4 Down!

A message from Charles Chamberlain: This morning WI Democrats submitted 139% of the signatures needed to demand a Recall Election of WI Republican Senator Sheila Harsdorf. And just yesterday, 162% of the signatures needed were delivered to recall Republican Luther Olsen. That's 4 down -- only 2 more top targets left to go. Our recall ad is backing up the boots on the ground -- communicating the real impact of Scott Walker's political attack on workers and their families while keeping the fight fresh in voters' minds. These families are counting on us to provide them support on the air while they do the hard work of gathering signatures on the ground. Can you contribute $15 right now to keep the ad on the air another week? Watch the ad and contribute now to keep it on the air! This is a big week for momentum. We're closer than ever to flipping the WI Senate and stopping Governor Walker's anti-families agenda. MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz, Lawrence O'Donnell, and Cenk Uygur have all praised this ad -- which we made with our friends at Progressive Change Campaign Committee -- and local activists in Wisconsin have asked us to keep it on TV. With 2 more top targets left, we can't hold anything back right now. Please contribute to keep Republicans on defense during this critical week! We're making a difference -- and we won't stop fighting until we win. Thank you for everything you do to make it happen. -Charles Charles Chamberlain, Political Director Democracy for America

Earth Day Weekend

A note from Gregg Ross for those of you who are signed up to collect petitions this weekend. Last night I had the chance to watch Gasland, along with hundreds of DFA members across the country. The movie reminded me in vivid detail of the consequences to Dick Cheneys loophole that allows the oil and gas companies to do whatever they want in their pursuit of profit. For those who are suffering debilitating health problems from the effects of fracking, the consequences are real. For those whose communities are without safe drinking water, the consequences are real. And for those like Josh Fox, the director of Gasland, who are simply wondering if their hometown will be completely destroyed by fracking, the consequences are real. So let's get real, too - about passing the FRAC Act in Congress. Right now we're building up to collect tens of thousands of signatures this Earth Day weekend, but before the weekend begins it's important to know where we stand and who will be a part of the effort. Take 30 seconds right now to let me know how many signatures you've collected so far - and wheteher you will be gathering signatures this weekend at Earth Day events. Over a week ago, we set an ambitious goal to collect 25,000 signatures offline to pass the FRAC Act. Since then, hundreds of volunteers just like you have been gathering thousands of signatures. Its been inspiring to work with you all and weve done a tremendous job so far. Now lets go one more step and make sure that this Earth Day weekend, when all eyes will be on environmental issues, we can prove to Congress that we simply wont tolerate Dick Cheney and his oil industry cronies poisoning our drinking water any longer. To make this weekend a success we need to know just how many signatures we are short of our goal and how many volunteers we need to reach that goal. Will you let me know how many signatures you've collected so far and how many you anticipate collecting this weekend? Click here to let me know. As Josh Fox said last night, "People are under siege by an industry that seeks to take over as much territory as possible." Those people are relying on you and me. I intend to not let them down. I hope you'll be there with me. Lets win. -Gregg Gregg Ross, Political Campaign Manager Democracy for America

