Its our patriotic duty to say when enough is enough Democracy For America Chair Jim Dean Comments on the Presidents Speech in Afghanistan Jim Dean, Democracy for America Chair: Were glad to see that President Obama is responding to the majority of Americans who are calling to bring our troops home from Afghanistan. His plan to bring home 30,000 soldiers is certainly a step in the right direction. However, our troops and the American people need more than a step, they need a giant leap forward. Most of the service men and women in Afghanistan have been on several tours away from their families. We appreciate their tremendous sacrifice and we think its our patriotic duty to say when enough is enough. Thats why DFA members support the The Safe and Responsible Redeployment of United States Combat Forces from Afghanistan Act of 2011 which does the following: 1) States that is U.S. policy to begin the phased redeployment of U.S. combat forces from Afghanistan by July 1, 2011. 2) Requires the President's administration submit a plan to Congress, by July 31, 2011, for the phased redeployment of U.S. combat forces from Afghanistan 3) Requires the plan include a date certain for completion of redeployment. Senators Gillibrand, Brown, Boxer and Durbin are the original co-sponsors of this bill and have been actively whipping up support. More than 100,000 DFA members have signed on as citizen co-sponsors. The President has promised to wrap this up soon and now we need a real plan to make it happen.
