Your Grassroots All-Star Winner!

Written by: Sheri Divers on Apr 26, 2007 4:32 PM EDT

Thousands of votes came in from around the country. DFA members pushed hard getting out the vote for all three Grassroots All-Star finalists -- generating incredible support for each campaign. In the end, there can be only one winner.

Lt. Colonel Charlie Brown is your 2007 DFA Grassroots All-Star!

Now it's up to us to back the endorsement up with real action. Please contribute to his campaign right now:

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/2007allstar

After Charlie Brown came within 3% of winning the district last November, Karl Rove put eight-term Republican incumbent Rep. John Doolittle on his "Priority Defense" list. You can bet that Rove will pull out all the stops to keep this seat for Republicans in 2008.

However, not all is going well for Republican Doolittle. Since the last election, the FBI raided his personal residence and has stepped up the investigation into his dealings with convicted GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Within a week of the raid, Doolittle stepped down from his position on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.

Ousting Doolittle from this rural California district will not be easy. Charlie Brown will need everything we've got and then some to beat back the GOP machine. Please contribute right now to jump start the campaign:

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/2007allstar

Last year after you made Jerry McNerney your DFA Grassroots All-Star, you helped lead him to victory against so-called unbeatable Republican incumbent Richard Pombo. Now, if we work together, we will do it again! Victory in 2008 depends on you.

Thank you for everything you do,

Jim Dean
Chair

How about we have some transparency in the voting next time?

We should have a link to the totals and how much a role IRV played in the outcome.

Dear Friends,

Which Democratic candidates will join Senator Dodd and support the Feingold-Reid legislation designed to safely end the war in Iraq?

Which will support combating climate change through a corporate carbon tax on the country's largest polluters?

We'll all find out during tonight's debate.

But sometimes sixty second answers aren't enough. Maybe you have more questions about Senator Dodd's position on a certain issue or an inquiry about the general progress of the campaign.

Here's your chance to be the moderator and ask the questions YOU want answered.

Join Deputy Campaign Manager Matt Butler, Policy Director Amos Hochstein and other campaign staffers in the "war room," LIVE on video, at 7:00.

http://ChrisDodd.com/SC_Debate

Have a question that wasn't asked during the debate?

An inquiry about the short and long-term goals of the campaign?

Whose record isn't quite matching their rhetoric?

Submit your questions during the debate, then watch for a response from the Deputy Campaign Manager, Policy Director and other staffers in real time.

http://ChrisDodd.com/SC_Debate

When the debate ends, join Congressman Xavier Becerra for more discussion and a complete wrap-up of the evening's events.

We hope you'll take us up on this unique opportunity to engage in a two-way conversation with the campaign this evening.

UH, OH, don't get me started.

...tooo late :)

I (as most know) live in Cincinnati when JK QUICKLY conceded, after promising to count every vote. That's after all those horrible reports of voting problems and incredible lines. We all were screaming and pleading for him to ask for a recount. I was even making calls from my home double checking how people voted. He was infuriating.

WELL, when he came out for our "stepitup" event to promote his book, he talked a bit about that. He's been using Al Gore to promote his book, but never thanked or acknowledged Al Gore for his efforts on Global Warming, paving the way for him to write this book and get the attention he is getting. Then someone yelled out from the audience about Bush. He said "oh, don't get me started on Bush". Then he said he "wanted to thank everyone there for their hard work and support, too bad I couldn't get you all to move to Ohio". I screached, "oh, no. He did not just say that" But he did, enough to even get my hubby to yell out "WE DID...."but I covered his mouth and didn't let him finish.

I could NOT believe he went there and blamed Ohioans that way, when he walked away....HELL, handed over the election that way.

If the Dems continue to vote to fund the Occupation of Iraq, then they are to blame as well.  Let's not be hypocrites here.  Cindy and Norman are right.

One thing's for sure. DCDems will only come as close to doing what's right as the closeness of their feet held to the fire. Cut 'em no slack.

