Last Friday evening at 7:30 PM, the Bush administration published new rules for the State Children's Health Insurance Program(SCHIP). Under George Bush's new rules, some poor children must prove they've been without health insurance coverage for the last twelve months prior to making application to SCHIP.Oklahoma is one of the 19 states directly affected by this new ruling and some of the other governors are speaking out about the unfairness of this ruling.
Gov. Henry, we can't hear you, speak louder!

Subject: Join us for our September 7th Campaign Announcement!
For the past two years, we've worked hard to create change in the 4th district and across the country. And from the grassroots to the netroots, and all points inbetween, our growing momentum is undeniable. But make no mistake about it, our mission is far from complete.
As you know, Jan and I promised to be in this battle for the long haul, and we keep our promises. So on September 7th, I'm making my intentions for 2008 "official," and taking the next step towards a brighter future for all of us.
Grassroots Democracy is about everyone being involved, so this year's "Take Off" event will be an old fashioned political barnstorming tour throughout the Fourth District. If you can, please show your support and join us at any one of our four campaign announcement celebrations in El Dorado, Placer, Nevada, and Plumas Counties.

BERNIE SANDERS, GOD LOVE HIM
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rep-bernie-sanders/fox-attacks-iran_b_61578.html
"Fox Attacks: Iran" is a bold effort to provide Americans with a different view of our policy toward Iran than the one Fox News keeps pushing on us. While Fox beats the drums for war, Robert Greenwald has produced documentary evidence that unmasks the 'coverage' for what it is: propaganda to get Americans ready for a Bush administration attack on yet another Middle Eastern nation. Robert has done something remarkable. He has used his extraordinary media skills to make a short video - only three minutes - to educate the American people, using the Internet as a way to connect us.
The issue here is pretty simple. The war in Iraq, which Bush misled us into, has been a disaster. It caused us, and the Iraqi people, a great deal of suffering: more than 3,700 American casualties, more than 70,000 Iraqi casualties, 2 million Iraqis displaced within Iraq by violence fear, and another 2 million Iraqis living as refugees in Syria and Jordan. It has cost our nation a great deal of money, money which could have been better used in educating our children, providing health care to every American, rebuilding our bridges and infrastructure, and helping us move toward a new green economy.
And, ironically, it has made us less safe from the very serious problem of international terrorism.
Osama bin Laden is alive and well and, according to the National Intelligence Estimate, Al Quada is growing stronger throughout the world.
In Afghanistan, the Taliban is reemerging as a powerful adversary, using terrorist skills they learned in Iraq, and the situation there is becoming more difficult. One of the reasons for the reemergence of the Taliban is, in my view, that in order to fight the war in Iraq, the Bush administration has diverted military, intelligence and reconstruction resources away from Afghanistan.
In the midst of all this, the United States, because of Bush's actions, is held in lower regard by the international community than at any time in the modern history of our country.
And, now, there are increasing rumblings that Bush and Cheney are thinking of waging an attack on Iran. They are considering the possibility of bombing Iran's nuclear facilities, and are also considering the possibility of cross-border raids into Iraqi territory.
I believe that the American people understand that with all our problems in Iraq and Afghanistan, and with our active duty military and National Guard significantly over-extended, the last thing in the world that we want is a war in Iran. That is why I introduced S. Con Res. 13 - which would express the sense of Congress that the president should not initiate military action against Iran without first obtaining authorization from Congress.

SPP Agent Provocateur Cops Caught Red Handed Attempting To Incite Violence

Peaceful protestors at the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) summit in Montebello have captured sensational video of hired agent provocateurs attempting to incite rioting and turn the protest violent, only to encounter brave resistance from real protest leaders.
A video, posted on YouTube, shows three young men, their faces masked by bandannas, mingling Monday with protesters in front of a line of police in riot gear. At least one of the masked men is holding a rock in his hand, reports the Canadian Press .

