The last weekend before election day!
And, according to a recent poll in the Philadelphia Bulletin, Joe Hoeffel is pulling away from the field in the Montco Commissioners race...
"The race for control of the Montgomery County Commissioners is extremely tight according to an exclusive poll by The Bulletin of the most likely, or "super voters".
"The poll indicates Democrat former commissioner and former congressman Joseph Hoeffel is likely assured one of the three council seats being vied for by the four candidates in the Nov. 6."
That's great news, but (you knew there was a "but" coming) the same poll shows Ruth Damsker in a virtual dead-heat with the Republican candidates. Ruth has been valiantly slogging away as the minority commissioner for 7 years and has certainly earned our respect and deserves a majority seat on the new commission.
With only 8 days left, this race is all about voter turnout and the margin of victory is going to be a slim one, so please, do whatever you can to help push Ruth ahead in the only poll that matters, the one on November 6. EVERY LAST VOTE WILL FIGURE LARGE IN RUTH'S VICTORY.
"The poll of 1,335 Montgomery County super voters has a margin of error of 2.5 percent; meaning Castor, Matthews and Damsker are in a VIRTUAL DEAD HEAT for the second elected position on the board."
MontcoDFA will be making one last push as a team at our monthly meeting this week. Meet us at Allyson Schwartz's campaign office to work the phones for Ruth and Joe.
Please attend our Monthly Meeting on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 7:00 PM. You can RSVP at:

Dean is first. Let's give him DFA's endorsement!
WHAT? Andrew didn't get enough time. I'm staying on his thread!
Sorry about the double posting. I have moved this post back. It will be front paged again tonight starting at 8pm to give Andrew White a bit more time in the top spot.

Gore scheduled for the Jay Leno show, 11/08
November 16 – Filing Deadline for New Hampshire Primary. If Gore announces on the 8th, he'll miss the following filing deadlines......
October 23– Filing Deadline for Michigan Primary
November 1– Filing Deadline for Georgia Primary
November 1– Filing Deadline for South Carolina Primary
November 2 – CNN Debate
Democratic candidates debate on CNN. Cosponsored by Nevada Democratic Party.
November 5 – Filing Deadline for Illinois Primary
Michigan is a no-go anyway since good Dems are supposed to boycott it.
Illinois is the home state of Obama and Hillary.
GA and SC? Big deal.
And missing the Nov. 2 debate would be good for Gore since he wouldn't be lowering himself to the level of the others and giving them a platform to attack him.
Waiting for Goredot is smart politics.
"I seriously believe we have to start asking questions about his mental health." If there's not something wrong with him, then there is something wrong with us." Dennis Kucinich in an interview in Phil. tonight.
Someone finally said what many are thinking.

Your song sounds like it came from the Rovian Repertoir.
Evidently Her Highness Hillary thinks no one has the right to challenge her.

An appreciation for David Reiter's post here earlier. He showed more awareness of the situation here and picked up on some of nuances in feelings. Most of the other Florida bloggers are just spouting state party talking points. His post is compared to that of Matt Stoller the other day. What a difference.

This part was very true:
"What was kind of disturbing, is what I did not hear. There was much talk of how the net/grass roots can help the Party, but no talk of the other way around...what they can do for the net/grass roots. No talk of how what we say in blogs or discuss in our groups or DEC meetings around the state will be acted upon...it was a definite feeling that we are their tools and work for them as oposed to the other way around. To me, this highlights a major problem within our political system that we see as a recurring theme: Our representatives forget that they work for us, and fail to listen...the war, health care, and global warming are but 3 examples of our cries for help falling on deaf ears. This remains true with the Party as a whole, it seems, and we must continue to work to change "
Yes, at all levels the party considers what we can do for them....but never what they can do for us. They ignore.us.
Take their money, use their energy, but then distance yourselves from them.

Don't know if you're old enough to remember the old ad, "It's not nice to fool MOTHER NATURE," complete with lightning bolt and a raccoon covering his eyes.
Hillary should have been that actress, she would have been good at it.

Just a few comments after the first half hour of the debate. I think everyone is doing well; but I thought Dodd was very impressive. Everyone is going after Clinton; she's holding her own, but you can tell she's ticked off.
dodd's looking especially good in the debate tonight. i'm even warming to dennis a little. hillary's getting way too much time to speak. they've even placed her physically in the center of the stage. edwards is doing a fair job of pointing out the holes in hillary's actions/statements. obama, much less so. its like he's too nice or something? he isn't inspiring confidence?
I hope they keep on her until she loses it.
Glad to hear Dodd's doing well. Other has regained momentum in our poll and is holding him off. I'm intrigued enough to order an "Other 2008" bumper sticker. ;-)

mprov, thanks for the link to the debate on C-SPAN. I must be getting a rusty brain. C-SPAN is always the place to go on the web when you don't have cable.
If looks could kill; Edwards would be dead!
Ummm, maybe I'll go walk the dog. This is not a debate; it's a jerk circle.
Take that any way you want.

