Next Campaign Training Stop: Atlanta, Georgia!

Written by: Sheri Divers on Aug 20, 2007 4:00 PM EDT

Seats are going fast at this year's DFA Training Academy in Atlanta and there is little wonder why. The DFA Training Academy has an incredible track record of success.  Big league victories like freshmen Congressman Jerry McNerney in California. Important state level victories like Iowa State Representative Elesha Gayman and Knox County Commissioner Mark Harmon in Tennessee all prove that the DFA Training Academy leads to success on any race anywhere. You don't want to miss this 2 day campaign training event on September 8 and 9.

RSVP today: www.dfalink.com/gatraining

The DFA Training Academy is dedicated to empowering the grassroots with the skills to take our country back. Our comprehensive training is open to anyone looking to learn proven and practical campaign strategies and tactics. You'll learn how to frame your message, raise money, and run a successful grassroots campaign from professionals with decades of experience.

Dozens of progressives from throughout the area will gather to learn the skills that will elect progressives in 2008 and beyond.  DFA Chair Jim Dean will be joining us. Will you be there too?

Sign up today: www.dfalink.com/gatraining

Whether you're an old hand or just starting out, you don't want to miss this event. I can't wait to see you there.

Arshad Hasan
Training Director

P.S. If you can't make it to the training you can still do your part to help train progressives in your area.  Sponsor a fellow activist's training:

http://www.DemocracyforAmerica.com/Sponsorship

Every activist you help fund has the potential to manage a State Senate, City Council or U.S. Congressional campaign. They may even decide to run for office. Your sponsorship of the DFA Training Academy will help create a new generation of progressive activists.

Looks to me like it is gonna be a packed house in Atlanta, as usual, there is no lack of zeal or progressives 'down here.'

Hey, Tim!, you know i'm allergic to the city but will have to make this one. I'm not worried about the extra ten bucks for 'the day of', just the getting up and dressed around 5a.m. to make it on time.

These are some of the best of the best on the list of attendees, wish they'd all move up here with me. Too much fresh air here i guess. lol

i do want to make clear that I am not a Dodd operative, nor have I committed to support him.  However, since the traditional media seem inclined to focus almost exclusively on the people most likely to buy lots of advertising from them, it only seems fair to tap the alternatives for the others. Here's a link for some video interviews

I think there's something wrong with the internets today.  bluehampshire was off-line for no identified reason. And KOS has been very slow even though the traffic doesn't seem high.

Glad to see Howard Dean getting such an overwhelming welcome in Iowa.  Well deserved.

 "As Dean marched onto the stage before the cameras started rolling, the auditorium erupted in applause as the couple of thousand activists leaped to their feet and roared approval."

And another notice take of this.

Countdown to air on NBC! (Well, for a day) Updated

by Hell Upside Down [Subscribe]

Mon Aug 20, 2007 at 09:18:55 AM PDT

Via TVNewser, the New York Times is reporting that Keith Olberman's irreverent show is getting a tryout on NBC on Sunday before an NFL pre-season game.

From the times article:

" ‘Countdown’ is rocketing right now over at MSNBC — its ratings are going through the roof," said Phil Griffin, senior vice president of NBC News. (In July Mr. Olbermann’s show averaged 721,000 viewers, an increase of 88 percent over last July, according to MSNBC.) Mr. Griffin added, "The world has changed, and I think people have come in line with the smart, focused approach he has on the show." No immediate plans for additional network appearances of "Countdown" have been made, but Mr. Griffen did not rule them out. "It may be the first of several times you see Olbermann on the network," he said.

So, sound the bells and get the word out to give Keith a nice showing on his show's big-time network premiere! And then send some Keith-lovin' NBC's way and let them know how much we appreciate them giving Keith an chance to gain a wider audience.

viewerservices@msnbc.com

Here's the full press release, posted on Countdown's blog, The News Hole. Those concerned NBC is going to have Keith tone it down for the larger audience can take comfort in his quote toward the end.