I often wish Kerry hadn't dropped out of the prez primary. I think he learned so much from his mistakes in 2004

I imagine what he learned (or finally figured out) is that nobody likes him. In 2004 he was the default choice after the assassination of Dean.

Congrats Charlie!

Now, when you win the Special Election against Tom Sullivan after Doolittle gets convicted (or indicted and resigns to spend more time with his family), I hope you don't mind if we keep the fire lit underneath you.  ;o))

We're sure you'll do a great job, but we'll be there to remind you if the DLC'rs try to pull you over to the right.

We need to get Clean Money campaigns in CA so you don't have to worry about the DLC/corporate influence that so many succumb to.

I dunno Sitka, Kerry got nearly 50 mil votes.
I was really angry about conceding the Ohio count. The logic is the uncounted votes did not equal the difference in votes to Bush so he conceded.
But principles do count for something and the principle is to count all of the votes.

You may not like Kerry and I saw Dean as a rank amateur who had no business on the big stage. We can continue this war of words forever but it is pointless as we have a common enemy in the WH and neither of our favored candidates is running...

Sitka,
I do agree with you that if Dems fund the war then they own it. They must stand fast and force Bush to bring the troops home.

As an aside, we must all contact our elected officials and media outlets with demands to support the get-out-of-Iraq bill.
If they don't then they are just as bad as the Repubs.

Why? isnt the country that you served supposed to be free for "anybody can become president"?

Maybe its time for some "amateurs" to inherit the WH and govt in general.I mean, they couldnt do much worse as compared to the so called 'professionals'....................

Tel ya what..........you wanna really turn this country around?  Put a non politician in based on this platform.........1)nuclear freeze and reduction 2)military cuts across the board and demilitarization, 3) universal health care  4) more teachers and police  5)free college education for anyone who wants it  and a NEW Deal..................foreign policy re-asesment and immediate dialogues with all nations and factions.............0 dependance on foreign oil for transport

Now, this wont happen of course and idealistic except for a majority of the rest of the planet..............and the country is/will be declining for decades to come..................but its worth a try............

Howard Dean was great on MSNBC and CNN today. Video is up at the DNC for the first one.

http://www.dnc.org/a/2007/04/governor_dean_o_27.php

Haven't seen a video from CNN yet, but will put the transcript later. He blasted Rudi for not being prepared for 9/11.

Also I am getting concerned about many of our Southern Baptists. Since I was one of them, I can speak out. I think they are becoming more about control of women than about religion. In fact more about control, period.

Here's a couple of the Conservative Warriors:

Read up a few posts..you folks continue to live in never-never land.

Deans platform was and is similar to a lot of Dem platforms which is great. However, he had no experience in big matters. A small state where he has little authority is not much of a proving ground for the world stage.
I supported him until the end of Iowa and moved to Kerry who I new of from previous issues. (VNVAW, etc).
He did great with the internet and all other candidates benefited from his experience.
Turning the reins over to a rank amateur is absurd. Even governors experienced in world events struggled when elected.
Dean is in a perfect spot now as all of his considerable talents are being used.

52,
Not all of us like kool-aid but there are several undeserved digs above. We had this discussion earlier. I am not one to follow any group without reason.
Why I am here is a valid question and I really have no answer. Some of you have opinions and logic that really interest me. some of you make no sense at all.
You certainly are not very friendly....
Maybe that is because Dean crashed and burned in the infancy of his campaign and you can't get over it.
Unlike Oler, I don't berate you for your preceived lack of logic. The last I heard, no one here as all the answers.

So since I can't tell you why I am here perhaps it is better to go elsewhere...
Thanks for forcing me to figure it out. I seem to be wasting my time anyway.
adios

mary vb and seashell - I agree. Edwards was SUPER!

