you have to vote for someone only to prevent someone else to get elected.~
splitting Kucinich off from Edwards or Obama here will hand it to Hillary, I'm hoping Edwards has the same deal going he had last time with Dennis
... o.k., well i'm still glad as heck i don't have to make a bunch of excuses for the past votes or present policies of the guy i support.
gotta run
Kucinich/Feingold '08
OUT OF IRAQ NOW - IMPEACH CHENEY NOW - PEACE WITH IRAN NOW
you Gore nay sayers will look pretty foolish if the draft Gore effort changes politics forever and you weren't a part of it
that would actually be cHeRyl or FiReFoX that could give you the low down on the way Kucinich treats his staff and other people he doesn't feel are important enough.
I'm pretty much with Puddle if she isn't saying who she's for. I don't like any that are running.
You may not want to as do other candidate supporters.,.,,and then again, some have an answer for everyting.
So, are you voting for someone or against someone else?
I will not just toss a vote to a lesser to stop another from getting it.
I will be able to voting for a great man with vision, intellect, leadership and experience. That is my voice for my President and the person who can WIN!
Time for
a COOL
change
OTHER, and write in Al Gore!
Dear Friend,
I taught prisoner of war interrogation for 18 years to U.S. Army soldiers.
Neither I nor the Army taught torture: it's morally wrong, it endangers our
own troops who may be taken prisoner, it undermines our values, and it does
not produce reliable information.
Torture is un-American.
One year from today, we can elect a President who 'gets it' - and rejects
it.
Thirty seconds from now, you can make a difference.
Sign the petition today!
I've listened to some of our current leaders say that we should use torture
- what they call "enhanced" interrogation techniques - to combat terrorism.
Abandoning our principles is never the answer. An expert interrogator needs
to be clever, not inhumane.
Strong presidential leadership is needed to restore our nation's stature in
the eyes of the civilized world. This week, one year from the presidential
election, I am adding my name to Human Rights First's petition, urging all
of the presidential candidates to restore our nation's honor. You can do the
same .
Take 30 seconds to put your name next to mine.
Restore
what America stands for: human rights and the rule of law.
This isn't about being tough on terrorists. It's about what's in the
strategic interest of the United States. Torture doesn't produce reliable
information but it does harden hearts and minds against us, and torture by
any agency of our government puts our own troops at greater risk. It's time
to stop playing semantic games about what torture is.
If you're like me, you want a President who is truly devoted to this country
, its longstanding laws, and its fundamental values. A President who will:
* Stop shipping prisoners to countries known to torture
* Close Guantanamo
* Restore the right of habeas corpus
* Ensure that torture is never again a part of U.S. policy
Get on board - sign TODAY. This is not a
partisan
endeavor.
In one year, we could be celebrating the election of a leader who
understands what's at stake. But only if we demand it today! Thank you for
joining me and Human Rights First as we end torture and abuse in America's
name.
Yours sincerely,
Brigadier General David R. Irvine, USA (Ret.)
Human Rights First is a nonpartisan, 501(c)(3), international human rights
organization based in New York and Washington D.C. We do not favor or oppose
any candidate for public office.
You see what I mean?
The link you provide to vote for Al Gore does not bring you to a page where Al Gore is preselected.
This really sucks. This blog software! Of course you knew that.~
Post 114, jumped to being 115.
This brings me to the question of what I want to know........
Why are we still hanging out here when we have such unresponsive blogmasters(HQ) ?
115 and 120 LOL
Nothing I can do about that Sunlight. They didn't put Al Gore as a candidate. You have to choose OTHER....I gave the link to do that....... BUT I can't direct a link for Al Gore, because he isn't listed. :(
I still would like to borrow Al Gore's mailing list :)
Run Al Run!!!
I'm off folks.....
be well
sunlight ~~ I'm an optimist (against all evidence) At least the one who wrecked it is gone.
This is what I find so interesting.
When you vote you get an email thanking you for participating in the DFA Pulse Poll.
"Your first choice vote for Al Gore has been recorded."
Then it says:
Help your candidate win by getting out the vote from your friends, family, and co-workers. You can send them a personal email with this link:
http://www.DemocracyforAmerica.com/PulsePoll
which brings you to the generic http://democracyforamerica.com/pulsepoll
No Al Gore preselected.
When you select any other candidate that candidate was preselected when you clicked to vote.
Sorry, didn't mean to be so tedious.~
that is what makes Gore's total so remarkable with the deck stacked against him
discuss
on the new thread
I'm hoping Edwards has the same deal going he had last time with Dennis
Nothing like the heady thrill of manipulating democracy.
Is there any evil greater than this? There's a saying: "You're only as sick as the secrets you keep."
Cheney Pursuing Nuclear Ambitions of His Own
By Jason Leopold
t r u t h o u t | Report
Monday 05 November 2007
While Dick Cheney has been talking tough over the years about Iran's alleged nuclear activities, the vice president has been quietly pursuing nuclear ambitions of his own.
For more than two years, Cheney and a relatively unknown administration official, Deputy Energy Secretary Clay Sell, have been regularly visiting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to ensure agency officials rewrite regulatory policies and bypass public hearings in order to streamline the licensing process for energy companies that have filed applications to build new nuclear power reactors, as well as applications for new nuclear facilities that are expected to be filed by other companies in the months ahead, longtime NRC officials said.
Before being sworn in as deputy energy secretary in March 2005, Sell, a lawyer whose roots extend to Bush's home state of Texas, was a White House lobbyist working on energy issues. He had also participated in secret meetings with Cheney's Energy Task Force.
In April, Sell and Cheney had both met with NRC officials to sign off on the final regulatory policies related to new nuclear reactors. Following the meeting, Sell had alerted a group of energy companies they could begin to take advantage of the faster application process, NRC officials said.
NRC officials said that Cheney has expressed a desire to see applications for nuclear reactor projects approved by the NRC when he and Bush leave the White House in January 2009.