Fracking House Party Release

At 200 House Parties on Sunday Night More Than 2,500 DFA Members Commit to Gather 100,000 Signatures on a Petition by Earth Day to Pass the FRAC Act After Call with Gasland Documentary Director, Josh Fox *******Watch the trailer for Gasland Here: http://stopfrackingnow.com/gasland******* Burlington, VT On Sunday evening thousands of DFA members gathered to watch the academy award nominated documentary, Gasland and then committed to gather 100,000 petition signatures by Earth Day to pass the FRAC Act in Congress. Director of the film, Gasland, Josh Fox addressed DFA members on Sunday night via conference call. I hope we can all join in the mission to end the devastation of fracking. I am thrilled to see that thousands of DFA members are getting involved at the ground level today to do something about this extremely destructive and unregulated drilling in our states, Fox said. It is critical that Congress pass the FRAC Act to reign in this dangerous practice and DFA members in all 50 states will be making sure that they do just that, Chair of DFA, Jim Dean, added. Vice President Dick Cheney exempted fracking from the Safe Water Drinking Act in the 2005 Energy Bill and since then the natural gas industry unleashed a massive 34-state drilling campaign. Now, six years later, the facts are stacking up how fracking is poisoning drinking water and contributing to climate change. In response, Representatives Diana DeGette, Jared Polis, and Maurice Hinchey have introduced the Fracturing Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals Act in the U.S. House. Senators Bob Casey and Chuck Schumer have introduced the companion bill in the U.S. Senate. These Members of Congress are standing up to close the loophole and hold the oil and gas production industry to the same standards as any other industry to ensure the safe protection of America's drinking water. Democracy for America is building a coalition of grassroots activists and environmental organizations to work together with leaders in Congress to pass the FRAC Act this year. Budget Statement April 14, 2011

DFA Praises President Obama for Calling for End to Tax-dodges for Corporate Millionaires and Calls on the President to Stop the Bleeding of Key Programs that Support the Middle Class Burlington, VT In anticipation of the Presidents speech today on the budget and the deficit, Democracy for America Chair, Jim Dean praises the Presidents intention to call to end the free ride for Americas wealthiest individuals. At the same time DFA strongly opposes putting on the table any more cuts to critical programs that support the fragile middle class such as Medicare and Medicaid. It time that shared sacrifice included everyone in this budget discussion such as CEOs, millionaires, and those who have gained the most from our nations economy. Thats why we hail the Presidents effort to keep his campaign promise and end the Bush Tax dodge, said, Jim Dean, Chair of DFA. I am glad to see that we are having an adult discussion about solving our deficit by raising revenue from those who got the most government support during the economic crisis. However, Dean added, I am concerned by discussions about making even deeper cuts to critical programs that support the fragile middle class such as Medicare and Medicaid. The most vulnerable have already experienced the biggest cutbacks in the budget not to mention the billions more in cuts to come. Its long past time to ask those who caused this economic crisis to start pitching in. DFA hopes to see the President work with Democratic leaders in Congress who have been putting themselves on the line every day to stand up for these vital Democratic principles. The Republican proposals that have been put forward are simply not credible and punishing to the middle class that drives our economy. With control of one house of Congress and the White House, its time to get serious about a budget that works for people and ends the deficit. Right now in Wisconsin

A message from Charles Chamberlain: We've been busy in Wisconsin and we just finished our brand new RECALL TV ad. It's powerful. We need your help again right now to make an impact. Take a look and please contribute $5 to keep it on the air. Here's what's happening: For the last two weeks, over 2,600 Wisconsin DFA volunteers have been helping gather signatures to put Recall campaigns on the ballot. They're over halfway done. MSNBC's Rachel Maddow called our first TV ad with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee "the most pointed, stand-with-the-people-who-work-for-a-living ad that we have seen for a very long time." We've saturated the airwaves with it on broadcast and cable, morning, day and night. We've been running radio ads, robocalls, volunteer actions. All of it targeted at defeating the eight Republican Senators eligible for recall in their districts. We only need to defeat three Republicans to flip the Senate and stop Scott Walker's attack on middle class families. Please contribute now to keep the NEW Recall Ad on the air. We're not taking any momentum for granted. We won't stop until we win either. In fact, both Democracy for America and our partners at the Progressive Change Campaign Committee have opened local Wisconsin recall committees to make sure we can maximize the flexibility and effectiveness of our campaign, Recent polling looks very bad for Scott Walker and the Republicans, but we can count on Karl Rove and the Koch brothers to try to change it up and put Democrats on defense. It's up to us not let that happen. Thank you for taking action today. -Charles Charles Chamberlain, Political Director Democracy for America All contributions are subject to the limitations and prohibitions of federal election law. An individual may contribute a maximum of $5000 per calendar year.