Richardson is toast. I like a lot of what Kucinich & Gravel say, but neither has a clue on how to present their positions effectively. Dodd just about put me to sleep, Obama seemed lost much of the time, and when Hill was talking about Columbine I thought she was going to cry - probably thinking about how she was losing ground right that minute and almost certainly will NOT get the nomination. LOL

MSNBC was ABYSMAL - why did they go to side shots on the show of hands questions, so it was almost impossible to see the response (was so glad that Edwards kept his hand down on GWOT)? why did they give Hillary and Obama so much more time than anyone else? why did they have so many "gotcha" questions instead of asking about real questions? what was with all those across-the-board questions that only 1 or 3 people actually had time to answer? and to come on immediately after and crown Obama and Hillary the winners - how utterly unprofessional.

I thought with Richardson's performance and answers, he would have no reason to move on. Along with a couple others.

I agree Biden probably surprised the most in his performance. Then Hillary and Edwards. Biden really didn't have to answer too many questions on specifics.

~~Well, I only saw from a bit before 8, so maybe I missed that part.

I acknowledge that many didn't like when Richardson took time in answering a question to address what he would have done had America been attacted...his answer won the debate(on that question).  Richardson's answer made small Edwards' answer on what he would have done.  Edwards lost ground.

I'd vote for Howard Dean!   The biggest threat to the Republican Kingdom that ever was...they spent well ovr $100 million  and all kinds of dirty tricks (thousands of Republicans called people at home before the vote at 3:00 a.m. in the morning - and said they were DEANIACS.  SO scared they were.  The FIRST man to say "this war is wrong!".   And then there were MILLIONS of us.  They couldn't get us all. : )   Tired of being intimidated by Ashcroft and being UNpatriotic.  Republicans MADE the media go along with the "cut off the applause sound that was deafening when Howard was giving his speech...and INSIST that this was "not a mental good".   SO AFRAID of Howard Dean were they that even months after Howard was out of the running - the only one Bush mentioned in a speech with his 'snear' was --- Howard Dean!   Too bad George, now Howard is laughing at you.   The first one who got mass young people and ALL people to donate on line - the FIRST to say "WE HAVE THE POWER!"...and convince us.  The beginning - of the end of Republican corruption.  NOW the Head of the Democratic Party - and ..uh...we're winning!  Now that we mostly have the Republican owned voting machines being watched.... NO PROBLEMS FOR DEMOCRATS.   We won the election in 2000 and 2004.  And we'll win all the rest of them.

Such a breath of fresh air watching Howard on CNN....you always know he's going to do GREAT...cuts through the bull...and talks 'to us'.

We'll always have your back, Howard. : )

 Other than that, I'm voting for Joe Biden....... : )( : +

1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don't Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

3. Don't Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

__________________________________________________________________________

dog,

In the "infancy"? You must be joking.........he sarted at the back of the pack, a virtual unknown.....caught fire in early 2003 and into that summer.....gained leader status well into 2004 and then with the dirty politics in iowa, a questionable campaign startegy there and in NH, attacks by the foolish media .............it was only after all this that the campaign faltered................

HD was like a breath of fresh air to people like me(and trust me i didnt agree with him on several issues and told him so) but with that guy you gained a sense that he was aware that this country was in deep shit under Bush....................HD, while rough around the edges and at times unpolished to me represneted all that a politician should be, one that truly represented the people.................and after all, thats what its supposed to be about right?

Regrettably,  knew kerry/edwards was doomed from the outset...and sadly resigned myself to the fact that for a people and antion to growand learn......we had to survive 4 more years of bush..........a nightmare scenario, but the real test now remains.....................has this nation learned anything the past 6 years?

Joe Biden – knows the whole workings of our government.   He speaks well and he’s more like….one of us.  I can just see him smiling in the face of Republicans and saying “yeah, but we’re going to do this my way”.  Or with leaders of countries we’re having problems with…(smile) “Well, I don’t think that will be acceptable “  The ONLY one who has the ONLY real solution to the problems in Iraq.  It will take the rest of them, with their limited knowledge of all the facts – two years to come to the same conclusion.  And probably 3,000 more dead U.S. soldiers.  And tens of thousands of poor dead Iraqis.