Florida Democrats may have Alberto Gonzales investigate Howard Dean and the DNC. They don't use the word Gonzales, and the aides are appropriately embarassed when pinned down. But that is the gist of it all.
Bill Nelson and his posse of big bad Florida democrats are heading out of Dodge to take care of that upstart at the DNC who has the nerve to follow the rules.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/1452
The DNC spokesperson had a good response to MSNBC today:
"In response to this letter, a DNC spokeswoman said, “We will wait and see what the Rules and Bylaws Committee decides on Saturday. We hope Florida will do the right thing and work with the DNC to comply with the rules they voted for."
THE SURGE IN ABSURDITY
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-moore/the-surge-in-absurdity_b_61486.html
Is there anyone in America who doesn't already know what Petraeus and the president are going to tell the public? Here's a guess from someone who lives a good chunk of continent away from the Beltway: Progress is finally being made; it's not as much as we want but it would be wrong for America to abandon the Iraqi people now just as things are starting to improve.
The president and Hillary and General Petraeus can all talk about the al Anbar Province but that doesn't change what is happening in the rest of Iraq. It does, however, gloss over a few important points about Anbar. Bush does not expect the American public to question why the Sunnis in Anbar are cooperating with US forces. But there are some obvious conclusions to be reached about the state of the war in Anbar.
The White House and the Pentagon have made much of the alliances between Sunni leaders and American forces. They have combined in an effort to push back al Qaeda insurgents in al Anbar. That may be only part of their motivation, however. It's just as likely that the Sunnis, who dominate Anbar Province, are seeking to keep the majority Shiites at a distance. Isn't it possible that American soldiers are being used to facilitate the initial steps of Iraq's Balkanization while they fight to keep the city of Ramadi and the wider province of al Anbar free from al Qaeda's control?
White House Manual Details How to Deal With Protesters
Washington Post | August 22, 2007
Peter Baker
Not that they're worried or anything. But the White House evidently leaves little to chance when it comes to protests within eyesight of the president. As in, it doesn't want any.
A White House manual that came to light recently gives presidential advance staffers extensive instructions in the art of "deterring potential protestors" from President Bush's public appearances around the country.
Among other things, any event must be open only to those with tickets tightly controlled by organizers. Those entering must be screened in case they are hiding secret signs. Any anti-Bush demonstrators who manage to get in anyway should be shouted down by "rally squads" stationed in strategic locations. And if that does not work, they should be thrown out.
History Channel "Expert" Spins Conspiracy Yarn
Contradicts official story, claims WTC 7 fires began before either tower had collapsed
Prison Planet | August 23, 2007
Paul Joseph Watson
One of the experts the History Channel cited to debunk claims that the collapse of WTC 7 was a controlled demolition expert during its 9/11 Conspiracies: Fact or Fiction special Sunday night, spun a wild conspiracy yarn of his own, claiming that Building 7 burned for eight hours having caught fire before either of the twin towers collapsed.
Matthys Levy, P.E. is a structural engineer and also author of the book Why Buildings Fall Down .
He was one of the chief engineers for a study commissioned by WTC leaseholder Silverstein Properties Inc. to support a $7 billion insurance claim for the destruction of the World Trade Center complex. The investigation concluded that the twin towers collapsed as a result of the failure of support columns but the study did not touch upon why Building 7 fell.

THE AMERICAN CENTURY?
http://www.alternet.org/audits/60489/?page=4
When viewed globally and in the great stretch of history, the notion of American exceptionalism that drove the neoconservatives to proclaim the Project for the New American Century in the late 20th century -- adopted so wholeheartedly by the Bush administration in this one -- is nothing new. Other superpowers have been there before and they, too, have witnessed the loss of their prime position to rising powers.
No superpower in modern times has maintained its supremacy for more than several generations. And, however exceptional its leaders may have thought themselves, the United States, already clearly past its zenith, has no chance of becoming an exception to this age-old pattern of history.

My apologies. It was a little short-sighted of me, but I think it was pretty obvious the statement was mine, or else it was ambiguous to reader as to who did say it.
THIS IS OBSCENE - THAT'S WHY IT DOESN'T MAKE THE 6:00 NEWS
Toll Rises Above 500 in Iraq Bombings
BAGHDAD, Aug. 21 — One week after a series of truck bombs hit a poor rural area near the Syrian border, the known casualty toll has soared to more than 500 dead and 1,500 wounded, according to the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, making it the bloodiest coordinated attack since the American-led invasion in 2003....
In the area of last week’s attack, the desert villages dominated by Yazidis — a Kurdish-speaking sect whose faith combines Islamic teachings with other ancient religions — struggled to cope. Residents and officials say a constant flow of burials has filled the streets amid the stench of death arising from mounds of beige brick
Tecken Kuli Saleem, 39, said she had stayed alive for 12 hours under the rubble, but emerged without her family.
“I was pregnant in my fourth month and lost my baby in the attack,” she said. “I can’t talk much. The criminals killed my family, and I don’t know where my children are, whether they’re dead or alive. They’re missing.”....
Iraqi officials said no suspects had been arrested. Sunni extremists, who have been warring with Kurds in the northern cities of Mosul and Kirkuk, are believed to be responsible for the attack.
Yazidis may have been targets because of their proximity to Syria’s porous border; for their beliefs (they worship an angel whose name is sometimes translated as Satan in the Koran); or as retribution for an episode in April, when some Yazidis stoned a young Yazidi woman to death for marrying a Sunni.
For now, the Iraqi and international effort remains focused on helping the grieving, the wounded and the destitute. American troops have helped distribute water and other emergency supplies.
Dr. Hakki of the Red Crescent Society said at least three trucks full of aid had come from the Turkish government....

