The Truth About Ned Lamont by iowabosox [Subscribe] [Edit Diary]Sat Aug 12, 2006 at 08:48:33 AM PDTWe've all heard lots of spin and hype about Ned Lamont. Well here are the facts: Ned Lamont doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants. Ned Lamont does not sleep. He waits. Ned Lamont is the reason why Waldo is hiding. Ned Lamont counted to infinity - twice. When Ned Lamont does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down. Ned Lamont is so fast, he can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head. Ned Lamont's hand is the only hand that can beat a Royal Flush. Ned Lamont can lead a horse to water AND make it drink. Ned Lamont doesn't wear a watch, HE decides what time it is. Ned Lamont gave Mona Lisa that smile. Ned Lamont can slam a revolving door.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ been a year thanks Ct for putting that (I) behind Joementum's name maybe David can share that kos diary with Ned and give him a smile
Dodd has a Dean streak in him; and he has a good web team.
Howard Dean is absolutely NUMBER ONE!
He may be carrying a heavy load for the Democrats, but man, he surely delivers!
3. I agree, out of all the current candidates, he is the only one that really does share some similarities.
eveyone else just tries to claim it.
Bernie Sanders gets a HOWARDLY from me today for holding up the nomination of Jim Nussle as Budget Director.
tNussle is an architect of the great heist and resulting deficit
that needs a full airing by the Senate in September
off to the fair to do table work for the local party, with a lovely bouquet from my wife's flower beds, maybe she should get recognition for that from me (ya think)
OH goody, OH GOODY. Reports have been revised to only 8 people missing in MN now.
Oh, I hope those names will be removed soon too, as reports come in that they are home. But either way, much better than 30.
Interesting reference to Dean's support of the Iraq War Resolution.
From the last thread about how we would react to having a pro or famous peerson in our platoon.
No problem at all except he would be expected to buy all the beer on leave.
Why does Gonzales need to go? He has undermined the integrity of the Department of Justice, and turned it into a political arm of the Bush White House.
Just this week, The Washington Post reported that Gonzales' Justice Department urged a federal prosecutor to "slow down" in his case against the manufacturer of the addictive painkiller OxyContin.
The Justice Department made the request at the behest of an executive for the drugmaker, according to the Post. And when the prosecutor settled the case anyway, his name appeared on a list of U.S. Attorneys to be fired.
Yet despite the mounting evidence of political meddling in the firing of U.S. prosecutors—and the likelihood that Gonzales perjured himself before Congress last week to protect Bush's illegal spying on Americans—Dick Cheney this week called the Congressional investigation of Gonzales a "witch hunt" and told CBS that he's a "big fan" of one of the worst Attorneys General in our nation's history.
We're no fans of Gonzales. We're fans of the Constitution. And to restore the integrity of the U.S. Department of Justice, Gonzales has got to go.
Please, sign your name today—and forward this email on to 5 friends or family members who agree that it's time for Gonzales to resign:
There are still eleven cars to be searched in the water under the bridge, we can pray they all swam to safety. In a land with 10,000 lakes most everyone can swim.
...renounce leaders like Bush/Cheney and vow never to make that mistake again...........it aint gonna happen...
--------
???
Not sure at all (many of them did renounce Nixon)...so what?
That's why there is another question EVEN if they do renounce Bush/Cheney what will it change? I assume, NOTHING!
POLICY won't change significantly with the new President, as we already see with Obama and Clinton.
"Renouncing" and "vowing" only does not work (for either Party).
'At least 50 dead, 148 missing' as Sierra Leone ferry capsizes
1 hour, 16 minutes ago
FREETOWN (AFP) - At least 58 people are dead and 148 are missing after a coastal ferry capsized overnight in rough seas off northern Sierra Leone, a port official said Friday.
...
The boat met "hostile weather near a coastal village called Bailor at 10:00 pm (2200 GMT) resulting in the catastrophe," Alex Koroma, a station manager for Radio Kolenten, told AFP by telephone from the region bordering Guinea.
The ports authority official in the capital said the boat was heading from Freetown to Rokumi village when it ran into a storm.
They can send Dick Cheney to attack me as much as they like, but I am not going to back down from this fight -- not while I've got you fighting with me.
I just had to say thank you for the amazing response to my request earlier this week.
It's time to know whether or not this administration is planning for the safe withdrawal of our troops -- and what they think about Congressional oversight of this war.
So far, tens of thousands of people have signed my letter to President Bush, and I need you to add your signature today to help send a clear message to the administration.
This issue is about one thing: making sure there is a plan to bring our troops home safely from Iraq. Together, we can make a difference for them.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Hillary Rodham Clinton
linda in sfnm......
Thank you for the link to Howard's speech. He is in fine campaign mode. I needed that.
I think I'm pleased that the 'top three" are just about tie in Iowa, since I'm not getting what I would like to see anyway.
It's just my sense that there is a greater chance of Gore getting in if there is no clear winner. I hope that he does, but if Gore still feels in a couple of months that he can accomplish more outside of politics, then we still have the possibility of an upset at the convention for Dean.