Three states:  Like Oregon, Washington and Montana, with governors.  I mean, we have ‘blue’ and ‘red’ states.   TAKE the wasted billions and move the Sunni’s in Shi’ite territory (those that want to) to the Sunni State.  Give them  houses, markets, schools.  .  Make SURE the oil profit is evenly divided.  They will all have hope of a secure future and work hard for their 'state'.  Eventually, the ugliness we brought to the country will pass..and they'll start moving across borders again.

The only reason we’re still in Iraq is because Maliki will not sign George’s demand that the Iraq oil – be open to the big Bushy U.S. oil companies.  But Maliki and his whole government are falling apart as we speak.  By the way, the Kurds are – Sunni.

So maybe Barrack as Vice President.   Hilliary is a wonderful person, but – I really think New York and our Senate need her the most.  Dodd would make a great Secretary of Defense.  Richardson –  U.S. Diplomatic Adviser.  Edwards, Voice of the American People to the President.  Kucinich – the Whitehouse BRAIN.  Obviously the smartest and most aware of facts and definitely to replace the injured “Brain”,  Karl Rove.   Gravel,  Public Relations with the Media.  Wasn’t he great!?    Did I miss anybody?

Iraq's future?

The Shia will not move until al Sistani says, or he dies. Then the Sunni will be pushed into the west, the Kurds will be busy to the north.

We will be securing our borders and getting serious about searches of imports. We also will learn from the chinese poisoning of foodstuffs (pet food tho it be). We will find those ways to not consume Arab oil, they can then drink it or sell it to the chinese.

The world is white
It turns by day and then by night
The child is black
The child is white

We'll have a dance of liberty

Did anyone notice Obama's southern  drawl when speaking after the debate?  He's a master manipulator; so is Clinton.

Edwards speaks from the heart and he knows about suffering since the love of his life is very ill and they've lost a child.  These kinds of things permanently change people for the better.  OTOH, putz always had Daddy to bail him out  and was born w/o a heart. Cheney's the devil's spawn.

Gore/Edwards but that combo won't happen.  Too bad.  We need Edward's compassion.

I watched most of the debates in sheer horror.  Brian Williams jumped around all over the place both with the candidates and the subjects of the questions.  To me, it looked like a game of "gotcha."  Every one on stage got hammered at least once - what, to make Williams look soooo moderate-wise and cool?   His ignoring Gravel was very crude.  The candidates themselves staged a bit of a revolt, reverting back to previous questions and debating amongst themselves.  I wish, when there are so many people who want to talk at once there would be fewer areas covered and a moderator of Keith Olberman's stature.

And boy, did I miss Gore.

Oct0817_tinythumb

-

By Reed in V T on Apr 26, 2007 10:52 PM EDT

I wish the format at the debate was such that each candidate had an opening and closing statement, and each addressed the same question. Politics as usual in the great U. S. of A. wi8th this debate.

Sea...yes, I did feel some of the compassion from Edwards, I want a candidate with some gahutas too. Kucinich lived out of a car for a while...getting closer. This debate really sucked other than Gravel IMO and he made his mistakes too...not by what he said but how he said them. This doesn't effect me but it does McDonaldland feeders. While I like what many of the candidate say, there is no plan to implement these ideas into becoming reality. Gravel has a plan, the only plan and it hits hard to the contollers and benefits the workers. CM sucks and I'd move too but can't pry me wife out of this simple little house we call our home, and I go no where without her.

Ya, less  Brian Williams, please.  After all it's about the Democrats.  Same sh1t with the Olympics - face time for the media personalities and little if any of the sport.

Williams was leaning over the podium with his (oh so expensive) spectacles dangling ever so intellectually from his right hand as he intensely formed yet another thoughtful and weighty question.

Give the guy a raise (NOT!) and charge more at the door.