Thanks, Floridagal...I just calls 'em like I sees 'em. Also thanks for alerting me to my post being picked up on...its always nice to know someone is reading (despite my typos :-))
Who is Madfloridian??? Is it a DFAer?
You just can't help but love Joe Biden. : ) They won't elect him as President, but he'd sure be a cool one! He'd actually be FUN. And 'interesting', too - with the experience, a sense of humor and SMART. And he always talks to the American people - straight across. He'll sure be helping the Democrats turn this mess around after 2008!
And Hillary will win - and Bill will fix the foreign policies - and JOE will be out in front with his famous smile. And Dodd and Edwards and Kucinich will all make us proud! The best of the best Democrats - and human beings. And Al ....will be saving the world from global warming.
It just makes me PROUD to see this whole group up there - wanting peace and good things for the American people AND the world. They are all caring, real people. PROUD TO BE A DEMOCRAT!
UNLIKE watching the blah, war hawking, slandering, spinning, Bush Clones, Republican candidates.
OH --- and of course - Barrack Obama. The 'gentle' one. A great human being and Democrat. What a future he'll have.
Rising fear of energy crisis this winter
Electricity shortages and gas supply problems predicted to push bills up
Terry Macalister
Wednesday October 31, 2007
The Guardian
Britain faces the prospect of power shortages and soaring prices this winter after the National Grid warned of a shortfall in electricity-generating capacity yesterday. The alert coincides with a surge in gas prices, which are now 40% higher than in continental Europe, and the confirmation that a vital import plant in South Wales will not be operational this winter.

Don't cry for me Argentina...Sufferin' on the homefront. Some private Btitish contractors are doing quite well, I'm sure. So, there are winners and losers in Quagmires.
Losers: British people and the Royal Army
Winners: Private British Security Contractors
Thanks for saying what I'm afraid to.
dodd wants to decriminalize pot. reduce the prison population.
3 calls for impeachment and counting...
Let me guess. Kucinich, Dodd, Richardson. Gravel would make 4.
dodd wants to decriminalize pot. reduce the prison population.
Now if he'll only stay a real liberal after he drops out and goes back to DC.

Hillary voted for the Kyl-Lieberman amendment which could lead us down the path of war with Iran. She has stated that her 2002 vote on Iraq was a vote for diplomacy, it was a vote giving Bush authorization to go to war.

Yes Barack is a gentle man, but he has strength, inner strength.
I can't believe they asked Kucinich about the UFO incident.
Clinton stumbled, she got caught double talking.
Committee Seeks Information about Blackwater Immunity
Chairman Henry A. Waxman writes Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to ask who conferred immunity on the Blackwater security guards involved in the September 16 shooting, who authorized the grant of immunity, and when did Secretary Rice and other senior State Department officials learn about the immunity.

Like who compiled that list to have those US Attorneys fired. These questions deserve some answers so we can get down to the bottom of a very serious matter.
SF Folk -- earthquake? On KOS a blogger said she 'ducked and covered' in S'vale now? Nothing on the wires yet?
Are any Republicans stepping forward and demanding accountability from State?
32. Yep, you'd feel this one in the South Bay
http://www.mercurynews.com/
5.6 earthquake hits near Alum Rock
A 5.6 magniture earthquake centered near Alumn Rock in San Jose struck at 8:04 tonight. The quake was felt across the Bay Area.
Felt the quake bigtime here, about 30 miles south of me. Felt like a giant hammer came down on the roof and my chair jumped around for several seconds. Really cool, since no one (that I've heard of) has been hurt.
People still at the office felt it as well. They are about 50 miles away. Pretty good shaker!
I call on the dysfunctional Republican party to step forward and demand accountability from the State Department. I know accountability was a foreign topic during the first six years of the humiliating and frustrating Iraq War. However, I think it is imperative that both sides of the aisle come together and demand accountability. So, I call on the Republican leadership in both chambers to concentrate less on denying heathcare coverage to MILLIONS of American children and concentrate more on holding the Bush administration accountable for its Iraq policy or lack thereof.
During the last Oversight hearings, it was found out that corruption investigations have to to be approved by PM Maliki before they can advance. It was said that a corruption investigation involving his cousin, the Transportation Minister, was halted. Now, I don't believe members of the Iraqi cabinet need to be immunized from the law....kind of like these Blackwater personnel. Therefore, the Republicans have a key role to play. Will they continue to sit back, do nothing and act as enablers for whats going on at State or will they demand accountability?
32. ya, nice little 4.0 or something. lasted for maybe 45 seconds. personally, i like the ride. lol!
Hey mprov!
5.6 near Alum Rock
Lots of fun on this side. No damage reported thankfully.
Hope you've been well!
ya, denise, it (my building) wiggled real good, but nothing even fell off of a shelf...
Well how nice that an earthquake to top off the day. I interviewed for a job (different company, still meeting planning) today and I hope that was a message from above that they should hire me - or else! LOL
Take care all - missed the debate. Will have to view it online.

Read their lips.
41. where's a slippery rug when you need on. all of them on their asses i say!!!
This Blackwater scandal is extremely important because we are talking about a company who allows their personnel to seemingly run roughshod in Iraq. This endangers the life of Iraqis and negatively affects the effort on the ground of our men and women in uniform as they pursue an elusive guerrilla enemy. It is bad enough that these contractors make gobs more money than our brave men and women, but the military (low-ranking) are held accountable (scapegoated) when they participate in atrocities, such as Abu Ghraib....where hundreds, if not thousands, of Iraqis were humiliated and tortured
Arizona is so dull. No earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, fires, avalanches, or hurricanes. And even our heat waves and droughts aren't as bad as the ones back east.
David, Madfloridian is a die hard Deaniac and DFA er, who is not especially happy with Florida right now. The bloggers in Florida owe the chairman of the DNC some honest explanationsl
It was handled badly. Your post is the first that showed that there really is turmoil and dissension where there ought not to be any at all.
Keep up the good work.
Here are most posts since the fiasco started.