SPECIAL EDITION OF "COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN" TO AIR ON NBC SUNDAY AUGUST 26 AT 7 PM ET/6 PM CT

SECAUCUS, N.J., August 20, 2007 – MSNBC's Keith Olbermann will bring his unique take on the day's events, from politics to pop culture, to a primetime network audience this Sunday night. A special edition of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" will air on Sunday, August 26th at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT on NBC, leading into the network's "Sunday Night Football" pre-season NFL matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers, live at 8 p.m. ET. Olbermann is joining the network's "Football Night in America" studio team this season. The special edition of "Countdown" will be broadcast live from MSNBC's studios.

"Countdown's" network debut comes on the heels of the program's stellar performance this year. According to Nielsen Media Research, the program attracted 721,000 viewers in July, up an incredible 88% over July 2006. "Countdown" continues to be the number two cable news program at 8 p.m. ET, beating CNN by a 20% margin for the year.

"I'm delighted we're getting a chance to show off in a bigger storefront window," said Olbermann. "It's much better than trying to take it door-to-door. I do advise new viewers to sit well back from their screens."

You know what's so bittersweet is it was the thunderous applause that caused the 'Dean scream' in the first place.

I just got a Jim Dean DFA e-mail from Oct. 2006. in my inbox.

I'm saying Daniel Rooney gave us fair warning lol

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For two years Democracy for America has been preparing for this week. You helped recruit these candidates. DFA helped train their staff and volunteers. Donors from across the nation made these races competitive. Thousands of volunteers are working on these campaigns in the closing days because they want a real change in direction for America.
Don't let the Republicans' dirty campaigning in the last week derail our chances for a Democratic Congress. Consider a final donation to these congressional candidates today:
Thank you for all your work on behalf of the DFA-List, and for great progressive candidates everywhere.
All the best,
Jim Dean
Chair
Yes, indeedy, we are very concerned here in Portland.
'Noble Resolve' begins
The U.S. military "experiment" known as "Operation Noble Resolve 07-2" begins today in Portland, with command centers in Virginia, Texas, Guam, Korea and two locations in Oregon: Salem and Portland. Despite the assurances of the US Joint Forces command that the exercise is "purely a computer-based simulation of an earthquake scenario in Portland", many people in the area are extremely concerned.
Some have mentioned the possibility of the simulation "going live", as happened with the Vigilant Guardian exercise on September 11, 2001. But even without it "going live", there is the little fact that the US military is NOT the organization commissioned by Congress to respond to disasters, and by doing so, as they did in New Orleans following Katrina, they violate the long-standing tradition of 'posse comitatus', which forbids the military from engaging in domestic policing activities.
  Grunts and shouts echo through a spacious sunlit gymnasium as a dozen teenage boys fire their fists and perfect their kicks.
The brand new martial arts school is China's gift to the children of Kazakhstan's oil rich province of Kyzlorda, a place where Beijing has been flexing its energy muscle.
Scores In Congress Protest North American Union Agenda
22 Congressmen write to President in opposition to SPP as secret Montabello confab begins
Infowars.net | August 20 , 2007
Steve Watson
As a secretive "Security and Prosperity Partnership" (SPP) meeting between the Mexican, Canadian and U.S. heads of states begins this week in Quebec, 22 members of the House of Representatives have put their names to a letter to president Bush demanding their concerns be heeded and that the administration back off the stealth program.
Documents Reveal Bush/CFR "Administrative Coup D'etat" of America
Who Says the North American Union Is a Conspiracy Theory?
"As you travel to Montebello, Canada later this month for a summit with your Canadian and Mexican counterparts, we want you to be aware of serious and growing concerns in the U.S. Congress about the so-called Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) you launched with these nations in 2005," the letter said.
Veteran reporter and SPP expert Jerome Corsi brought the letter to light in his hugely popular World Net Daily column
While the letter authors express their support for the president's "desire to promote good relations with our neighbors to the north and south," they are worried about the secretive manner in which SPP is being conducted and concerned it "may actually undermine our security and sovereignty."