As for the primary, Dodd got my interest when he campaigned for Lamont. It was big for him to do that against Lieberman in Ct. Character means more to me than their rhetoric about the issues. That's why Obama's rhetoric is nothing. he lost me on the trust issue.
  I think we're using the wrong parenting technique by: Renee in OhioFri Aug 03, 2007 at 07:29:30 AM PDT
I think I've hit upon an idear. (The final "r" is a result of listening to Howard Dean's speech last night--he always does that to me!) Last night I read StealthBadger's post Obama has lost me, and this morning there was gottlieb's post about Hillary Clinton entitled God Help Us All.
And it's occurred to me that we're using the wrong parenting technique on these kids. We're using a lot of threats ("If you do/say this, I won't vote for you") and threats only get you so far. You end up having to get more intense and more blustery with them, and eventually you have to back them up. And if "I won't vote for you" is all you've got, you run out of ammo pretty quickly.
Anyway, my kids are 12 and (almost) 14 now, but when reading about all the war talk coming from the Democratic frontrunners, my mind flashed back to some lines I heard other parents use, gently, firmly, and consistently when redirecting their preschoolers. "That's not okay. People aren't for hitting. That is not a choice." Eventually it became second nature for me to talk like that. And apparently it's a hard habit to break, because this morning I found myself saying (to candidates who couldn't hear me) "Bombing is not a choice."
Maybe we need to say that, gently, firmly, and repeatedly, when the candidates can hear us.
audrey...my pleasure :)
They know a majority of folks are not enthused with what is currently there. And they need those hard core grassroots that don't just follow line to be engaged to vote for the Real Democrat. And when you have a strong principled person, they will bring in a majority of those Independent voters. That is Al Gore.
I hope and remain encouraged.
Can you imagine spending 15 years in the Arctic documenting the lives of polar bears and walruses as they struggle against their environment and the added challenge of the climate crisis?
That's just what filmmakers Adam Ravetch and Sarah Robertson did, and they turned their work into one of the most beautiful films of the year.
"Arctic Tale" follows the story of Seela -- a walrus calf -- and Nanu -- a polar bear cub -- on their journey from birth to parenthood. In addition to the day-to-day challenges they face, global warming has caused the sea ice they call their home to decline by 30% over the past half a century. Polar bears hunt on sea ice, and walruses rest on it when they come out of the sea. Without it, their survival in the desolate arctic environment is impossible.
Queen Latifah beautifully narrates the story, which my daughter Kristin helped write. While the film is both heartwarming and humorous, it truly brings to life the damage the climate crisis is doing to our planet.
Learn more about the film and find out where it's playing near you by visiting:
http://www.arctictalemovie.com
If you are looking for a film your entire family will enjoy this weekend, "Arctic Tale" is sure to please.
Thank you,
Al Gore
Search for Survivors of Sierra Leone Boat Accident Continues
By Phuong Tran
Dakar
03 August 2007
The head of Sierra Leone's navy has confirmed two bodies have been recovered and as many as 50 are feared dead from a boat accident near Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown, on Thursday. Commander Moses Miller says the search continues for more than 150 people believed to have been on board. Phuong Tran has more from VOA's West Africa Bureau in Dakar.
...
"We were able to rescue eight by the time my boys got there, and then we also discovered two corpses," he said.  "The search is still going on."
Local journalist Kelvin Lewis says boating accidents are common between July and September during Sierra Leone's rainy season. He says August is the worst and that the boat was probably overloaded.
"Most of the people who travel with these boats are traders. They take foodstuffs like several bags of rice, onions, gallons of cooking oil," he explained.  "They are loaded. These are just like a slightly bigger version of a canoe."
Joe Conason has helped lay out the case for the impeachment of the Attorney General today by recalling Gonzales' first lie to the Senate two years ago:
"It is the culmination of a process that began with his confirmation hearings in January 2005, when he baldly lied to Senator Russ Feingold.
"The Wisconsin Democrat had asked whether Mr. Gonzales, the former White House counsel, agreed with a legal memorandum suggesting that the president can authorize unlawful acts by his subordinates (such as torture). 'Does the president, in your opinion, have the authority, acting as commander in chief, to authorize warrantless searches of Americans’ homes and wiretaps of their conversations in violation of the criminal and foreign intelligence statutes of this country?'
"Hoping to evade this prescient question, Mr. Gonzales blandly declined to answer a 'hypothetical.' But when pressed he agreed that 'the president is not above the law … It is not the policy of this president to authorize actions that would be in contravention of our criminal statutes.' Then Senator Feingold asked whether, as attorney general, Mr. Gonzales would 'commit to notify Congress if the president makes this type of decision, and not wait two years until a memo is leaked about it.'
"'I will advise the Congress as soon as I reasonably can, yes sir,' he replied obsequiously, knowing that the White House had authorized wiretaps without warrants for three years by then. Eleven months later, that fact was disclosed on the front page of The New York Times, giving ample proof that Mr. Gonzales had lied to the Senate."
