Call Wisconsin Voters (Updated: 5 Weeks Left)

UPDATE: There are more calling shifts to sign up for from home. Sign up here. For more information on the Call Out the Vote campaign for Wisconsin, keep reading: When Scott Walker launched his attack on working families in February, something incredible happened -- people from all over Wisconsin descended on Madison to stand up for their communities. Inspired by their energy, I watched what was happening in Wisconsin and wished I could be there. Did you feel the same way? Now with several recall elections later this summer, we have the opportunity to show Walker and the Wisconsin Republicans what happens when they attack working families -- we fight back and win. Democracy for America and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee are launching our Call Out the Vote program this Thursday so that progressives all over the country can talk to Wisconsin voters about the importance of these elections. Will you join me in making calls from your home for two hours this Thursday? Yes, I can call this Thursday! Yes, I can call this Sunday! I can't make calls this week, but I can chip in $5 to recall the WI Republicans. Yesterday, news broke that one of the Republicans challenging a Democratic incumbent failed to collect enough valid signatures to get on the ballot. We have the momentum, but we need to make sure voters know about the election. Wisconsin was the first of many states to take up anti-worker legislation, but it's not the only one. That's why it's vital we win right now. Because once we stop them in Wisconsin, we'll stop them in Ohio, Michigan, and across the nation. If we turn out the vote in these recall elections, we will win -- can you help by signing up for a two hour phone shift? Yes, I can call this Thursday! Yes, I can call this Sunday! I can't make calls this week, but I can chip in $5 to recall the WI Republicans. Together, as a united progressive community, we will defend our country and stop the Republican attacks on working families. Thanks for everything you do.

Lets End the War in Afghanistan Now

The truth is Ive been feeling this way for a while. Democracy for America is based in Burlington, Vermont, and I have to say that you cant turn the corner here without hearing a story about a National Guardsman who came home injured, rattled by extreme PTSD, without a job, or worst of all, didnt come home at all. Most of these men and women have been on several tours, away from their families, and they come home different people. We appreciate their tremendous sacrifice and we think its our patriotic duty to say when enough is enough. The mastermind of the terrorist attacks who started this war was eliminated. We have spent millions in treasure and untold amounts in the sacrifice of our brave troops. The Arab world is embracing democracy in ways that we never imagined. A majority of Americans are all in agreement that it is time to bring the troops home. Its over. It is time to come home and focus on what we need to do to support our troops here. They are coming home to hard times. Veterans have a higher unemployment rate than the rest of America and thats embarrassing. Our troops are also suffering with higher rates and more extreme forms of PTSD than ever before. The suicide rate is simply unacceptable. Lets get behind them with more than a yellow ribbon. Lets bring them home and treat them like the heroes they are. Thats why DFA supports the The Safe and Responsible Redeployment of United States Combat Forces from Afghanistan Act of 2011 which does the following: 1) States that is U.S. policy to begin the phased redeployment of U.S. combat forces from Afghanistan by July 1, 2011. 2) Requires the President's administration submit a plan to Congress, by July 31, 2011, for the phased redeployment of U.S. combat forces from Afghanistan 3) Requires the plan include a date certain for completion of redeployment. Senators Gillibrand, Brown, Boxer and Durbin are the original co-sponsors of this bill and have been actively whipping up support. More than 100,000 DFA members have signed on as citizen co-sponsors. The President has promised to wrap this up soon and now we need a real plan to make it happen. Sign on as a citizen co-sponsor and call your Senator and ask them to co-sponsor the bill. Ending the war and bringing our troops home is the only responsible thing to do. Lets end it now.

Jim Dean Comments on the Presidents Speech in Afghanistan

Its our patriotic duty to say when enough is enough Democracy For America Chair Jim Dean Comments on the Presidents Speech in Afghanistan Jim Dean, Democracy for America Chair: Were glad to see that President Obama is responding to the majority of Americans who are calling to bring our troops home from Afghanistan. His plan to bring home 30,000 soldiers is certainly a step in the right direction. However, our troops and the American people need more than a step, they need a giant leap forward. Most of the service men and women in Afghanistan have been on several tours away from their families. We appreciate their tremendous sacrifice and we think its our patriotic duty to say when enough is enough. Rachel Maddow

Our ad exposing Republicans for their vote to end Medicare isn't just making waves with scared Republican leaders and Rep. Charlie Bass. MSNBC's Rachel Maddow called the National Republican Campaign Committee's failure to get the TV ad pulled from the air "The Full Belly Flop!" She pretty much sums it up with some simple advice for the NRCC: "Here's the thing: Just because you don't like how your position sounds when it is described out loud does not mean you get to prevent people from describing it." Check out the full clip of MSNBC's Rachel Maddow covering the controversy right now. We have now raised more than $100,000 to keep this ad on the air. Contribute right now and keep the momentum going.