thanks for the kind words - somedays I can easily ignore it and some days I cannot. Too much is at stake, not only for our Party but for the country and the world.
This negative pollution to which I object - thinly-veiled as "tough love" for the party, or "strong medicine" as Phil called it - just goes too far, and is too much for one to tolerate. And those who indulge in this proverbial smorgasborg of unfettered criticism, seldom have anything nice to say about anyone, except those who agree with them.
I'm sure a lot of bloggers and lurkers find it tiresome. If you noticed, except for Phil and Puddle (who is usually nasty to me anyway,) and the two subjects of my anger, nobody really objected to my "obscene" tirade directed at Sitka and John. These two sing the same rotten negative songs, day after day, while they sit on their asses and do nothing substantial to improve things, and never note the hardship of the dead and dying masses all over this world.
If you noticed, Mike argued with me too, but we had a civil disagreement, and I used no "bad words" with him.
I just use the words I feel that describes it (them) most appropriately. I think the words I used (don't want to bother Phil by repeating them) are relatively mild terms, where I come from.

It has nothing to do with the surge or the "war on terrorism" but it does show what a disaster the occupation and the central government of Bush's "democracy" has begotten.
It also shows how important it is to have an ethnic decentralization that Biden and others all over the world have become increasingly aware. It shows that Al Qaeda's success has little to do with fighting Americans as much as Al Qaeda does take advantage of chaos and hardship. If we can bring order to the ethnic chaos, and help each group feel secure within its respective territory, the Al Qaeda problem will lose momentum and dissolve.
Consequently, if we can assemble all the ethnic groups to execute a master plan to provide regional security from such ethnic terrorism, with the help of the international communiy, there will be no need for Americans to be there fighting, from either the Left wing or Right wing perspective.
ALERT OF THE WEEK:
USDA SAYS ALMONDS LABELED AS 'RAW' OR 'ORGANIC' MUST BE PASTEURIZED
Under pressure from industrial agriculture lobbyists, the USDA has quietly approved a new regulation that will effectively end distribution of raw almonds, while putting many smaller almond farmers out of business. The regulation is scheduled to go into effect on September 1st, unless thousands of consumers take action now. The rule requires pasteurization of almonds, including organic, yet allows those same almonds to continue to be labeled as "raw". Nutritionists point out that raw, organic almonds are far superior, in terms of nutrition, to pasteurized almonds. One of the FDA-recommended pasteurization methods involves the use of propylene oxide, which is classified as a carcinogen in California and is banned in Canada, Mexico, and the European Union. Organic and family-scale almond farmers are protesting the proposed rule, saying it will effectively put them out of business, since the minimum price for the pasteurization equipment is $500,000.

I saw one of my top 10 ALL TIME MOVIES tonight and you need to rush right out and rent it from Netflix or Blockbuster - it's been out there for years but just been released in the good ole US of A and I think I know why. Don't read any reviews on Amazon bc it gives away the plot. I cried at the end of the movie. The movie is called The Lives of Others and it's German w/ subtitles. About GDR in 1984, about 5 years before the Wall came down. It is so very moving. Run right out and rent it and then tell all your friends.
I tell you boys and girls we need to forget this Dem/Repug stuff and the next president and all and worry and pray and maybe storm the Bastille as it were for our poor now defunct civil liberties and our totally b*llless Congresssheeple. This movie will have you agreeing with me.
I got interested bc the singer I was in love with before I fell in love with the dead tango composer is a product of the GDR having been born there and the wall came down when he was about 25, already married, a Dad and a member of the State Opera. Trivia in which you were not interested.

It's very clear that the 3 major religions are bad for women and good for war-mongerers, laden with testoterone and short on heart.
We need to throw out the male gods. Now, along with Cheney,.
Every single woman in this country (and others) should be voting for peace candidates if she wants to be free from eternal wars and biblical subjugation by men. Those who vote for anyone else will be voting for their own misery...losing husbands and sons in wars, never mind. I don't want to get started.
We also need to send into space every bible, torah and koran in existence and start over. The idea of god is fine as long as it's not a he or she and used as a battering ram. IMO
How do these people get around "thou shalt not kill?"
I noticed how the good Xtian family said that disobedience was the original sin, whereas blaming others comes closer to the truth of that myth.
Jimmy Carter was excellent in his perceptions and thoughtfulness. If you don't believe Genesis literally, the rest of the bible falls apart.
There are 2 creations in Genesis. How many preachers preach that? And how long was that deep sleep that came over the water or was it the earth?
53% of Americans believe in creationism. Dumbed down indeed, incapable of independent thought, very incurious and they will have their way with this country unless we start educating them.

Near-death events have triggered out-of-body experiences Experts have found a way to trigger an out-of-body experience in volunteers. The experiments, described in the Science journal, offer a scientific explanation for a phenomenon experienced by one in 10 people.
Two teams used virtual reality goggles to con the brain into thinking the body was located elsewhere.
The visual illusion plus the feel of their real bodies being touched made volunteers sense that they had moved outside of their physical bodies.
The researchers say their findings could have practical applications, such as helping take video games to the next level of virtuality so the players feel as if they are actually inside the game.
