"Bill Moyers Journal" is back on PBS and it kicks off tonight with a program entitled "Buying the War,"  The program will explore how the major media outlets let us down in the run-up to the war.  This is somewhat well-trodden ground, but I'm sure under Moyers' authorship the program will provide some valuable insights.

The program is on from 9:00 to 10:30 on 4/25 on KCET. "Bill Moyers Journal" will start airing regularly on PBS on Friday evenings after tonights premiere.

Dems vote subpoenas in widening probes By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer

...Congress' effort isn't driven solely by Democrats. Republicans have barely restrained their disdain for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' accounting of the firings, including his claims of a faulty memory.

Sen. Arlen Specter (news, bio, voting record), ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee, co-signed a letter with Leahy Wednesday urging Gonzales to freshen his memory and provide answers within a week.

------

So many questions remain about the perception that politics motivated the dismissals of these 8 US attorneys.

I love Bill Moyers' work. I'm interested to see what he can add to this topic. But regardless of who was wrong and who misled in the past, I think the focus should now be on how to best pull out of Iraq without bringing turmoil. If you've ever read Moyers' book "The Secret Government: the Constitution in Crisis" then the realities of going to war are quite unforgivable.

War is not an answer to the world's problems. If our leaders want to make a difference, I would like to see them stop talking about who is right or wrong and do something about it. Communicate with foreign leaders, take strong positions and follow through and most of all take on legislation that would really change the world, such as HR 1302, the Global Poverty Act. There is no denying that poverty is at the root of almost all conflict in the world today and it is foolish to ignore it. According to the Borgen Project, just $19 billion annually can end starvation, yet our leaders have voted to spend over $340 billion in Iraq now without any success. Our leaders need to commit to supporting the Millennium Development Goals if they truly want to bring peace to the world.
